Hi folks,

Been away for a while and I have only updated the console (which is booted into sx os) once I can't seem to remember how to go about it.
I downloaded NX-7.0.1.zip firmware.

I do not recall if I need to unzip it (this creates a bunch of nca files) or if I need to put the zip file as is somewhere on the usd card.
As for installed homebrews, I only have Tinfoil, ChoiduJour & sxinstaller_v1.5 on the usd card.

Thanks.

BTW, any particular attention I should have when updating to 7.0.1 (again I am using SXOS_v2.5.3 boot.dat) ?

AS an SXOS you want to upgrade no further than 6.2, 7.0.x will break sxos for you without 6.2 emunand. The program you need is choidujourNX

Thanks. I do not actually have emunand setup. I just boot using power + volume up into the sx os menu and boot from there.
So should I go and create an emunand? I suppose it will wipe the usd which holds xci game files and already installed nsps, will it ?
Should I do this on all 3 usd cards that the kids use for their games?

Any chance of not losing their saved games and games?
Thanks.

When you create an emunand it will become an exact copy of your nand on the sd card. If jou want to update your sysnand to play online you could best create a working emunand first.
Derive and save all keys from your 6.x system with cfw and backup all the stuff on your sd to a safe place.
Set a custom wallpaper to emunand to easily see the difference.
If your done with the previous stuff you van update your sysnand through Choi or bigN if you don't care for fuses.

I recently updated to 7.0.1 sysNAND and I have EmuNAND.
I can boot into SX OS via payload after booting in EmuNAND.
EmuNAND itself was on 6.2.0 (which is supported). So yea if you had EmuNAND and wanted to update sysNAND to 7.0.1 sure be my guest.
However, I also discovered that your joycons will not work wirelessly for some reason after updating to 7.0.1 on SysNAND despite the fact im using EmuNAND via SD card.

Dumbproof mode activated...

1. Emunand will be created on the 'external' usd card, right?

2. If I understand what you are saying, it will make an exact copy of sysnand (I suppose sysnand is the 'internal' memory of the console, right? If so, will it wipe the external usd card or not (I would need to backup its content as it holds the boot files for sx os and the homebrews, saves...)?

3. To my knowledge, all the games and their updates that my kids play were installed to the external usd card (they have 3 of them), so if setting up emunand wipes the external usd card it will delete all of my kids saved games and actual nsp files that were installed, correct?

4. (Last one for now) Whatever needs to be done should be done on all 3 external usd cards that they use to store the games, correct?

Thanks.

1. Right
2. If you choose to use a hidden partition it will wipe the sd card. No hidden partition, no wipe. Emunand takes up 32gb storage which need to be available on your sd card.
In my opinion a hidden partition makes things overcomplicated. I use sysnand with sd #1 for online stuff and emunand with sd #2 for offline stuff, no need for hidden things.
3. Spend a few bucks for an extra (4th :creep:) sd card. savegames reside on your (sys/emu)nand not on your sd. Game updates will be lost if you use a hidden partition.
4. I use 1 200gb card for emunand and a 64gb card for sysnand. I can't give you a best option for your situation.

I would not update through Choi. As long as I have a working emunand, let them efuses burn.

I use SD EmuNAND.
I own only 1 SD card and use it for both.
EmuNAND in vitually takes up 5-10 gb. Ofcourse you need 32gb free space for it. But check EmuNAND memory when you access it. Its gonna take like 7-8gb in real.

So, I have copied all the content from usd1 (the one that goes in the back of the console - the external usd so to say )to my PC. I am now running SX OS menu to create an emunand on usd1 (I had to remove some games to make some room).

1. Originally the console was running 4.x (I believe) that I updated to 6.2 (It had never been connected to the Internet). Can I roll back to the original firmware (I have a backup of the original Nand)?
2. I once tried to connect it to the Internet (in CWF mode) but it could not, is this normal? (I have never tried to connect it to the internet wiith the original FW (not sure this is still available since I updated the console to 6.2)
3. Once emuand is setup, do I need to repeat the process for the other 2 usd cards that my kids are using?
4. Once emunand is setup, should I update it via Choidujour by copying the NX-7.0.1 zip file or uncompressed foilder on the usd somewhere?
5. What are fuses and keys and where should I get them or what should I do with them?
6. (Final) Once emunand is setup, can the kids actually use sysnand to play online or is this going to get them banned or can they at least play the carts we have or play with the other 'official' Switch (local multiplayer) that they have?

Lots of questions I knows.
Thanks.

1. If you update through Choi you can rollback if you keep the efuses from burning. If your fuses are burnt you can't rollback without semi brick.
2. You should be able to use online service on your sysnand/OFW. Be sure you have no internet configured when using OFW of making emunand. Using online with hacks has a high chance to get banned.
3. I would think just one emunand would be enough. Or do your kids all have a separate switch?
4. Emunand won't work on 7.x for now. Updating emunand to 7.x would break it. If you want to use online you should update your sysnand/OFW to 7.x not your emunand.
5. Efuses are a protection mechanism to prevent downgrading. If your OFW version does not match the number of burnt efuses it won't boot. Emunand has a workaround for this. U can use lockpick to get your keys (be sure you don't get online in cfw when retrieving the keys) and then use a custom background in emunand to clearly see the difference between emunand and sysnand.
6. Yes. Use emunand for questionable stuff and do not enable your network there. Use sysnand for online gaming.

I think you can play local multiplayer on emunand if you block network traffic to Nintendo. 90dns, sxos stealth or custom DNS sevice will work but I haven't tried this. Chances to make a mistake rise if you do this.

I figured this would raise more questions:
1. I originally used Choidujour to update (not sure I updated Sysnand or CFW which I was using without an emunand partition). Does it make any sense?
2. How do I keep the efuses from burning and how do I know if they were burnt?
3. There are 2 NSW consoles at home (one is origianl with online the other one is the one we use with SX OS (directly booting into CFW before today). My kids use 3 usd cards for games (one I just created emunand onto and 2 others that they boot using the dongle into CFW. Now that emunand is setup you are saying I should not update to 7.0.1?
4. Should I roll back to before updating to 6.2 ?
5. If I update Sysnand to 7.0.1 (How can I even do this), won't it break SX OS ?
6. I downloaded a package (zip file) called lockpick master, now what? What do I do with this to export the keys? Is this an app to place on the usd card? Should I boot into Sysnand or emunand to retrieve the keys?

Again thanks.

Edit: How do I setup a customwallpaper? I tried themes and changed to black but I tried booting into sysnand and it was black as well.

I am thinking of using emunand now, since support for for 7.0+ is never going to happen.

But if SXOS released a new version that supports 7.0, can I remove the emunand?

Hello,

Sorry if this has been more or less explained before but I would like to be 100% sure:

- Can SX emunand be updated to 7.X if sysnand is maintained to 6.X ?

- When TX say they don't support 7.X yet, does it just mean they don't support it on sysnand?

Thanks!

guys can you still update your games (on OFW) when you are on 6.x ?

edit: and also it has been quite a long time now since 7.x has been out no? 2 months? and still not cracked, so i guess the upcoming 7.x games wont work on 6.x cfws right?
