Just wondering, i have a "first generation" system on 7.0.1 and wanted to know
if there is any problematic/risk right now to hack your switch.
Im aware, that it isnt as safe as it was on the 3ds, but the advantages seem just
too practical.

Happy for some educated information. :)

Well, for starts the ban is a big problem if you want to play online.
Retroarch runs pretty decently, but with slowdowns on more advanced consoles (PSX, N64, NDS), and with filters it lags.
Aside from that, for now I don't think there isn't any problem.

I understand

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

well thanks for the info

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Ill see next year, how far the homebrew scene has come.
Seems a bit too risky for me right now for a 300 euro
piece of tech.

Thanks anyways :switch:

While you cannot unban your Switch, you can still play online and use CFW if you wish. You would have to make a NAND back up BEFORE you install any CFW. Then when ever you want to go online you can install the clean NAND and do as you please. Just a heads up it is a very length process, as you would have to dump and reinstall a clean NAND every time. It's much more efficient to buy a second Switch. You can get just the tablet pretty cheap on eBay.

The main risk is getting banned if you try to use online, if you want to be completely safe from getting banned, you either have to go the NAND backup route, restoring a clean NAND backup before any time you want to play online (in your legit owned games), but that's a huge pain in the ass. The other option is SX OS emuNAND, you can keep your sysNAND updated & clean for online use, and keep your emuNAND completely offline. If you use a separate SD card for emuNAND/CFW use, then there should be no way for Nintendo to ever tell that your console is hacked.

Isn't nsp installation kind of a mess on 7.0.1 also? I'm sticking on 6.2.0 until 7.0.1 becomes as easy as 6.2.0.

If you are playing online do yourself a favor and just get a second Switch, transfer everything to the new Switch and then hack your old Switch.
Or you could go the NAND-Backup / NAND-Restore route. Delete all Internet Settings, the dump your clean NAND. Proceed to use CFW and do whatever you want with it. Once you are finished and want to play a legitimate Game online do a NAND-Backup of your CFW NAND and restore your clean NAND. Whenever you want to Switch between CFW / OFW just do a NAND-Dump / NAND-Restore.
The third option would be to go with SX OS and use their Emunand feature, although that should be implemented soon in your free CFW of choice if I go by some twitter tweets.

If you don't care about Online at all just go full CFW. The tools are already very mature, you can do fantastic stuff that would not be possible otherwise and on the Switch CFW has much more uses than playing backups (I am looking at you WiiU...).

I recently updated to 7.0.0 and it was a hassle. If I could go back, I would stick with 6.2.0. Now that I have it working well, I won't bother downgrading, but thought I'd say this for anyone else who is looking at updating.

Meh, I mean you can play pirated games offline. If you're not doing that, you can run some homebrew apps. Otherwise you're risking a ban from their online services which don't really offer much to begin with. Unlike PS4/Xbone, the online isn't really that integrated with the console. No achievements, and "friend codes" still for online.

Honestly feel I wasted 20 bucks on that one.

I was under the impression XCI installs were legit, but n1dus changes it to an insecure format to install it on the console. Without that, I'm at a loss what I'm going to use the hack for. I had it for convenience so I didn't have to find my game carts.
