and well nothing happened ban9 got stuck and Wolfvak idk if you know any command line to convert the anim and config to a rawvideo file plus if i were to compile it instead of this recompiled version what software to I use to compile it for it to compress and uncompress?

That's not how ban9comp works, check out its README to figure out how to decompress a file, then you have to feed the decompressed file to ffmpeg (assuming it's compressed, otherwise just feed the file directly to ffmpeg)

Pushed a new commit to the repo, the most important bit is a new version of makebax which uses OpenCV to decode all sorts of video formats, so you should be able to convert from MP4/MKV/whatever else to BAX directly. The README on it hasn't been updated, and I've only really tested it on WSL (1803 / Ubuntu Bionic).

Unfortunately, as the commit says, OpenCV has a ton of dependencies, way more than I'm willing to link against and support, so I'll try to think of another solution for video decoding in the future. Until then if you're feeling adventurous feel free to try to compile and use it, and report any bugs or suggestions here.

Ill try it out, ive delt with dependency hell before.
EDIT: Do .gif files fall under what it can convert?

I just tested it and yeah, they can be converted, but the quality loss is pretty bad.
On the other hand, it also reduced the compressed size from ~8MiB to ~5MiB, so if you value file size over quality it could be used.

I guess I'll start with sharing mine:

Download

EDIT: Also, I didn't even know there was an update to this that removes the need for ffmpeg, I still have the initial release.... snagging now.
EDIT2: Oh.... you didn't actually release that version.... snagged the latest released version anyway.

Yeah, I haven't released an update because I'm not really happy with the current solution for makebax, and I want to make further performance improvements to the BAX source itself.
