Hi. I have a n3DSXL. I never backed it up except game saves using JKSM. I think I should backup the whole 3DS to my PC regularly... How to do it? Thank you

Use GM9 to backup your entire SysNAND, Otp.bin and arm9/arm11 dumps (all can be done with the GM9 scripts), then use JKSM to dump all your saves (newest version added mass dumping so really simple) but remember to also dump extra data as some games save there instead. Finally, backup all contents from your SD card by making a copy over to your computer. This final backup WILL be encrypted, but should anything happen, having the initial stuff I mentioned can give you hope of 100% recovery even on a completely different 3DS.

I cannot enter GM9 holding start when restarting? How to check if I have the latest version of it and if not, how to get it back? (I have FBI, FTPDB) thx

I have finally entered GodMode9! I used it to backed-up SysNAND, dumped Otp.bin and boot9/boot11 (are they the same as arm9/arm11?). Then, I used JKSM to dump all my saves and extra data by touching "Dump All".

Now I just need to backup all contents from your SD card by making a copy over to my computer! Which FTP homebrew do you recommend? Or it takes wayyyyy too long to backup SD card using FTP, so you just remove it the physical way everytime? thx

The time depends on how many games you have installed onto your 3ds. If you have more than 5, I would recommend physically plugging it into the computer. Unless you have multiple hours free to let your computer and 3ds transfer the files. As for a good FTP server for the 3ds, I would recommend FTBD.

For FTP, I use FTPD with FileZilla, but unless you got less than 4GBs or so worth of stuff and a good connection, it will take HOURS! Highly suggest using an SD card reader instead, as it's roughly 20 times faster, maybe even more (3DS wifi is bad so you won't ever get more than 1MB/s whereas with a card reader you can easily get 20MB/s).

After you backup all contents from the SD card, remember to delete from the SD card the NAND dumps and all that as the take like 2-3GBs total and aren't needed until you need to restore your 3DS to a previous state. Instead, keep those backups only on your PC and if you ever need them, then move them back to the SD card. Save backups though hardly take any space, so feel free to keep those on the SD card (got like 400 game saves backed up and only take like 80MBs).

PS: Also, yes, boot9/boot11 are the same thing as arm9/arm11 dumps.

I think you/someone should make a thread on this and it should be pinned
how to fully backup and restore your 3DS system
