I`ve just upgraded to a Samsung Note 9. Pointless upgrade really.

Offered 17 yo daughter my Note 8... Immaculate. Still in the box etc... To replace her smashed iphone 6. (not an S). She turned it down. She doesn`t want a "droid" as the young ones call it.

She likes being in a locked down eco-system with no way to store files on her phone or distribute the ones you can easily. She also hates customization options and being able to swap keyboards and themes, I guess! Oh and don't even get her started on how much she hates expanding her storage by using a micro sd!

Eh, it's preference. Nice offer on your part but if she prefers iOS, then that's that.

I think a better thing to question is how kids take care of their stuff. Nowadays every other person has some £1000 phone with a cracked screen lol

I just can`t work it out. A decent phone vs a locked down piece of crap. I know I`m probably older than some people here but fk me... How can anyone live without a back button?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Sorry people... Needed to vent. Maybe "quality factor" isn`t important anymore. Seems like "sheep factor" nowadays. Tell you what... I had a iPhone 3g back in the day... 8gb version. No wallpaper without jailbreaking... WTF? No wifi tethering without jailbreaking... And now they slow your phone down without knowledge or consent to "save battery"... Jesus Christ...

Ungrateful little cowbag. On the bay it goes...

Exactly this. Amen reverend!

You're really getting worked up over nothing. If she prefers iPhones, maybe take the money from selling your old phone to fix her screen for her? It irritates me you'd call your daughter an "ungrateful little cowbag" just for having how own thoughts different to your own.

Honestly? It's no different than any other generation. There's always that one niche that comes with it. Unfortunately, for today's teens, it's mobile technology.

Nah. I love her just as I did from the day she was born. She is a wild one, believe me.

I`ll defend her till my last dying breath.

However, she is still an idiot.

Honestly, I don't see why people prefer iOS devices to Android. Apple products have always been overpriced garbage if you ask me.
I can`t work it out either.

Lets see... I`ve replaced that screen on that thing 7 f**king times this year! 7. I can`t quite believe it but she has had 7 screens on that thing.

I`m not turning this into a bitchfest, because she is my daughter and I love her. Even when she is bringing coppers to the door. However, she is moderately successful and polite / well brought up. Ish. Doesn`t mean she has a brain though. And yes she is reading these messages. She has an account here. Bloody kids.

More of a "moanfest". No-one else here to moan to. Everyone else gone to bed / doesn`t give a toss.

Off my chest now. Hope she sees the light one day...

Sorry if I had a daughter who broke her phone screen more than twice I would refuse to have it fixed until she learnt to take proper care of her shit.

Android phones are generally better but they tend to slow down over time. And there's just loads of satisfaction in jailbreaking an iOS device.

Most iOS apps let you go back to the previous screen by swiping from the left side of the screen. Despite the fact I prefer Android I still have an iPhone, because my parents got me one.

Your daughter probably refused because she's afraid she'll get picked on on school for not having the latest iphone. It actually happened to my younger sister. She had a cheap clamshell phone (despite it being 2016), then my Mum's old iPhone 3Gs, and then an iPhone 6s. Her school is full of rich bitches who find every excuse to pick on people unless they're the kind that like to throw away money. Think about that before calling your daughter a "cowbag" and putting "Are kids just not too bright" in the thread title.

Apart from themes I couldn't see a 17 year old girl caring about any of that

Honestly your daughters situation is nonsensical.

But to all the people bashing on iPhone. The thing about this locked down ecosystem is that it’s extremely simplistic and accessible by everyone. It’s also easy to share with people and backup in the Apple OS family. Everything is straight forward and right there. iMessage and FaceTime are the only things keeping me here. Half the androids don’t even have back buttons anymore, follow the same notch design Apple pushed, you can’t even swap the battery on a Samsung anymore, and your Snapchat app doesn’t even close the shutter on your camera.

To the first comment, what is a 17 year old gonna do with moving the files on her phone?

It overall comes down to the operating system and what the person is comfortable with.

I do agree though that making iOS so simple to use, people are becoming less knowledgeable in a way of what can truly be done with this hardware.

Don't mind me, but if you come to the internet complaining that your daughter is "not too bright", maybe there is a communication issue here at least?

Either way, there is a social pressure to use Apple crap in certain circles, being a teenage girl, I can see that at play. And that kind of brand peer pressure has been around for ages.

Complaining I do. And communication issues? Too bloody right! To be honest, I`m glad I do. I`d throttle the little sod otherwise. I was shown her institsgram the other day. I needed a lie down and I was questioning my abilities as a father the whole evening...

I just think the less I know about these things, the better. I don`t even have a Facebook account. Actually, tell a lie, I did make one. But I had no friends on it and now I can`t even remember the passwords to log in to it...

Yeah. Right.
Just like I offer a modded PS4 with all games, modded 3DS, Wii U, Switch, SNES Mini and PS2 with the only downfall being no online play... But instead they would rather keep their OFW PS4 with the only game they own: Fortnite.

Just like developers offer more options and more customization for their own work space and environment in computers, when people would rather phones in general which usually lack basic explorers and shells, basic functionality a computer holds simply because people don't want options. People want things done for them and even more, people don't really LIKE things... They just like being APART of things and following what they feel is most interesting and these days being very wise is apparently not what is most interesting...

EDIT: Forgot an important part. It's not "Kids". It's EVERYONE. Even "Kids" grow up to be the same.
