Every time you save your town in-game, it creates a new "secure Value" which has to match in your garden(_plus).dat file.

If you have the "Orginal save file" you can revert to that. to do so you need to do the following:
  1. export your current garden(_plus).dat from your DS
  2. Load your "Orginal save file" in the online editor.
  3. Click the tad "Other" and click the pencil next to the "Secure Value"
  4. in the popup, open your "just exported garden(_plus).dat" and the editor takes the value and puts in in your old one
  5. Save the file and import it into your game.
Okay, so I found my old save, but how exactly do I do step 4? It just says “Update secure NAND value” or “Cancel”

Yeah that’s the thing, I don’t have my older saves because I trashed them and emptied the trash, so I can’t get it back unless I use a recovery app or something :(

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I’m having the same problem, except my backup is just the same thing with some less furniture :( how do you fix it???
If you pm me your save, I can try to take a look at it. :)

Good news! I found my old saves! I had to make the hidden “trashes”’file visible on my SD card. I meant to say this sooner, but thank you for helping!

Ah, nice you've found it. And for the other question you just click the button "Update secure NAND value" and it shows you a file browser to select your latest save export file and automatically reads it in and put it in save you've currently open on the site.

It's not working, when I open the "save manager" it gives me a "Not found?" error. I have an Old 2ds with cartridge ACNL: welcome amiibo update

I also have the cardridge with the update installed, no issues at all. Which save game extractor do you use?

You mean the one in the zip file from the online editor?
I suggest you use "Checkpoint" as I'm using that program and experience no issues with the import/export of my garden_plus.dat.
  1. Keep your original savefile at a safe place.
  2. use Checkpoint to extract the animal crossing current cartridge save and copy it to your pc. (check 8 for the location)
  3. Load your Original Save File with the online editor.
  4. Once loaded click on the tab Other as click the pencil icon next the the big number saying "Secure value:".
  5. Click the red Update Secure NAND Value button. A file browser opens.
  6. Navigate to you just extracted garden_plus.dat and this editor will copy over this ID and return you to the editor.
  7. Press the big yellow button Save Changes to get your edited garden.dat.
  8. Copy this new garden.dat to your SD under /3ds/checkpoint/saves/<gamename>/<new folder name>
  9. Open check point on the 3DS, select the cartridge. On the lower screen you'll see your newly made folder. Click it once and hit the button Restore.
  10. Everything should be working now.

This created a new map with no errors. do the tut, save the game, extract the dave for your new secure value and use this save to update the secure value of your savegame you're trying to rescue.
If not I think your secure value is corrupted. this can be solved by starting the game and save the game, then the game changes the secure value. export from there and use this save for the Secure Value.

Last resort option, if your current save isn't loading anymore, to fully reset AC:NL. Save and export this fresh save to update your secure ID, this way you are 100& certain the secure ID is valid

Use JKSM. It ignores the secure value as well. The ACNL save editor from the save editor page is severly outdated and doesnt work with with current homebrew loader versions.

So first of all I hope this is the right thread to post this, if not just let me know. Basically I tried to homebrew my 3DS for the first time today (with Steelminer: Sub Wars) to hack my Animal Crossing: New Leaf town with the save editor and everything was just fine at first. However, after inserting my SD Card back to my 3DS I had to uptade Animal Crossing. I tried to uptade it but I kept getting the message "can't access SD Card" so I wasn't able to uptade Animal Crossing, also Sub Wars doesn't show up anymore so I can't access Homebrew anymore. My SD Card works perfectly fine though, I don't know what do to anymore. Thanks for helping me out, I hope I described everything clear enough (:

edit: I don't really know how I fixed this but now sub wars shows up and I can access Homebrew. However, Animal Crossing still asks me to uptade the game (I have a physical copy of the game which doesn't include the Amiibo Uptade) and whenever I try to uptade it, I keep getting the error "an error has occurred, forcing the software to close."

