It was really cool seeing how we were able to, slowly but surely, crack the 3DS completely open with CFW and emuNAND. So I was wonder at what point will the Switch reach that level of hacking, or if it's even possible.

I'm mainly referring to playing online without constantly backing up and restoring, easily booting into CFW via button combo, and being able to make bans much more minimal.
The Switch hacking scene has advanced pretty fast for being only 2 years, but there are many people out there, including me, who have installed CFW but don't even want to touch it due to high level of ban talk going around.

So I wanna know your thought.

the main difference between now and the 3DS days is that back then nintendo was ay less able to detect hack and punish us, its not that the 3DS scene was "way more advanced" its more than the risks of ban were close to non existant from the start

i think that maybe one day they will find a way to totally 100% fool telemetry and direct cfw detection so that we dont run any risk to be banned just by having cfw or using homebrew, even if it seem to be a lot of work and if it is basically a lost dream
but i dont think that we will be ever able to play online with "personal backups"

Just don’t play online with a hacked switch. In the end there will be sooner or later a ban from Nintendo.
I play with Splatoon a lot and I already hacked my Switch. I believe I'm safe because I restored my NAND, but now there's no point of going on CFW if I'd have to go through the hassle of restoring every time I play online or with friends

Yeah I got your point, that’s really annoying. For now the only options are two switches or EmuNAND.

Yeah I don't think 100% safe from ban will ever be a thing, especially since Nintendo can basically moniter every move we do.

Hopefully a miracle like LumaSwitch will happen in a few years.

Yeah thats why you use EmuNAND. I got sick of 1-hr nand restore/backups every time I wanted to switch from hacked/clean, imo just that is worth the price of SXOS.

What about a cartridge based solution which the Switch detects as a legitimate game?

Agreed, for those that care about online there is no good alternative to SX OS at the moment. EmuNAND should hopefully be out for open source CFW soon enough though.

That would still require dumps of your own games since whenever you go online with a "game" Nintendo checks individual stuff like the header and you'll be banend.
I meant for homebrew like save editors.

Never possible, since the protection is too strong. Hedgeberg talked about this:

Any sort of hacking or tampering with the switch will lead to a ban regardless of any kind of "safety" features CFW have, Nintendo aren't playing this generation, if you want online gaming with CFW safely you absolutely need to have 2 switches, one for hacking and one for legit online gaming simple as that, or you could just have one and compromise one for the other, the online gaming features of the switch don't really have any appeal to me, considering all big titles on the switch will be single player heavy from here on out.

Still no one of the SX OS emuNAND users reported getting banned yet (if they didn't do hacky stuff on their sysNAND).

I mean technically that's what SX does to allow XCI mounting is they hijack the gamecard slot, use layered FS and some nintendo code to allow the xcis to be mounted
sigpatches though, you can't just run arbitrary code through the gamecard slot
