Sometimes, when I’m gaming me or someone I’m playing with plays a terrible song through their mic but it puts them at a disadvantage because they have to hold their external device to their mic. Is it possible to play songs on a music player through the mic instead of using an external source?

There’s 2 ways I can think of, one easy and one not so easy.

Easy way is to replace your mic with a double ended audio jack cable, one end into the mic port (or line in, if a desktop), and the other end directly into the music player (mp3 player, phone, etc).

Hard way is to route your music playout to the line in through tweaking the audio settings of your computer. You can also just share your device’s audio through a streaming app and put feedback on but that gets messy real quick.

Personally, I prefer when people don’t play their audio over game chat because the compression in place always makes it sound terrible. It’s there for occasional voice transmissions, not constant streaming of music.

My laptop has a usb type C port. Would it be possible to use a usb type c to micro USB adapter plugged into an iPhone and play music off of that? I keep all my music on an iPhone

If you had iTunes installed and connected your iPhone to your PC, you can play the music from your iPhone to your default audio device (e.g speakers).

You would then need software to redirect that sound into your chat (I think OBS can do that). It’s usually not worth the hassle.
