Well if your current firmware doesn't match the firmware of your NAND backup, then you would need to restore boot0/boot1 as well which are also firmware-specific which would wipe out the part of EmuNAND that gets installed into boot1. If it does match, then you can get away with just restoring the eMMC raw GPP AKA the rawnand.bin. However if you currently have AutoRCM enabled, then your console won't be able to boot normally once you restore your NAND because AutoRCM is installed into boot0. If you don't have AutoRCM right now, then your console will just boot into OFW once you restore the NAND.

If you don't remember what firmware your NAND backup was running, you can check it with this tool.

Ok so how should i proceed ?
How would you do ?

I can't nor will I instruct you how to proceed. My role is only to give you information of which you educate yourself to make the best decision. There is no "best" way to proceed because every single user wants something different out of their Switch.

Thanks. Fixed SD Files attributes in Hekate but without formatting to FAT32. Never had a Problem with exFAT so far and didn't want to change that. Now everything works fine. Thanks!

Im looking at getting a bigger Micros SD card, possibly the 400 GB one, but just wondered if using its with my SXOS hacked switch was as easy as dragging the contents over from the old one?

It really is just that easy. Well unless you are using a Mac in which case you need to use Hekate to fix the archive flag like the user above but otherwise, it is as simple as dragging and dropping the files onto another SD card.

I guess someone can answer me this very quickly:
Which filesystems does SX OS's USB game launching feature allow?
FAT32? exFAT? even NTFS?

Hi, just bought a switch. after reading a few guides, I have a few question :
- after installing game on a custom firmware, should I alway boot on it to play the games ?
- my current version is 4.1.0, should I upgrade it because I heard there is 7.0.0 out now.
- if I load a custom firmware i could never update the switch without being banned ?

thanks for your help

1. If you install games you didn't own (aka you didn't buy on eShop) you can only play them inside a CFW with signature patches, yes. Also be aware that you get banned as soon as you install any games (NSP files), even (or especially) in a CFW. Look for 90DNS and use that or stay completely offline (airplane mode) before you start hacking or using a CFW. Also do a NAND backup with hekate before you do anything so you could go back to a clean and non bannable state just in case. (that won't help you once you're Switch got banned already though)
2. That depends. I would update to 6.2.0 to enjoy all current available games. To prevent your fuse state (so you could go back to 4.1.0 if that might be needed for anything in the future) don't update the official way but with ChoiDujourNX.
3. Loading a CFW alone might lead to a ban but especially using homebrew apps and installing stuff definitely does so stick to what I wrote to your first question.

thank you for your detailed answer !

So that mean I will need to connect my switch to my computer/phone and use a jig at each reboot to play games ?

Theoretically yes.
But you could activate AutoRCM (from within hekate -> tools) so the Switch always gets into RCM after being off.
And also I would recommend you to keep it in standby mode all the time.
Play some games, put it in standby and place it in the dock to charge. This way your CFW stays active obviously.
As an addition to this, there's a feature coming soon:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/rebooting-from-atmosphere-into-atmosphere-is-coming.529531/
With this, even error screens won't harm you if you're on the road and don't have a jig, PC, dongle or whatever with you as it reboots directly into Atmosphère (CFW) if something happens.

Edit: Keep in mind that AutoRCM has its benefits and downsides. Do some reading. You can however enable/disable it again anytime from within hekate.

So I just installed Atmosphere onto my Switch and it works great. I have been able to install some games using Goldleaf, but experienced some crashes with this. Is there another more stable program that installs NSPs?

You can always use Tinfoil, even though Goldleaf is Tinfoil's successor.

Question regarding Switch Modding.

Question 1: Anyways, I'm literally wanting to Mod just to get Dark Souls Remastered. Once I get enough courage to use a jig (most likely paperclip :/)and have the basics set up, which program would I use to install NSP files onto the switch? I understand I'll have to convert the xci. I just want to know the best non-paid app to use under the homebrew to play Pirated Switch games.

Question 2: Also. Once I get Dark Souls onto the switch with the method, can I play it without rebooting back into RCM. I don't plan on using this for anything other than obtaining Dark Souls. As I don't want to keep putting in a jig or for the matter having the auto-rcm.

Been reading a lot of tutorials..But not getting direct answers.

Thanks for your reply. I think I will stick with Goldleaf then.

Just one more question. Is there an easy way to update all my homebrew apps without taking the SD card out and downloading the app from my PC?

Not an expert, but I did get mine set up last night and installed a few NSP files.

Question 1: I used Goldleaf. Seems like this is the go to for installing unless someone knows of a better program.

Question 2: You can play as long as you don't power down or restart your Switch. Once you do either one, you have to put the Switch back into RCM and use the payloader to reload the custom firmware.

@Ozisis you can try the homebrew app store, it has update for some of the apps.
