Hi! I haven't been using my Nintendo Switch for a while and I just recently purchased Let's Go Pikachu so I had to update to 6.2 EU. I have now turned off internet on my Switch (still 6.2 EU).

I have managed to softmod my WiiU and load backups with external hdd and I am wondering whether this is now possible with the Switch? (ofc u would load from mSD card)

What "payloads" or software should I put in the mSD Card that would allow me to install (if necessary) CFW needed to load backups from same mSD card?

I see "RCM Payload" and "SX Installer". Are these the things needed to softmod your Switch? Or what is the process for softmodding your Switch?

Feel free to provide links to necessary threads with payloads and/or CFW needed to load backups and I'll check them out for instructions and all that.

Thanks in advance for the help! =) / RunkMunk.
There are no softmods available for the Switch. The currently available exploit is hard to categorize as a softmod or hardmod because it requires aspects of both but sufficive to say, you're going to need a hardmod to boot the Switch into RCM and a softmod to send payloads from a supporting device. All CFW are capable of loading backups but there is no definitive or best CFW at the moment. SX OS is the only paid for CFW and has a couple of exclusive features such as EmuNAND, .XCI loading from HDD, and their own cheat engine but other CFW are capable of playing backups, in .NSP or .XCI format as well. I will leave links to guides for the 3 major CFW that are currently available. They are all loaded using the same exploit so each guide will have similar instructions on the initial setup; the only difference will come in the files for the CFW itself.

It installs into the EmuNAND's internal memory which while the location of EmuNAND itself may vary, the effect is always the same. Remember that EmuNAND is just a copy of your SysNAND and your SysNAND is made up of 2 partitions; SYS and USER where USER is space for installing content. Installing to internal memory while in EmuNAND means you're installing content into EmuNAND's USER partition.

I recently bought a switch and luckily got an Unpatched one. It has OS version 4.01. I was wondering if I should update it to the latest version. I believe that is 6.02. Please advise

I recommend updating your firmware with the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX. It allows you to update your firmware without burning fuses. Fuses are what prevent your Switch from downgrading in the first place. ChoiDujourNX updates your firmware without burning fuses by enabling AutoRCM. AutoRCM AUTOmatically boots your Switch into RCM thus removing the need for a jig after its installed. The way it does that is by "soft bricking" the Switch however this is completely reversible. With AutoRCM on, you can only turn on the console with a payload since it will now automatically enter RCM whenever it is turned off. AutoRCM also causes the console to reboot back into RCM whenever it is turned off from Horizon aka CFW/OFW. To properly shut down a console with AutoRCM, you must turn it off from RCM. Acceptable options include a manual shutdown in RCM (holding power for 12 seconds) or sending Hekate as a payload and choosing the "Power Off" function.

Or you can just choose to not care about fuses thus preventing you from downgrading to a lower firmware in case a future exploit such as a hypothetical untethered coldboot hack is released and update your firmware normally.

Is the newest version of reinx capable of using layerdfs to use mods? Really want to undub puypuyo tetris and use mods in binding of isaac. But I love my reinx.

But what happens with my case? I mean, i dont care burning fuses, but since i hacked my switch the only way to update it is trought ChoiDujourNX, right? I mean, i cannot connect to internet and update it because i will be banned. Or do i need to fully restore my nand (process that also delete all the games instaled) and update trought the console after restoration?

Hi guys,

I have my SXOS up and running and ChoiDujourNX running in that, i want to update but have some questions.

1. What should i be updating to? 6.1 or 6.2?
2. Where on earth do i find the files to update?
3. I have emunand set up, when i update will it update this or my sysnand/ or will it do both?

This whole process has been a nightmare but you guys have been super helpful so thanks again to everyone thats provided assistance.

Hi!
Quick question: I'm gonna use Atmosphere on my switch with a 32gb sd card, but I wanna put a different sd card in a few days. Do I have to install everything again or how does that work?

Is it going to be possible to play Wii or WiiU games on the switch
Given that we can barely run Wii U games properly, not likely. Maybe Wii games in a couple of years like around the end of life for the Switch.

Should be as long as you have fs_mitm.kip enabled.

Well if you stay offline, you've kinda banned yourself in a way. Yes its a temporary ban that you can lift at any moment but updating your firmware offline with ChoiDujourNX doesn't make it safe for you to return back online. If you stay offline the entire time, then its alright as long as you restore the clean NAND prior to going online. But after that, not only will you have to make another clean NAND backup since you can't restore the same NAND twice (for banning purposes), there aren't that many options for updating without burning fuses. Best you can do is a reboot to RCM by inserting your jig and holding volume + after your console restarts when its finished installing the system update but the success rate of that depends on your jig. And if you do burn fuses, you have to make a new NAND backup anyways since the firmware of your previous NAND backup won't line up with the new fuse count.

Why on Earth would you want to factory reset your Switch?
Is it safe to allow a 'controller software update' if I am running CFW?
If your Joy-Con is modded to bridge pins 9 & 10 together, it is not safe to update. If your Joy-Con isn't modded, then it is safe. By the way, the update comes from the firmware, not from the Internet.

Are there any games or programs that can brick the switch?
Yes but they are not publicly available for good reason.

Just drag and drop everything from one SD card to another. The files aren't tied to the SD card :P

Does it not show any options after pressing +? If not, you can try checking in Data Management. If even that fails, Goldleaf can delete titles as well.
The Kosmos splash screen should only appear if you are using the autoboot option in Hekate.
ReiNX and Atmosphere are very similar. Also the ReiNX guide should have explained how you can add homebrew applications to your Switch. If not, reread the guide; it is very clearly explained if you read through the guide, not skimmed over it.
If you google .XCI splitters, a lot of results should pop up. I don't know which ones are better than others or if there is a "best" splitter.
No.
Yup.
Thanks Draxzelex. I've readed and used it easily. I just didn't think that it would be so easy like that hahahah

Regards.

wow so we can't restore the same nand twice or well get the hammer ? and what if I do a emunand (hidden) can i simply drag and drop the files to use another SD card or do i need some kind of emunand extractor tool

Think about it logically. If you were to restore the same NAND twice while online, don't you think Nintendo would notice? If say you generated a non-homebrew error code after you restored your NAND then you restore that same NAND again, the error code will be gone meaning Nintendo has proof you hacked your system because you can't remove the error code without hacking.

And if your EmuNAND partition is installed as a hidden partition on the micro SD card, you would need an EmuNAND extractor tool to not only extract it from the SD card but also something to inject it into another SD card which is not currently available (and may not be due to the controversial nature of SX OS).

So I pushed the Hekate payload on my switch and tried to launch Atmosphere by following this tutorial, but when I try to do it there's a message in yellow saying "No main configurations found...". So I went to Tools > Unset archive bit (all sd files)' but that option to unset archive doesn't appear (there are 2 to fix archive bit, I don't know if it's that, but I also tried them).
Is it a SD card problem? I've never had any problem with it before :(
