PS Vita Hacking FAQ and Information

Latest hackable firmware: 3.73
Last updated: 15th June 2021

Enabling Homebrew and Firmware Versions

Can I hack my PS Vita?
Yes. Follow vita.hacks.guide to hack your PS Vita on 3.73 and below. You can install Vita homebrew and Vita backups, and run PSP homebrew and PSP games.

Can I downgrade my Vita?

Yes. You can downgrade your Vita to any version as long as it's above or equal to the version it came on from the factory. Follow this guide.

If I buy a brand new Vita, what firmware version will it come on?
All new Vitas come on 3.60 or below, with the exception of some Japanese consoles that come on 3.65 or below. All firmwares are currently hackable, so it's not an issue.

Homebrew

All items in this section require HENkaku.

How do I download homebrew on my Vita?
If you follow vita.hacks.guide, you should end up with the Vita Homebrew Browser installed. You can use this to install new homebrew from VitaDB, a regularly updated Vita Homebrew Database.

Can I use a microSD card as a memory card?
Yes. Buy a compatible board from eBay or Amazon and install the storagemgr plugin using this guide. Alternatively, PSTVs can use USB Mass Storage and store games on there.

Can I run Vita backups?
Yes. Install the NoNpDrm plugin and backup your games. Afterwards, place your NoNpDrm dumps into the ux0:app directory. Then, refresh the database using VitaShell.

Can I run PSP homebrew and PSP backups with HENkaku?
Yes. Install Adrenaline using this guide to use PSP homebrew and backups.

vita.hacks.guide has been a massive help to me. I wouldn't have known where to start without this clear and concise guide, please guide me on how to donate to those responsible... am I to credit Pailect, emyli, or both?

Thanks, I'm aware of the donations page you linked to, but there are two PayPal links, so I wasn't clear which to use...i.e. should donation go to one, the other or be split between the two :)
Ohhh. You should do both. I would donate to emily because she had the original guide, Plailect just made it more popular and gave it a facelift (not that Plailect is bad)

I see Henkaku Enso Installer updated to v1.1 @ 26.0.2018.
Do I need to update it somehow on my already ensoed 3.60 Vita?
Not that i'm planning to uninstall Enso in near future, but anyway...

Edit: Nevermind, figured it out.

Yes, but old plugins are only compatible with 3.60, also almost everything is tested on 3.60
Everything will just work on 3.60, while a few may not work on 3.65(+)
If you don t care about that few things, 3.65 is also ok
I don t know what is still not updated for 3.65.

Anyway you asked for the best ;)

If you follow the guide, it will take you through updating to 3.60.

This is the ideal firmware as it's both compatible with old 3.60-only homebrew (developed before you could run homebrew on 3.65), and compatible with games on higher firmwares using reF00D, a plugin that allows you to run games and system apps on a firmware different to your own.

3.65 also has Enso and allows you to run newer games, however it is not compatible with 3.60-only homebrew and plugins (I think! I haven't got a Vita anymore so if anyone would like to correct me on that, please do).

Is there a fix forE 3.65 HENkaku Enso? I know 3.60 got a fix for later games to run. Wondering because wanted to update but aldo be able to play all new games that need higher fw

Edit:
Ok so I tried to update my fw to 3.65 with the content manager and doing update via pc and i keep getting error no usb connected. Can I please get some help. I even tried reinstalling the drive with Zadig but it gives me an error in there. Again can I please get some help to update to 3.65. Trying to install 3.65 HENkaku Enso. Now I don't have a psn account on the vita or a memory card in it, is that the reason its not updating?

Can I downgrade my Vita to 3.68 or below?
No. There are no ways to downgrade a Vita. Any site that claims otherwise is lying. The only way to "downgrade" is to buy and replace the Vita's motherboard, or to buy a new Vita on 3.68 or below.
Might want to change that.
