As long as they're just installed to the console, then it'll just be as simple as copying them to your HDD in the system settings.

Yeah I wanted to mention that in my earlier answer but forgot.. I did see that this was possible in a Youtube video :-)

It doesn't matter what the drive is formatted to, the console will recognise that it isn't formatted correctly, and will use its own format once you plug it in. Just make sure you aren't using 'loadiine' backups, as these have low compatibility and speeds. WUP backups are meant to be put on an SD card temporarily, then installed to the specially formatted drive using WUP installer GX2.

Okay so when I have Mario Kart 8 (Legitiment copy) on my upcoming wii U and want to get DLCs from USB helper.. Is it as simple as drag and drop, as long as its the right folder?

Great, and a question in the same category.. I've seen some huge track packs for mario kart Wii, like zefs CT pack.. Do you know if that can be "applied" to the Iso inside the vWii ?
That can be a bit complicated. If you're savvy enough, you can can patch your ISO manually and add it to the Wii U menu, with gamepad support. Otherwise, you can still use Wii game mods in vWii just like you would on an original Wii, like CTGP and any mods which use riivolution also work.

I don't understand what you mean with "and add it to the Wii U menu, with gamepad support" ?

It's possible to add Wii ISOs to the Wii U menu instead of loading them through the vWii menu which lets you use the gamepad controls, which isn't usually possible through vWii, it's a bit of a complicated process though.

Is it injects you're talking about here? I'm a quick learner, so when I get my console (on Monday!) And there's not to great a risk of bricking, I'm gonna check that out. :)

Wii U games don't come in ISO format, so I'm sure if you found a WUP game on another site, it would be in a zipped file, which would extract to said folder. But, a program called 'Wii U USB Helper' is probably the most convenient way to get all your games. It was shut down, and I don't think I'm allowed to link to the fix.
You can link the fix, I've done so multiple times.

USB Helper is truly awful. UI/UX travesty. Just use uTikDownloadHelper, far nicer :)

Cold Boot Haxchi is a brick risk. If you get the tiniest corruption on the internal storage, you're bricked. Just use regular Haxchi. It's not a huge deal to tap an icon once per boot.

"What media should I use if I want to create a backup of my Wii U games? Dual-Layer DVDS? Blu-Ray?"

Damn! I didn't realize there were people left in the civilized world that still think to use DVD's, or Blu-Rays for anything anymore. Not only are you new to the Wii U scene, but I would say that you're also new to the 21st century;). Ditch those thoughts about using disc media for anything these days. DVD's, CD's, Blu-Rays, etc are like cassette tapes, 8-track, or VHS tapes. Completely obsolete these days, and worthless when it comes to hacking your consoles. Good luck!!

Well I do see your point, but apparently you do not see mine, given those snarky remarks.. :P The ONLY reason I mention burning something to a disc is because of performance.. I've seen how poorly games run, when running of an SD card (even a high-end one) as well as a thumb drive. I've tried a shitty cheap thumb drive, and an expenssive one (Corsair survivor). the performance was the same = sucked.. But everyone seems to have a great experience, running games off of a hard drive, so I got easily convinced.. If you read my later posts, you would see that I intend to buy two hard drives, one for Wii backups and one for Wii U.. So instead of talking about joining the 21st century, how about you join this thread, today.. :-)

UI travesty? Does that really matter as long as the games work? :-) I don't see the point sorry

I might consider not using cold boot.. wouldn't want any risk of bricking my Wii U.. They are not exactly easy to come by in my country

I was talking about the use of uTikDownloadHelper vs usb helper.. I cannot get uTikDownloadHelper working, but the other one works for me.

I will probably use the standard Haxchi for my Wii U.

Just do the host file edit. Google for it, I can't link it. Will work fine.
