Question, does the Wii U version not support .ogg format? With Genesis Plus Gx core music won't play in iso+ogg or bin+ogg, but will play on PC and also non retroarch Genesis Plus GX on Wii

I added PSX core and it messed up my retroarch i had to delete PSX core and all retroarch configures and right now im narrowing down smaller files save me scanning time for FBA and MAME like putting it in Konami, Irem, Neo Geo you know what to separate each brand arcade. finding the right roms without duplicate it. I'm aware that Wii U doesn't have much ram to scroll it fast if you have long 10 GB of arcade roms screw it that is the reason I'm doing it.

The retroarch program doesn't show up in the homebrew browser? what am I donig wrong?

I've sorted this. I installed it as a channel instead, and CBHC'ed for ease of loading.

The problem I have now is scanning the directories and Retroarch not creating any playlists or folder organisation of any kind .

I've got a history and that's all

The below playlist entry works, but that is only after i manually change the / in the directory listings.

All the playlist editors i've used so far fill the code up with sd:\\ instead of sd:/ which doesn't work when I load the playlist in RetroArch.

working

Code:
{
  "version": "1.0",
  "items": [
    {
      "path": "sd:/retroarch/roms/Sega - Mega Drive - Genesis/Alien 3 (USA, Europe) (Rev A).zip#Alien 3 (USA, Europe) (Rev A).md",
      "label": "Alien 3 (USA, Europe) (Rev A).zip#Alien 3 (USA, Europe) (Rev A)",
      "core_path": "sd:/retroarch/cores/genesis_plus_gx_libretro.rpx",
      "core_name": "Sega - MS/GG/MD/CD (Genesis Plus GX)",
      "crc32": "-1|crc",
      "db_name": "Sega - Mega Drive - Genesis.lpl"

not working

Code:
sd:\retroarch\roms\Sega - Mega Drive - Genesis\Alien 3 (USA, Europe) (Rev A).zip#Alien 3 (USA, Europe) (Rev A).md
Alien 3 (USA, Europe) (Rev A).zip#Alien 3 (USA, Europe) (Rev A)
DETECT
DETECT
-1|crc
Sega - Mega Drive - Genesis.lpl

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? even this gives the wrong output
All my megadrive roms have been no introed.

I've got the ROM location down. I just can't get the core selected easily now!

If I reset the core association in a playlist i can only scroll down as far as the NEC PC-98 cores, so I'm unable to choose the Genesis core!!

I downloaded it again from another site, tried to run the .cue but gave the same error

A black screen with some things written in white, I tried loading the core and then loading the game, but it did not work.

.ccd file are Clone CD configuration files that usually come with an .img file but they are not supported by the emulator (the list of supported format can be found here: https://docs.libretro.com/library/genesis_plus_gx/)

.cue files are just text files that tell the emulator which files to use : open it in a text editor and look at it, it should point to that huge 500 MB file (which is probably an .img file)

.img file should be identical to .bin file for Sega CD but you never know, you might need to convert your ccd+img or redownload the game in a supported format (cue/bin or chd)

I've ended up using the PC version as as surrogate for the rdb database, which has allowed me to add single files to the console playlists. I can now curate playlists from within the Retroarch program.
It's like having the few games I had in the 90's on the shelf in my bedroom :grog:

Now to grab those thumbnails using the PC as a surrogate file retriever.

(i'm loving all this tinkering, it'd be easy on the PC but I find learning the retroarch file hierarchy off by heart and the use of sd:/ and forward slashes and backward slashes to be a joy)

I thought it was time to treat myself to a snazzy new setup after many years using the Wii versions that put me in mind of my green screen Amstrad C464.

Thanks to everyone involved in the making Retroarch work on the Wii U, and a big thanks to all the tinkerers in this thread that make it easier to understand.:wub:

It's a damn shame there hasn't been anything really new to RA on Wii U.

It is a shame.

I'd love a Wii U Retroarch FINAL version. It was sad watching the Wii version get more and more broken with every release as they tried to add new fangled things all the time. They should have created a Wii Retroarch Final, with definitive settings and structure instead of breaking it. :cry:

I remember the issues with the sound drivers back in the day.;)

There's still so much untapped potential, like Dynarec, possibly better implementation of shaders. This is probably the main reason I've been cynical about Switch homebrew, devs just dropped Wii U and moved on without so much as a final swansong. It's bullshit.

What do you mean? Switch homebrew has nothing to do with the current WiiU homebrew status, heck even the same developers from 3 years ago are STILL developing for the WiiU (except dimok, fix and alias). The thing which is stopping developers to develop WiiU homebrew is because the current WiiU toolchains aren't any good, these are broken or uncompleted, even the hb launcher is broken at the time being. Currently WiiU homebrew developers are focusing on improving WUT toolchain with cool stuff such SDL2, and, from what I can see, they are working on hw accelerated gfx for WiiU homebrew,. Even with the current broken toolchain, RA WiiU IS STILL being improved (see the P2P netplay fix? see the new ozone menu driver? see the menu widgets?). Sorry bud, but you're talking nonsence from a very negative view of point.

I know Maschell and Quark are still going strong on WiiU homebrew, so there's still hope for sure.
