That's not how copyright works.

It does. SDSetup a. downloads the tools, b. provides links to the source code in question on it's pageand c. adds in a licenses folder that contains the neccesary licenses that apply to the downloaded software.

In addition, SDSetup itself is under the GPL license which means it also complies with the required copyleft of the GPL projects.

Your program does none of these things.

FOSS = Free Open Source Software. Specifically used for licenses endorsed by the FSF/GNU Foundation. The GPL and it's variants are FOSS licenses.

That's not how copyright works. Just because you won't be sued for it doesn't make it legal. Me crossing the street on a red light isn't likely to get me a fine, that doesn't mean I can cross the street on a red light. Absence of getting punished for a crime doesn't not make it a crime.

The problem for you is that the developer has to release their product with the notice that 6c applies on it. You can't choose to follow notice 6c, which for the record, you can't do anyway since you're not physically distributing this program on a physical medium.

(fwiw I don't have any staff position here, just to clear that confusion. I just have quite some time on my hands and an idea of how these licenses work.)

right i think ive tagged you all in this (with help of Ev1l0rd)

Hi im RiPPERD ive been on many scenes over the years with many releases across all platforms, PSP, PS3, Wii, PS4, and now the Switch.

Back in the day i made a Wii Mega Installer it included all the homebrew apps and cfw files etc for the wii and everyone loved it.
So i got a couple of switches for xmas (for the kids) and long story short ive brought my tool back from the dead and made it for the Switch.

I have included the apps you have made in their original state as per your github pages/sources. I have NOT moddified ANY files nor have i taken credit for any of your hard work. i plan on adding the githhub links to my next release which was requested by one of the users on here the other day. so the users can link back to your source.

The main purpose of my app was just to make an AIO easy to use tool for new/n00b and those starting off switch users i have listened to users inputs and made changes to the style of it and conflicting apps etc.
I make NO money from my app i dont use shitty pay/click links etc just standard file host link (the same link on all forums)
I also would like to add i do NOT include the source codes in my release for your apps so there is no way my app can enable users to copy/steal your work

If you have any issues with me using your work then let me know and i will remove it
If you are a dev that i forgot to tag then please contact me

If you a dev that i dont have your software in my app and you want me to add then please let me know with a link to your release and i will add it.

I hope this clears everything up now

i dont have a mac so i cannot really help with this... on another forum a mac user said he would help me port it... but as soon as i agreed... he went quite and not heard from him since... i am open to someone porting this to macos if they know how.... or if someone knows of some software that runs on windows to make mac pgk files that i could use?

to use sx cheat tools i think you must be on sxos mate so unless you paid for sxos then no

however

if you install atmosphere and then edizon then you should be able to do what you require

Could this he done while still able to boot sx OS if needed.

Could you give some steps as I have shit loads of codes for switch games I cant release because I need to find the pointers.

Even my revelation codes for 3ds i could port to switch if only i could figure how to get pointers.

lol the burden isn't on devs to give you permission to violate their licenses, it's on you to comply with the licenses in the first place. not to mention my software is itself complying with other licenses for software it uses, so you're accountable to them too

after looking at what the "installer" does I've noticed that this is just a program made with Setup Factory 6.0 which bundles multiple projects under various licenses as mentioned by Ev1l0rd

this is really scummy behavior from OP and no one should support him for such actions

you can boot any cfw with this and then boot to another so dont see why not

its actually v 9.5 of setup factory so not your best research there.
how is this "scummy" behaviour? its a multi platform (windows os's) installer maker... hardly scummy behaviour is it? as i said its just an easy to use 1 click exe file jesus what is wrong with people these days no wonder the scenes all die out so quickly and devs keep their work to themselves for longer...

shit like this used to be done for fun and people wernt so serious about everything! now everyone got their 2 cents to add and everyone wants to make profit.

as i said ive not done anything different to sdsetup it would seem the only difference is mine is an offline installer and you can choose different files for different sd cards if required

i didnt see it as a dumb idea nor did the 1000s and 1000s of peoples that have downloaded it. im pretty sure half the shit on this forum and many other forums are in breach of some gpl or law in some way... if we all lived our lives by every detail in law we would all be sat at home with fuck all to do except twiddle our thumbs!

you all need to chill out and realise there are more important things to worry about in life than some apps on a forum...

also i would like to add my app is not closed source as such... ive told you how its made and its essentially no different to winzip or winrar and yet if i used winrar instead to make a sfx exe file then none of this would be relevent... i chose to use setup factory as it lets me customise the theme and the text etc making it nicer to look at for the end users that was all

i didnt assume that mate ev1l0rd tagged them all so i copied the tags

this app has been downloaded over 20k times since 1.0 and im sure word would have got back to the devs by now in 1 way or another as its on multiple big forums.

as i said if any devs have an issue then i will happily remove from the app. 1 of the devs liked my post above (statement to them all) but no PM or report so i think this is everyone getting involved for no reason... if the devs have an issue then they can let me know and i will cooperate.

you made a closed source setup with minimal effort and bundle software breaking their license

not only is this illegal but you could also modify the tools you bundle and give people malware

winrar and winzip are programs that allow you to pack or unpack archives
the only likely thing you two have in common is that you both unpack archives

You could have made a custom UI using some cross platform UI framework and made the tool download a copy of the zips to keep localy
but instead you opted to use some setup generator and bundle other projects

and even if that was too much for you Setup Factory allows for lua scripting so you could have done much more than you have done now

also didn't address my point that Lockpick contains among others Atmosphere and Linux source code so not only do you have to produce source code for your project to comply with their GPLv2 licenses, but even if this asking permission thing was feasible, you'd have to get permission from every contributor to those projects XD
