Hiya! I'm having a problem where when I exit any of the top applications (Friends List, Notifications, etc) it gets stuck on the "Home Menu" screen. Opening the Internet Browser causes it to get stuck on "internet Browser". I need to force shut down because it just wont load regardless of how long I leave it.

I'm running CFW (Luma) on the latest firmware. My o3DS is also from Japan and the region was changed to EUR so it could be in english

Assuming you have arm exceptions set to on in the Luma settings, what error exactly are you getting? The error message tells you at least vaguely what may be the issue. Also, it it JUST the stuff from the top bar (Notes, FL, Notifications, Browser, etc.) rather than actual apps?

I think it's on? I don't anything where it says it's on.
I don't get any error message, it gets stuck on the home menu message when you exit out. Yes it's just the stuff at the top, everything else works

Well, getting stuck and crashing are two COMPLETELY different things. Go on Luma settings and turn on arm exceptions. After that, try and see if you get a black screen with an error message or it's just frozen. Getting stuck on the "Home" loading screen after exiting such apps can happen in even non-CFW 3DSs (happened to my O2DS couple times), so doubt it's the region change causing the issue. Just for good measure, if you don't get an error message with arm exceptions to on, try booting into recovery mode (A+R+L+Up on D-pad while booting) and redownload the latest firmware through it, that should fix it, usually happened to me when an update wasn't installed correctly.

Ah I see... Well I thought it was crashing because no matter how long I leave it there it just won't go back to the home menu. My non-CFW 3DS gets stuck sometimes too, but after I turn off the wifi it loads the home menu. That's not the case with my JPN 3DS tho

I'll try that, hopefully it'll start working

Edit: I tried turning on arm exceptions, nothing. And it won't boot up recovery mode, it stays on a black screen

If arm exceptions don't show an error, then it's not crashing, just frozen. Try and see if it freezes while you don't have the SD card inserted a couple times, just to rule out any possibility of the SD card being the cause of the issue. If it doesn't get stuck, then it's the SD card, if it does, it's the NAND (which recovery mode should fix if you can load it up).

Tried taking the SD card out, yep it still freezes. So I should try booting up recovery mode with the SD card inserted?

SD card is irrelevant to recovery mode. If it freezes without it, it means you simply have a badly installed update, so you have to use recovery mode to fix that (updates are saved in the NAND which is the internal storage meant for the firmware and key apps like system settings/friend list and the like). Have wifi on and then turn off, then turn on while holding down the keys to boot into RM. Don't know why it blackscreens for you, but just try a bit and see if it works.

Blackscreen again? Only thing I can think of is to ask someone else then as the last option as far as I know is ctr transfer (which is the last thing you should do when trying to solve an issue)...

@TurdPooCharger Got any idea what she can do about this issue? Recovery mode doesn't work, it's not an SD card problem and just don't think we should jump straight to ctr transfers if you know of any other way to fix it.

@FarisMarie, because you mentioned region changing your JPN o3DS to EUR firmware, can you verify you have this file?

  1. Press (A) button on SecureInfo_CShow in Hexeditor → (A) button.
  2. Hold the (R)-shoulder button and press (Y) button to change the hex view.
  3. Look at hex offset 0x100. Verify that yours has a value of 02, which is EUR.
    • Sorry about the picture below not showing an example view of EUR.
    • Code:
      00 = JPN , 01 = USA, 02 = EUR, 03 = AUS * [check 3dbrew link], 04 = CHN, 05 = KOR, 06 = TWN

Because the o3DS, o3DSXL, and o2DS are known to act funny when their WiFi module is seated loosely or unconnected, can you tell us if you already updated its 3DS firmware to Sys 11.9.0-42E? Since you already tried Recovery Mode, try this:
  • HOME Menu → System Settings → Other Settings → System Update

Yes it's 11.9.0-42E, I updated it a few days ago with no problems

Do one additional litmus test to rule out bad WiFi module connection. It could have been knocked loose between the time you updated and now.

Try visit several websites with the 3DS Internet Browser: google.com, nintendo.com, gbatemp.net, etc.

Ah, now it seems to be stuck on the "Internet Browser" screen. I have to force shut it off

Just want to mention that I had the exact same issue when I region changed my EmuNand to test some things. The old 3DS couldn't return to the home menu from any applet. I didn't really bother because it was an EmuNand and thought this was normal behavior when you region change a 3DS. The sysNAND that I used as a base works flawless to this very day on this 3DS

BTW I changed the EUR old 3DS to a USA and later to a JAP one
