The ideal solution is to use the cores as plugins with Wiiflow and with custom .cfg.
However, there's also a bug in all the recent retroarch that skips the .cfg when launched like this. I have a fix but I haven't sent it to their repository yet.
Did you send the fix to retroarch's repository yet? If not, do you have an estimate of when you will be able to do so?

Yes! Wiimpathy already confirmed this multiple times... :glare:
Ok, I've sent a Pull request.
By the way, in case you don't know, the fbaneo core is now part of the official builds : https://retroarch.com/?page=platforms
And yes, you can download the neo core from retroarch website now.
And here's the ultimate proof: :teach:
Code:
https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha2012_neogeo/pull/26
https://www.libretro.com/index.php/core-updates-summary-october-2018/
The commit was done on 24/09 and RetroArch v1.7.5 was released on 01/10, so it's already available! :grog:

Adding virtual memory is not the fix I referred to, but the one @Wiimpathy himself mentions as still pending in the segment I quoted. Here again (emphasis mine):

My bad, then! I didn't understand you...
Sorry! :P
Anyway, that fix has already been merged with the official RetroArch repo.
Check here:
Code:
https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/pull/7853
But since it's recent, it's not on v1.7.5 yet.
You need to get a nightly build (possibly unstable) for that! ;)

No sorry, korean is not possible. Non western languages never worked in Retroarch or that was a long time ago.
Do korean translation ever worked for you in old retroarch versions ?

I understood your mention. As I know there is no old retroarc with korean translation. If you need, I can make to translate for korean base on english.

It's already translated, it's not the problem: https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/blob/master/intl/msg_hash_ko.h
Non western, Arabic, Chinese, Korean etc, can't be displayed at all in rgui. Same for accents. See this discussion(at the end): https://github.com/libretro/fbalpha2012_neogeo/pull/26

What I've done with external translations is a bit buggy and incomplete. Translations are now disabled in official to have more precious MB of Ram for our games.

Thank you for your kind reply. :)

Ok, here's an update for the NeoGeo core :

FBA-VM_NEOGEO R5

- Better loading time. Around 27s for KOF2003 now, it was 40s before.
- Display a simple loading bar.
- Reduce memory cache for the largest games.
- Conditional define for NeoGeoCD in case of backporting recent FBA changes.
- Remove/disable remnants only used for other FBA drivers.

I've made a pull request so that it's available in the daily builds. But, with the latest Retroarch there are more unexpected black screens when starting games. The R5 dol is from january 22 and it's working rather well. It's based on this commit : https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/tree/26ea9d9f0ccb66176b4986cf382a647ce4e01fc5
Right now, I don't feel like testing every commits to see when it happens. I put this here as a reminder or warning in case I quit.

Congrats to Wiimpathy for this awesome achievement. Getting such a smooth NeoGeo emulation on Wii and larger roms to work is nothing less than IMPRESSIVE. Thumbs up!!!

Your work came at the perfect moment as I was struggling with NeoGeo PAL Virtual Console releases displaying in a black border & sluggish 50 Hz and NTSC releases displaying all red on my PAL Wii hooked to my CRT TV via the official RGB Scart cable. I tried many tweaks to get proper color full screen 60 Hz NTSC with patchers, loaders, any region changer... but nothing was satisfying.

Like most homebrews, it looks for sd card by default.
Open retroarch menu then, Settings->Directory->System/BIOS
Go to usb:/retroarch/system and select <Use this directory>

I did that you suggested but i got the same error. My ROMs are in .zip but i think this not a be a problem, the message is something like this: cant open UBS:/retroarch/system/cache/Garou_cache/crom. (This is an example if im trying run garou Mark of wolves).
My ROMs are in USB but i dont see problem with this.
It ask to use romcnv to convert the ROM.

The message just means it can't find the file. And yes, it's working with USB. You're launching from SD card? And you have no problem with this USB drive and other retroarch cores?

Retroarch and roms are both in usb hd. The version R3 runs fine but the Retroarch is in SD Card and roms keep in usb hd.
The difference is that im trying run the R5 from usb.
PS: i tested the "common" rom (KOF96) and it run fine. The problem is only with large NG roms (KOF2003 and Garou Mark of Wolves). All roms are in USB in Zip format.

Please when you report a bug give more details from the beginning. I don't have psychic powers you know.:)
I suppose you're launching retroarch from Hombrew channel. Not my business but if you have an sd card why do you want to launch R5 dol from usb?
Just an advice you may know, try to delete retroarch.cfg(or rename it for a backup). There could be issues with different retroarch versions.

i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling

even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there

and using LLMs to generate NPC dialogue and even dynamically generated quests is something i'm sure is already happening

will just take some time for games made using those things to be completed and released
