The guy in the private residence won't advance the quest until the player removes the heart fragment from him, and the option to remove his heart fragment doesn't appear if the player doesn't have space in their heart locket for his particular fragment. (I can't remember which piece he has.)

The total number of heart fragments available in the game is exact, so this shouldn't be a blocking issue. Just do other heart quests first and empty the locket. At 100% you would have an empty heart locket.
I remember now. He had an abundance of courage because he wanted to fight the sea monster even though he had a bad leg.

I guess if @John1234 wants to do those quests, he has to edit out the heart fragments in his locket.

I think the boy is Kindness because he brought up and took care of a monster all on his own or something.

I patched the game ROM, with the ARM7 patch, too, and ran it in an emulator. It works fine, but when I copied it to my SD card, my SC DSTwo doesn't see it.

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out. I'm dumb. Works fine now, can even close the shell/put it to sleep with no issues.

Clearly the MM is gorgeous and good enough, and really amazing quality and no offense intended, just quite a few very minor bugs in the Magic Master and whenever I find some I mail to anjira's PM. I'm not sure that is a good approach. I just hope she's not mad or anything.

I play the nnk on the ds fine (save for the sleep issue) on r4.
my gf is also addicted to nnk/ds so...
I wish to play on the (old) 3dsxl for which i need a compatible card that runs nnk.

Sorry for asking possibly dumb question, but i see 2 conflicting reports:
compatibility list points to "M3iZero on a new3DSXL" which would also include my old 3dsxl. However, the site http://www.r4ds-ds.com/categories/M3i-Zero/ clearly states "M3i Zero For Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi' - so not 3ds? Can anyone confirm if m3 runs nnk on 3ds please, and if so what did you do? Thanks in advance! I just want to be sure i wont have another useless card.. (an alternative would be to buy her a ds lite but finding one that is in an acceptable state is time consuming).

[small spoiler alert]
Also about the eggs: can we exchange eggs between 1 ds lite and 1 other 3ds? Has anyone tried?
[/small spoiler alert]

Speaking of eggs, there is no way to get hatch points if you are on your own, right? How do we edit that value. I only want to break them because I have 4 eggs that are blocking my inventory, and I think dream world has one egg (I don't really know what the egg npc is saying, but I think it means that it'll join you) and I can't get it.

according to the MM p.152, you get a point each time you break an egg. Break enough and you get to raise a rare imagen.

However when exchanging eggs between ds'es the imagen Eggs gain levels, for that you need 2+ handhelds.

Having said that, nothing is clear about the process, that's why I am intrigued by it. The whole petting/playing thing is also quite mysterious how exactly it works. Imagen produce hearts, but there is no quantifyable way to see their level, is there?

You get hatch points for trading eggs, and you can only break them when you have enough points. You start with zero, but all the eggs you get have a break point of 1, so they are basically stuck forever.

In Haven palace there's a researcher that asks questions about imagens in the Magic Master.
One of such answers should be "LOBSCISS" but it expects "LOBCISS" instead.

I am using a mac to patch this game so I am running xdelta with wine and have the patch, but do not have the ROM. I have the original game and would like to get the ROM from there, but I do not know how. If someone could help, that would be fantastic! Thanks!

You will need a dumper and some way to run homebrew. We have a guide on how to dump your own cartridges - it's a little old, but should be suitable.

Quest 084 is wrong. Description says East Desert, but actually the monster is in West desert. This cost me about an hour, and my gf as well.

just keep making a list of inverted east/west so it'll be fixed in next release. I can also add them to the first post as progress blocking bugs.
Maybe I should read past pages to see if there were more report about it? I skipped the quest related discussion to not be spoiled (I'm a really slow player, still at trial cave), but I can go back if needed unless someone else already keep track of them.

