Freebird - Switch Clock Speed Control Sysmodule

This is a sysmodule/service for Atmosphere and ReiNX that uses IPC's to communicate with its companion NRO, Freeset. This allows you to use any clock speed I've found on the Switch. The only restriction I have put in place is that you must be plugged into an official charger or docked if you are crazy enough to want to use the highest two GPU clock speeds. I am leaving it completely up to you to choose what clock speeds you want to use. Be careful.

2019070911351400-DB1426D1DFD034027CECDE9C2DD914B8.jpg

Intructions:
  • Atmosphere: Copy over the contents of the zip and reboot your system to load the module. Open Freeset and use that to send over the clock speeds you want.
  • ReiNX: Create a folder in your ReiNX folder named titles if there isn't one. Copy the titles folder from the atmosphere folder to ReiNX/titles. Open "010000000000C235" and move the boot2.flag to the same directory as the exefs.nsp file. Reboot and freebird should now be working on ReiNX.

X turns freebird's clock setting feature on and off. Remember to turn this off before putting your system to sleep. I'm working on it™, but it will cause and require you to fully shutdown and restart your Switch if accidentally left on. When on, freebird will check and set the clocks if they don't match what you choose. When turned off, your clock speeds will be reset and no longer forced.

A sends over the clock speeds shown/chosen from the menu. Up and down change the currently selected option, left and right change speed.

If I missed anything, don't be afraid to ask. I'm open to suggestions too.

I'd like to thank @taggen86, @nabelo, @mathew77, @vanraz86, and @Kirby567fan for taking the chances and testing it. Thanks guys!

Since Tegra X1 was designed 1Ghz of GPU clock and 2 GHz of CPU clock, I think it is still safe for switch to apply that overclock (Docked mode )
Sustained battery voltage is at that level can cause a battery to explode and fry a whole system. Stream overclocks have been documented to do this I'm not sure if it's in. Motor and handheld mode but none the less it poses a risk to your system.

Good news everyone! My Switch actually survived the night here in sleep mode. I might be busy the next couple days, so I might actually upload the newer version later. It's a pretty important fix.

If you were to unplug an ac adapter from the switch, with the high clocks. will it automatically settle down with safer clocks for the battery ?
It will drop back to 768MHz. I figured someone would try it. Maybe I'll make it even lower as a punishment for thinking they could outsmart me.

@JK_ if possible, can you have like 3 options on each, for example. Normal, Overclock, Extreme Overclock. All which are in safe limits? I'm think about kids that not sure what they're doing and fry their Switches. Of course have an "advanced" option to make it custom?
Yeah, presets would be easy to add. I need to clean up Freeset a lot though. The main file is a mess.

I would really like to know if Xenoblade 2 runs better when overclocked.
I actually did have some screenshots from when I hit Torigoth with the original version of this on and off. I don't have them anymore though. Maybe later I can add the hotkey back in if you're ok with some 30 second clips from the Switch's default capture. Resolution and framerate in that particular area improved.

I probe not only for the resolution but for the load time, which is logical, is lower since I earn 400Mhz, that yes you have to have a good SD

If you want to improve load times then do the 256GB NAND upgrade and install all your games on the NAND.

Let me start by saying thank you for this, something I've been wanting for the Switch for a long time and you've made it so easy to use.

Second, I have a few suggestions. Do you think it would be possible to have an overlay (similar to Lolicon on the PS Vita) by pressing a certain button combo? (Ex. +,- and Home at the same time) to adjust clock speeds while in game? I understand this isn't as easy as it sounds, but I think a way to adjust clock speeds in game or even turn on/off Freebird while in game would help.
Also, I was about to mention sleep mode but I see you're already working on a fix

holy crap ! my dream comes true ! i just tested Zelda in Korok Forest and i have to say that HOLY MOTHER , i got better resolution ((handheld) i never use it in docked mode) and there was no fps drop/freezes anymore !
god bless you and good work , keep it up @JK_
also if you don't mind, i have to support you with a couple bucks , so , give us your paypal. )

Suggestion: will be cool if you'll be able to "activate services" on keybinds in game , like keep pressed - and + and ZL and ZR to activate/deactivate.

Hey mate, any idea why this isn't working with reinx and will it have a version for reinx?

Any chance for an SX OS version?

You can use sx os and atmosphere on the same switch as I do. Just put all the necessary atmo files on your sd card and inject the Atmos payload from the sx os menu. a. nice setup us to use nsp's on atmo and xci's on sx os.

I have managed to make it stable with this configuration 1.4Ghz CPU, 768Mhz GPU and 1600Mhz RAM.

I've tried it with Zelda and Skyrim, I'll try ARK

Setting the GPU to 921Mhz is also stable, but there's no significant improvement in Zelda (Kororo Forest) I guess the bandwidth of RAM limits the frame rate.

it is not worth getting to those frequencies, being in the 768Mhz is enough, beyond that no game will be veneficiará of it. It's what I think

I'm just scared not to get my console banned cause SX OS has stealth mode and it's safer for the console that's why I don't boot both