Not totally true. I'm with my New 3DS on 11.8 with luma and use checkpoint to import/export save games from my Animal Crossing: New Leaf cartridge, FTP_GX to transfer (XL's SD card is hidden and I want to remove the backplate as less as possible to avoid damage, as I have a Hyrule Special Edition and I don't want any scratches in my golden coloured plating), edit the save with the online editor and in reverse order write it back without any issues.
Only thing is after running a homebrew app (save injector) I have to reboot my 3DS before AN:CL will load, else it's just hanging on a 3ds logo!

Might be a misunderstanding but imho you wrote "The ACNL save editor from the save editor page is severly outdated and doesnt work with with current homebrew loader versions" so I just said it's qorking on my side.

My roommate just bought an old pink 3DS XL, and it's at ver. 7.2.0-17U. They plan to wipe and update the system in a couple of days, but I want to hack my ACNL before that happens since my DS is past 11.5. In order to even view my ACNL town on the pink 3DS, I have to insert both my cartridge and my SD card into it. If i use the other SD and my cartridge, it asks to create a new file.

I'm wondering: can I use my cartridge, my SD, homebrew, and acnl save editor to hack my existing ACNL town on pink 3DS, move all the buildings and characters I please, then save and switch the cartridge and SD back to my 3DS? Will hacked AC:NL run on a system that does not have ACNL save editor installed and is updated beyond 11.5? Will I be able to homebrew the pink 3DS and connect it to an ACNL cartridge that is updated beyond the pink system's update?
Extra details:
This sounds like bricking material to me, so I'm nervous. My 3DS had soundhax until that was killed, all the files are still on the SD. I still have a hacked ORAS (Star Sapphire) that runs fine in spite of me not having access to homebrew anymore. I do not already have a save backup for ACNL (or any game, for that matter) but, obviously, I have to make one if we think this will work out.

Does anybody know how I can apply custom patterns onto other villagers? On the save editor, it is just "Custom Pattern," I think it has something to do with the Flags, but I can't figure it out.

So I downloaded everything onto my old little 3DS and from anyone who I've asked, I gotta use JK's Save Manager to save because AC:NL save manager doesn't even realize I have a game in the system(Unless it's supposed to be downloaded, but I got only hardware, never software), SO I go to JK's and it never gets through a yellow screen. Never at any time i've tried.

So I guess my question is, how do I get passed this stupid yellow screen when I go into JK's?

Usually a yellow screen means the "Homebrew" program is stuck on booting up. Can you confirm other "Homebrew Apps" are working without any issues?

Hello ^.^
I have some issues with my ACNL save after using the editor, and I hope someone could maybe tell me what I'm doing wrong ^^

So, here is the situation :
I obtained the garden_plus file of a dream town thanks to someone on reddit, and I wanted to use it on the acnl editor. I just wanted to import the map of the dream town because I find it beautiful , and keep all the rest of my stuff (players, villagers, objects,etc...)

There is an option 'import map' on the editor, so I chose the map from the garden_plus file of the dream town and imported it to the garden_plus file of my town. On the editor, everything was displayed perfectly. But then , after using JKSM , I launch the game, Isabelle is talking to me, I start with my mayor and.... The game is doing something very strange.

My character is just a dark silhouette, and I'm in front on the rails of the train station, just at the entrance of the shopping street. I can't move, I can't do anything. It's the same if I try to play with other players, not only with my mayor.

Then, I tried to put back my old save from my town with the original map... and it works again.

So I have some questions : - does anybody have ever seen this bug ? - is there a way to import the map from a dream town without bug or have I to copy the map manually in the editor ?

I can show some pictures of the bug if you want to see, it's reallllyyyy strange ahaha !

Thank u for your help <3

some issues...a dream town
Was this file obtained from the town's owner, or was it obtained as a dream town?

If I had to guess, the file could be missing some info on characters that is necessary for a save file but not for a dream town. Since, you know, the players from that town are all NPC's, not save files. They don't need storage/inventory, bell balance, debt, achievements, encyclopedias, shop levels, museum data, etc.
So I imagine that the garden_plus for a dream town has those removed, to decrease server storage and loading times. And the player would spawn at the bed (on the plaza) in a dream town, but that isn't present normally, so I imagine the game is confused. You're playing as an NPC.
Perhaps the dark silhouette is a product of putting an NPC model on the player- I believe model swaps mess up lighting. That one is a bit of a stretch of logic, though.
