Apex Legends surpasses 25 million players in first week

Last week, we saw the sudden release of Apex Legends, Titanfall developer Respawn's take on the battle royale trend. Since then, the free-to-play game has hit a milestone; over 25 million players have tried it out in the short time since it launched. Respawn also noted that the Apex Legends hit a peak concurrent playerbase of 2 million users, an impressive amount for a game that had no pre-release hype or marketing. Even those who aren't playing the game have shown up to watch live gameplay on Twitch, where viewer turnout was nearly double that of Fortnite. Making further comparisons between the two aforementioned titles, Fortnite's first player count was revealed four months after it launched, where Epic's game had 45 million players. Apex Legends is currently available on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4. Have you tried out the game? Do you think it'll ever manage to surpass the success of Fortnite?

I've seen a little bit of this game and I can see why. It's actually functional, there's no weird gimmicks that were never intended for a BR in the first place (fortnite building), the extra abilities you do get seem reasonably balanced and not just Press R To Win like Overwatch sometimes has, and matches are reasonably fast compared to some other BRs. Being able to revive people is also kinda neat as it encourages you to stay and cheer on your teammates instead of just being thrown out the match when you die.
Yeah the revival mechanic is a nice touch. Just started playing the game today and the very first match played, my squad won. It's a game that encourages teamwork and has a lot of extra bells and whistles, like the ping feature.

It's pretty easy to see why, it's free, runs much better compared to PUBG, less cartoon-ish compared to fortnite (and looks better IMO then both of them). It also has different characters which help mix up gameplay and lead to more variety then pubg or fortnite ever could.

Too bad none of the better UT games have a decent population..

I feel bad for devs that willingly choose to side with a company that slyly buys exclusives that were already up for pre order on one platform.... Their launcher is terrible. Their business ethic is terrible. They're trying to undermine everyone else is one fell swoop in such an underhanded way. They get no respect from me. Same for business.

Also, after playing more of Apex? I can say without a doubt it is my favorite BR game. The specialist gimmick is minor. It may need slight balancing but everything just works

UT3 has a decent amount of open lobbies. played for the first time online and it was a blast

I'm just too wary of installing Origin to play this. That, and I don't appreciate tokenism.

There's hope for a Xenosaga port.

Finally tried this game (on PC Master Race of course because I'm too stingy to pay for online). TBH, I kind of like it, more than any other BR, also it will probably replace overwatch as my play with friend online once a year when we all happen to have free time and the planets align experience.
