Homebrew Smash 4 gamecube controller vs Smash Ultimate controller for Nintendont?

Hi guys, i was looking to buy a gamecube controller to play GC games and some Sm4sh on my wii u.. Now, i know nintendo released new gamecube controllers and adapters for the switch, much like they did in 2014 with the wii u, i was wondering which one is better between the 2? Is there any difference at all, is one more accurate to the OG gamecube controllers than the other, does the switch adapter work exactly like the wii u one or is it worse? I know i'm asking alot of questions, but since i'm lacking both an original controller and an adapter, i would like to get the best experience possible on nintendont, especially for the few games that require analogue trigger input and swapping controller ports

I can't speak for the Smash Ultimate controllers, but the smash 4 controller feels exactly like the original controller. The buttons all feel the same. The shape is exactly the same. I think the original GC controllers may have a slightly smoother finish, but that's about it. I've been using it to play GC games on my wii the last 3 years and it's perfect.

I don't have either adapter myself, but looking on reddit, it sounds like the Wii U and Switch adapters are functionally identical and cross compatible between each console.

Thanks for the info! that's good to hear since the brand new adapter is cheaper at the moment. Now i need someone who has tested the new controller, since some users were reporting an issue with the left stick permanently moving in one direction, i'm not sure if it is a flaw in the controller itself or if those who reported it were unlucky enough to get defective units. Out of curiosity, what adapter are you using? Some third party usb adapter or one of those you plug into the wiimote?

Oh no, I've just been using it directly through a GC controller port on my original Wii. Never used it on the Wii U.

nice, the fact that you can use the smash 4 controller with a gamecube or wii is kind of cool, might try with my old wii as well

Edit: if anyone else is interested, i was doing some research and found that the mayflash controller adapter works just as well as the original one, and has a PC mode too. What's interesting is that if you use the pc mode on wii u it works with a couple other games (other than smash) it also has a calibration software on pc. I'm probably going with that one, unless i can find the switch adapter somewhere.

Have 4 of the new smash ultimate controllers and the Mayflash Wii U / Switch adapter.

Works with Smash Ultimate (switch), Smash U (wii u) and Nintendont.

Doesn't not work with vWii and wii64 without a GameCube to Wii motion adapter.

The controller does show drift in Nintendont only. This can be resolved by editing the Wii U Adapter INI in the controllers folder and changing the X and Y stick offstets. I used 10 for Y and 5 for X.

Haven't tested out the Ultimate controller with Nintendont, but it feels just like an old yet brand new official controller in Dolphin.

Thanks guys, just ordered both the smash ultimate controller and the mayflash adapter! prices for the pad already started to rise, but luckily a couple of stores still had it for 30€. I will keep in mind to edit the .ini file for nintendont with those values

The paint job is different on the new controller, but the 2014 controller and adapter are identical to the 2018 ones. You've been able to use the WiiU adapter and any version GC controller on Switch since I think the 4.0 update, actually. It made sense for Nintendo to keep them the same for that reason, they already worked system wide. So if anyone needs them for WiiU yeah definitely get the new ones.

yeah, when i saw the different paint on the new ones i started having doubts and wanted to be sure they were identical. it's not just nintendo, even hori rereleased the same pokken tournament controller, just in a different colour.

i just received the adapter and tried those values, while it drastically improves the drifting, doesn't remove it for me, so i looked around and found this:

He's using a similiar setting from yours, except with 10 for the x value instead of 5. Just leaving this here as it appears there are some differences with various setups and the way nintendont recognizes these new controllers, so if anyone has problems can try both your values and the ones from SSBuug from that link. Until there is (if it is even planned) a new nintendont update, these are a good workaround