I don't think anyone mentioned them prior to just now. I didn't really see it as too much of an issue so I just left it alone. The thing that I would like to see fixed the most are the effects for weapons. Like a sword will say "resist faint" but it actually has a % chance to cause instant death. Maybe it resists death too, IDK. The piercing weapons? I have no idea if they work. They say they ignore defense, but when I use them, my DPS literally cuts in half. I would do more damage with nothing equipped than having one of those on. Some of the weapons say increase crit %, but only a few actually do, through my general testing. Like one weapon will sometimes crit 1/4 times, but the others that say they also increase rate don't seem to have any noticeable difference, and I never crit with them even after hitting 12 times. I really don't think this is an easy fix, because you'd have to basically review every weapon from scratch.

Dearest Anjiera and everyone who joined their hands together on this project to see it come to life,

HUGE THANK YOU!
I have been following this project's status for years, always wishing to see the day that I could play this gem on my DS. No words can express the gratitude I felt when you have finally released the patch.

Now, things weren't going so smoothly when I tried to apply it, as I was getting the (error -4) messages constantly. So I decided to write down what I did in order for it to work.

I am using a very old R4 card (R4 Revolution for DS (NDSL/NDS)), with a 1.0GB micro SD card:

The YSMENU fix did not work for me, so I have tried the following, which eventually worked:
1. Formatted my SD card using the maximal block size, as suggested by Anjiera on page 63.
2. Downloaded the most recent kernel files for my card, from old.r4wood website.
3. AP patched the Japanese rom using DS_SCENE ROM TOOL
4. Applied the ARM7 patch to the rom.
5. Run the game through the original kernel.

Everything works, from saving to sleep mode. No problems so far!
I hope that this will be useful to some of you guys, the same way I was trying the other methods suggested on this thread.

As a side note, I always felt grumpy that this title was not officially released on the DS or even the 3DS. I bought the PS3 version and started playing it, but it just doesn't have the same charming effects of the handheld. I even bought the English spellbook in hope that I will use it when I play the patched DS version :)
So, again, thank you for everyone involved in this project who made it possible!

I've tried this method but it did not work on my flashcart. I tried ninokuni v1.0, arm7, and retrogamefans patch, but I got error -4 constantly. I use R4 upgrade revolution DS with latest firmware v1.85b. However, the patched rom works fine on free ds for android emulator.

I will wait for the next patch release

Gamesystem: maybe the weapon effect is a text size constraint? or maybe it wasn't using any % in japanese and imply it was just an improvement and not a 100% effect?
just by curiosity, if you have time, could you look if the spanish (or japanese) version has the same problem?
Also, text might not match the weapon real effect, and it would need to test them in game, or look at recompiled sources to verify the effect are correct. like you said it's probably not easy.

Did you try only with YSMenu 7.0.6? or also other OS like Wood or the original R4 software? I suppose the firmware is not the software itself, just the firmware of the card.
the "R4 upgrade revolution for DS" is marked as working in the compatibility list.
I don't know which firmware and OS the user who reported it used, but said it finally worked by just patching using the arm7.

Hey there. Great thanks to team for awesome translation! Waited for this for 3 long years!
I have some questions thou:
1) Can i pick DLC quests for this game? Servers seem down, cant download using wi-fi. Is there a way to add them, hacking save file, like in DQ9, or other method?
2) Is DLC stuff translated?

I don't think it has to do with text size constraints. For example, when comparing Japanese translation with what it says in English for any of the items that increase or decrease HP/MP, they'll have something weird. Soldier's Step will say "Restores HP fully" but actually just raises max HP by 20 and Dark Blade will say "Restores HP fully when hit" but actually reduces max HP by 30%. I didn't check the translation for Dark Blade, but Soldier's Step just says raises max HP.
I guess it's not that big of a deal once you notice what's up with HP/MP raising / decreasing equipment. I'm sure that the effect weapons slightly off, but the point gets across. Again, way more trouble than it's worth in my opinion. I tried for like a whole hour trying to get stroke order correct for one character because OCR recognition wasn't working, and I gave up. I wouldn't want to put anyone through that, especially if everything is workable as is.
