Does the powerA WIRED controller GameCube style have any kind of rumble? And can I use it with pc?

As far as I know the wired don't have rumble, you can connect the controller to the PC but no idea will be fully compatible

I dunno if this belongs here or deserves its own thread, but I figured I'd start here to avoid more clutter. I'm trying to update Atmosphere on my 5.1.0 Switch (originally 4.-something I think but "updated" with ChoiDujourNX), after sitting on the original version I installed when I first got into cfw, and I'm having all kinds of problems. I actually tried updating a couple months ago and got an error screen when booting, assumed it just wasn't stable yet, and reverted to my old version, but now I'm having more issues, so I'm guessing the problem is actually me.

Today I downloaded the newest version of Atmosphere off github, let the contents of the zip overwrite what was on my SD, and booted up. It sorta-kinda worked, but still seemed unstable - I got an error trying to launch from Hekate the first time (worked when I tried again though). But then when I got into Atmosphere I tried launching CFW Settings from the HB menu, and it immediately crashed and had to be rebooted (and would repeatedly crash every time I tried after).

So then I figured I'd just download the basic package from sdsetup and put THAT on my SD, assuming that something else needed to be updated to work with Atmosphere. That just gave me a black screen shortly after the initial Nintendo logo popped up, had to hold power for 12 seconds and get back into autorcm. Eventually I tried booting fusee-primary.bin from the payload menu instead of using the "Launch CFW" option in Hekate like I'd always done, and that at least got me back into Atmosphere, but now the HB menu only displays "reboot to payload," no tinfoil or ChoiDujour or anything anymore, and my games all give me a "the software was closed because an error occurred" message immediately upon trying to load them. My instinct was maybe all the swapping out had corrupted my SD, but it didn't, Windows error-checking says it's fine and it runs flawlessly, is formatted for fat32, etc. Do older versions of Atmosphere require a different directory structure on the SD? So now the new version has no idea where things are? I'm running outta ideas, other than just wiping the card completely and starting fresh, which I guess is always an option but ughhhhhhhhhh I'd love to not have to do that.

Have you tried ReiNX?

Thanks for the reply, I haven't, if it's less of a pain I might give it a shot but I was hoping I'd be able to figure out what's causing the issue with Atmosphere in the first place instead of just completely starting over with new cfw.
Did you see any error codes when the crash happened?

Welp after tearing my hair out I finally stumbled across this thread and the sig patches did the trick (as for the issue with HBmenu apps not showing up... turns out I'm a dumbass and somehow lost track of them during all the file swapping. Oops.) Thanks for the replies!

You need homebrew. To run homebrew applications you need CFW (at least it‘s the common way). If you go online with mods you will get banned sooner or later.
Mmh, is there a different way to get homebrew on the switch without cfw? An easier and a safe to get homebrew?

Or we really need cfw? With past nintendo consoles you didn't cfw if I remember right

I mean there is pegaswitch if you want to try that (requires 6.0 and below) but you can't get any game that way *shrug*

I'm about to be ready and mod my Switch.

I'm on FW 4.0.1 it's still clean, and never connected to the internet.

What are the things I can do to backup and dump keys and stuff?

Hekate to backup my sysNAND, boot 0,1, prodinfo?

Lockpick to dump some keys.

Is there anything else I can do or missed, I want to backup and dump as much as I can while on this untouched Switch before I get started. Just in case.

Also, one more question about the eMMC chips.

I remember there being a actual eMMC Chip ID, I can't find it back here:

http://pascoe.pw/2018/09/switchnand.html

But to my memory, you could also back this up and write this to the new eMMC chip, if you didn't actually HAVE to do this to begin with..

I might be blind and be missing that part in the article I linked, but yes, I'd like to have a go at swapping my eMMC module board out and have physical dual NAND that way. :)

Biskeys are the other one you want to backup, there are plenty of guides around

So this mean I can't get any new games with that?
With only homebrew you don't have the permissions (sigpatches) required to run games, no. Same as 3DS.

Pretty much what nfates said, if you want free games then you need full on cfw. getting into rcm is safe with a jig then you just enable autorcm which is also safe. The only additional thing you need to do is block updates so your cfw doesn't break.

IF you go full cfw and make a full nand + boot0/1 + biskeys backup you can recover from pretty much anything outside of a hardware brick or formatting the actual switch

Mmh, what I want to do is put custom music in smash and textures like the dark bowser one, just this, I don't really care about free games, and I just checked, and I'm on FW 7.0.1

USB Help Please

So I have FW4.0.1 with Kosmos 11.11 running on a FAT32 128GB SD card and am having a real issue getting any type of NSP install to work over USB (Goldleaf v0.5/Goldtree v0.4, v0.3, 0.2/tinfoil various versions/AluminiumFoil). I get various errors i.e. Invalid NCA magic or unknown or undocumented error. I've verified that smaller (less then 4GB) NSPs will install fine through Goldleaf if transferred to the SD card first, but even the same NSP that works on the SD card installs will not work on the USB install. Clearly, I must be missing something.

  • A1) How (cause of FAT32 size limits) can I install anything over 4GB? (my Switch would not read my SD at all when formatted in exFAT which is why I went with FAT32)

FW Change

Also, I was thinking about bumping up my firmware to something like 6.0.1 or whatever is the "safest" possible route and best stable FW with future option to downgrade if needed.

  • B1) Is the "Updating/Downgrading Manually" guide at guide.sdsetup dot com the way I should go?
  • B2) If so, Do I need to have a fresh SD and Switch first or can I leave everything thats already installed on both and just add the files needed for the update/grade?
  • B3) And could someone clarify the difference between update/and upgrade? That sites guide labels both?
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

USB install works regardless of file format. The technical reason behind this is that the file is split during the installation.

USB installs seem to not work as well on firmwares below 5.0 but Fluffy has a build that supposedly fixes those issues. Try that before updating your firmware.

If for reason you still cannot get USB install to work even after trying Fluffy, then you should update using the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX. I guess you could use the guide but I don't see any reason to have a guide for a homebrew application especially when the creator's thread explains everything you need to know anyways. Either way, you don't necessarily need a fresh SD to do it. In fact, since you need CFW to even use ChoiDujourNX, it would be easier to use your current SD card unless you are running out of space on it. And I don't know of any difference between updating and upgrading outside of some people may be more familiar with one term over another but as far as I know, they are referring to the same thing.

My brother says he tried to update smash while at school using the match version option and it crashed. Since then it will not load any cfw giving magic 2 error or something similar or saying the battery is dead even though it has 80% in hekate.
I checked the fuses and they are still not burnt, I tried updating all the cfw files and still got same errors. I'm in the process of formatting the sd card since it corrupted and will check back but was wondering if i have any other options before restoring nand?
Also does restoring nand mean i lose saves?
Thanks

UPDATE:
Finished formatting and putting fresh atmosphere files on the sd card and it load the boot logo with atmosphere and shows the battery and then shuts off. Restore nand?

Yes restoring nand means loosing saves, unless you want to use hacdiskmount to copy the saves off before since it appears you can't boot cfw

Yes try a nand + boot restore

After restoring nand do I need to restart the autorcm, backup, and everything? I haven't really changed anything other then updating files since I first modded the switch
