Slightly updated... Need people to test. Rebug / Trinket new methods only at this time.

Make sure you have vol+ strap fitted or it will be just standard.

Hold vol+ for 5 seconds to pick payload. Press again to confirm after it blinks out your desired payload.

Adding mode selection tomorrow.

Anyone fancy trying this?

Oh yeah with pleasure dude. I'm a fancy man i love beta testing :gba:

Never have a chance to screw back the switch cover with you :rofl2:

Edit 1: I'm lost in the Christmas tree so many colors' led...Green, Red, Blue, Yellow...Let's jump into it lol

Oh man it smells great !

Edit 2 : Nevermind the leds' colors. Countdown begins just after the rapid confirm LED flash (for me Red light) like @mattytrog said.
Count your payload's number and validate with a short press on Vol+. After the switch reboots you're on the payload you choose :D

Tested with three payloads :

  • Sx
  • hekate_ctcaer_4.6
  • memloader v3
It works flawlessly @mattytrog you're the one :hrth:

I understand i need to press twice the button on the chip to flash it with first switchboot and then simple uf2.
But as soon as this done if i want to update simple uf2 do i need to open the console again to press twice the button or can updates is available in an other way ?

Thanks,

Jul

No you don't need to open the console.

Just double press the reset button on the chip (normally by flexing the back cover) then connect to pc

Do you have a picture of how to install the chip , because with the shield plate behind the back cover and the chip does it work by just flexing the back cover ?

I am stuck at step 4 due to my chip not containing the same data as the example in the guid. I am a bit confused an would appreciate help with how I should proceed from now on. :)
It is a Trinket m0 from Adafruit

Edit:

I fixed it... when I can call it like that xD I guess I pressed the button in the wrong rythm? Hmmm... however now it works like it should (y)

Just to say that with testholdvolno2 in Trinket Mode 2 with only two payloads named respectively payload1 and payload2 you can still count until three. Choosing the third makes you load Hekate's one built in Simple UF2 ;)

Simple flow chart to explain how the new vol+ feature works in 0.9.7.

Not yet released. Coming. Got to do the pots and housework first!

Any idea how to take the chip off? (Green circle shows the new chip, Red the plastic I'm worried about using my heat gun)
I have heat resistant tape, but I don't think it will protect the plastic, should I cover it with a coin or something similar, will that be enough?
I will of course take the board out, and take the connectors off, but that still leaves the mounted plastics on the board.

A good layer of kapton all around the chip.

Wrap it round the board as flux will remove the stickiness. When lifting chip off, be careful not to touch the resistors as they are super brittle and blow-away-tastic. The caps are a bit tougher and heat up slower

Right...

0.9.7 finally coming tomorrow

Changelog:

  • Long-press vol+ to change payload / mode / modchip settings / reset modchip settings

  • Added new backup and restore option called "Quick" in Backup / Restore options...
  • Backs up PRODINFO, BOOT0 and BOOT1 to SD ROOT for easy retrieval.
  • Restores from same folder
MEANT AS A BARE MINIMUM BACKUP ONLY.

If you can`t be bothered to wait for full or partial dumps, or are VERY limited on space, use this. You can still backup and restore as usual in Hekate too.

This is meant as a last-chance saloon incase some twat writes another pikabricker and you backup your fucked NAND by accident.

At least with BOOT0, you can get your BIS keys and PRODINFO has your certs, making a NAND rebuild easier possible.

Coming tomorrow. Off to bed. Night night

:)

So, if I use SXOS and RCMX86 in dualboot mode (joycon stripe only)... No multipayload needed...

Can I stay in 0.9.6?

The new nand backup/restore option in hekate seems soooo good.

If you are using anything apart from feather m0 or itsy bitsy m0, then just update. No issues.

@mattytrog ok after several tests with V0.9.7 here's my opinion :

Mode 1, 2 and 4 are useless now. Indeed the payload's counter increase is unnecessary after reboot as we can now chosing the one we want by a long press on Vol+. Moreover Mode 2 and 4 made a mix with the Payloads order and number even SX one not always recognized (Had to push it with Hekate). I think you should only keep one Mode to simplify. The Mode 3.

Tested on a Trinket M0 with Payloads :
  • SX named payload1
  • Hekate named payload2
  • Memloader V3 named payload3
  • Biskeydump V7 named payload4
Here's to you :)

Brilliant. Thanks for testing.

I just keep the modes etc for people who haven't got the vol+ strap.

Did you notice the new backup and restore option?

Ok i understand. So they have to Hex edit don't they ?
Yes. I haven`t written down the offsets yet. They can activate the modepin too.

Yeap. It's pretty cool. 12MB worthing if it can unbrick a console. I always wondered how many MB are needed
on a Switch despite a whole Nand backup to be safe ;)

Well, thats what I thought...
With BOOT0, you can derive all your BIS keys
With PRODINFO, your certs are safe.

You can rebuild a NAND completely from scratch if you have these files.

I made a mistake though.
I said they are backed up to SD root. They aren`t. They are in the backup folder.

Listen, Dougie. Thanks for testing out everything. It really is appreciated. I never get much feedback despite a lot of views (thats a good thing maybe?). So to read it is working well means a lot. Cheers!

A lot of people (who have been here since Switchhacks day 1) think this Simple-UF2 is a pointless exercise.

This is MEANT to be a simple solution. Guess the "modchip" (it isn`t a modchip in the classical sense) has evolved since I started this back in summer.

I agree there is little need for the mode function if all straps are fitted. But I was bored. Drinking Whiskey. Which I am doing now. Wondering what else I can add...
