You can play the xbox 360 any time. Depending on if your parents are paying for your degree, you only get the 1 chance. The degree will at least get you straight on the cash counter at mcdonalds

Don't worry about it. If you want to waste your time getting a masters and putting your like on hold, do it. If you want to get on with your life and see now things, give up now, buy a crap van and drive off somewhere. If you wanna just play video games and be done with it, watch Clerks and Clerks 2 and aim to reach that. If you're a young entrepreneur with plans, work out what needs to be done to implement them and do that.

Just do whatever makes you happiest.

i donno what Clerks and Clerks 2 is, but as i recall from the past, most difficult things at moments were best choices to do, thats why i'm persisting on not giving up the Masters.

I feel like i need enough to start in game dev and havent seen any ADs that they require Masters for it (maybe i'm lying to myself), and i think Masters is a step to get Ph.D. and if you dont get Ph.D. its kinda useless.

i really have no motivation to study for Masters, i dont say that i know enough already of software engineering but i think Masters is more for theoric people, correct me if i'm wrong.

If you're having that much trouble getting motivated to study for your Masters, then maybe you aren't enjoying what you're learning or you aren't really into what you're working for? You need a long term goal here, something that you really want that will keep you going... If this isn't what you really want to do then maybe you should rethink what you're working for even. Find something you enjoy - something productive (not video games, 99% of the time.) Because if you're not liking it now, I can't imagine you'll be exactly happy when you get a job that is involved in the thing you are studying for (I could be wrong.)

Why did you go for the Masters in the first place if you are not interested in completing it?

I studied Commerce at University and they asked me to apply to complete my Masters, I told them I wasn't interested as I felt the additional year studying wasn't going to add anything to my work application outside of University.

So in the end I only have a Bachelor's degree and it has suited me perfectly fine in my working life.

yeah but the more you grow, the less time and intrest you will have to play games, and i feel that whats left of time is not enough to get accepted so i thought maybe get my friend's 360 and play Airborn.

I haven't found this to be true. I had waaaaaaaay less time to play games in college than I did after I was in the working world. If free time and quality of life is so important to you then put the effort in now to make yourself really desirable to future employers, then when you hopefully get multiple job offers you can pick the one that offers the best quality of life. If you waste your education playing games now, you won't have those kind of options later.

Also, I think whenever a person finds themselves making these kinds of decisions they should really ask themselves. Is it really that I'm desperate to play these games or is it that I'm scared of trying to get my masters and want an easy way out. Make sure your being honest with yourself.

Finally, I guess software engineering is different where you are, but I have a lot of friends in the field in the US and the difference between a masters and a BFA tends to be about 20 thousand USD a year in additional pay. That's nothing to sneeze at.

No.

Qualifications are what will get a majority of people's foot in the door when they're gunning for that job they want. Most of the time you won't even be considered without that degree.

Of course you want experience also, but it is no means a replacement for the proper qualifications.
I'm PRETTY sure he was joking.

Thanks to all you guys for your caring and your time.

See, The education system here in Iran is different from most other places, the hardest part is getting accepted at entrance exam and finishing it is so easy and thats where i am, (as the topic title says too) i'm near end of my Bachelor at Software Engineering and the entrance exam for Masters is due in 3months and another one is in 6months.s

If you're having that much trouble getting motivated to study for your Masters, then maybe you aren't enjoying what you're learning or you aren't really into what you're working for? I'm most interested in Software Engineering and i worked in the field before.
one of problems is that i dont have a long term goal, my long term goal was to learn Japanese and apply for Japan to work in Game Dev over there and then I found its near impossible and I stopped even learning Japanese (also this entrance exam made me stop it too).
Another problem is lack of motivation, in anything. I was so eager to study Software like 4 years ago but now, i dont feel like being eager toward anything. (i think thats partially important)

Why did you go for the Masters in the first place if you are not interested in completing it?

As said before, I'm gonna get accepted at entrace so i havent started it yet.
So how do you think getting Masters would affect your job/quality of life?

even money cannot motive me, since my believes are not toward materials and stuff, so the amount of money i get is not that important for me, so getting 20,000 MORE is not that big for me, i prefer to work at a job i like and have a quiet life (As Miyamoto said that he would work even free at nintendo).

so difference between BS and MS is 20K ? how much does BS one get?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I shall thank you guys again for your time.

Personally I don't think I would be better off if I had my masters.

However I don't work in your industry and I also don't work in a major city in Australia like Sydney where the competition for jobs may be higher.

In saying all of that I'm now 4 years out of University and with my recent promotion I have been told that I'm now the highest paid Analyst working in our company. (A top 50 company on the Australian Stock Exchange)

What sort of thing gets you excited test84? what are you really interested in? If you pick something that you find very interesting as a career it's easy to get motivated...if you're doing something you find boring you'll always find it really hard.

Sounds like you like videogames and computers? do something in that area..there's heaps of stuff to pick from
