gbatemp_game_of_the_year_2018_b.jpg

And so we have reached the penultimate voting thread to collect our favorite games from this past year. We've voted on the best PlayStation game; God of War. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate steamrolled the Nintendo competition by simply existing. And as of the latest thread, our lovely members have decided on the Ni no Kuni DS fan-translation being their favorite romhack project of the year! With that, let's find our last nominee within the category of the best Xbox/PC games of 2018!

GBAtemp Official Review Scores

Any specific reason as to why Red Dead Redemption 2 isn't on this list?

As far as I remember the Xbox version is the best looking one and the only one that runs at 4k resolution.

Just ignore it - this poll is a joke this year... I voted for Soul Calibur VI on PC/Xbox because it wasn't available to vote for on the PS4 poll (and neither were any of the other PS4 games I bought this year).

Holy **** I just had to check it, many titles I played on PC are only on the PS4 poll hahah

Well done, Temp.

I voted for dead cells. It's a bit of a gamble, as I've yet to play into the breach and return of the obra din (or anything else on the list, for that matter...but the others I don't care much about). But in all honestly: dead cells is a very good game. Much more than I expected, and I expected it to be at least decent. :)

Well, I didn't play Dead Cells on PC or Xbox, but the Switch version is Godly. I do am a Motion Twin fanboy (I still have my DSi Alphabounce game on my 3DS), so I might be a little biased.

Because RDR2 already had its representation on the prior list?
Whoever put Cross code on the list:
Thank you!

I know that game won't win it but giving smaller releases some attention is great.
That was basically my goal in this. No repeats so every game gets its time to shine a little bit. They'll all lose in the end, but really, this is just for people to discuss what games they had their most fun with, not a hardcore serious vote to the death.

Then why not just one poll with all the releases on it?
It's totally unrepresentative to mix and match games/systems on a personal whim... and still miss releases. Tempest 4000 was one of my favourite releases of the year and yet wasn't on any of the lists.

Splitting them in more recent years seems to have gotten far more positive reception in general. Large polls also had people focus only on the major games, too. Some games will admittedly fall through the cracks, we're not omnipresent. I'm open to hearing what could be bettered for next year's list, but just saying the poll is junk helps no one. Keeping a singular poll looks clunky and ends up limiting discussion, while multiple polls gives a wider variety, end up with more varied posts about games, yet lead to a mix-matched list. I don't see any reason in listing RDR2 twice over--what if it won both categories and thus two versions of RDR2 end up against each other in the end? This is a non serious thing for fun and for people to talk. It doesn't have to be mega serious and have strict rulesets.

I understand the challenge, but found it extremely annoying that literally all of the titles I'd bought for PS4 this year were missed off the list for that system and only one of them found it's way onto another list (this list, which I wouldn't ordinarily even look at as I've not bought any Xbox/PC games this year).
Perhaps next year there should be a separate poll for multi-plat releases, allowing console exclusives to shine... what would be even better would be separate categories for each genre per system (limited to a short list of titles within those genres).

I thought about multiplatform, and I like the idea of it, but there's far, far more of those than exclusives. Splitting it between genres seems like a good compromise, though! That way there's lots of options for everyone to pick and discuss, but not all clumped together in a mess! I'll definitely think about that one next year.

Hmmm, the only way a Best PC/Xbox category would work was if say a 'Best multiplatform' category was put in: I can see why Red Dead 2 wasn't included as it isn't on PC, but why would I vote for it in the PS4 category when I played it on my Xbox One X? ...Kinda matters not: I thought it was disappointing anyway (when compared to Redemption 1) so wouldn't vote for it anyway...
Speaking of lolz, who the fukkin hell decided Fallout 76 was worthy of inclusion?! Hah!

I actually voted for Dragon Quest XI in the PS4 category, despite me getting it on the PC (further proof it's a bit borked on here this year) and would've probably picked Spiderman otherwise.
