Hello peeps,

I had two random shutdowns on my o3ds (with CFW, 2nd latest luma3ds and firmware update) today and I wonder why.

All Google results are pointing towards a certain battery glitch which causes shutdowns by a) pressing certain areas around the buttons b) hits on 3ds and c) by closing/opening 3ds.

But no matter what I do, I can't replicate the glitch by all of these things.

Is it a dying battery/system or a glitch caused by a CFW app?

It's not a glitch caused by the CFW nor the entry point used. Have you tried another battery to test if the battery was faulty?
There could be several problems from loose hardware to battery problems, but the only way to properly diagnose the problem is for someone to actually open it up.

I don't have a 2nd battery to compare but it seems most likely to be the problem.

The 3ds was all night long plugged to the charger but still haven't gained the last bar.

Question is, can I still play like that or should I wait for the new battery...

Ich rufe Sie an, @KleinesSinchen. Did you ever figured out a way in convincing Nintendo of Europe to sell their battery?

Do you have any close by 3DS buddies with either o3DS or o2DS who are willing to let you borrow their battery for testing? If not, looks like it's straight to battery shopping. Avoid buying a generic battery if possible. If you do get a generic, check if the mAh capacity is similar to the original.

In case Nintendo of Europe is stingy to you, too.

The 3ds was all night long plugged to the charger but still haven't gained the last bar.
Here are some tall tale signs of a failing or dead battery:
  • inability to be fully charged
  • instant shut off despite battery life indicator stating ample juice
  • bloated, expanded, or swollen battery :!:Dangerous. Discontinue usage and remove from device.
Question is, can I still play like that or should I wait for the new battery...
While you wait for the new battery to arrive, you can play with the 3DS plugged in with the AC charger.
Just don't play unplugged in case it turns off in the middle of the game or while saving.

Sorry, no good news. I would sooner have success in convincing my teapot to sell a battery. They do not give an inch: "Send in the console!" and "We do not sell batteries!". They changed their bad site to become even worse. It’s colorful, uses a bunch of third party domains for scripts and I don’t find anything besides ads (in the sense: their own products) and contact information. There is a new “My Nintendo” shop that sells all sort of merchandising and bulls… but no spare parts.

Not being able to find it, I can’t link what I saw months ago somewhere (not a quote, similar): „Aufgrund geringer Nachfrage haben wir den Verkauf von Ersatzteilen eingestellt.” (Because of low demand we stopped selling spare parts.) Some parts could be ordered though (stylus, charging cradle and the complete Wii U gamepad and some more). Don’t ask me why??

@MaladroitJoypad
I second @TurdPooCharger ’s idea. First borrow a battery if possible to see if there are any other issues. If you are sure it’s the battery:
  • You can try calling Nintendo: 069-66105 900 it is a normal number (Frankfurt am Main) no expensive garbage number. Maybe something changes if more people get on their nerves about batteries.
  • Or send the battery in (with a non-hacked unit, only god knows what they will do, or charge you if you send it in with Luma). The service is about 8€, afaik with the battery, but you have to pay shipping both ways. All in all not much more than the above amazon links.
  • Or just risk buying a third party battery, if Nintendo does not want your money. Have an eye on the cheap battery if inflates early. Other than that… you have not much to lose.

Hm, alright. I don't know any people with a 3ds xl or new 3ds xl... Only one is my cousine with normal o3ds.

I got two local shops which might sell original batteries, gotta look for it.

As long as I can play plugged I'm happy, I assume I would notice a swollen battery?

Edit: thanks for help guys!

Oh, yours is a old 3DS XL?

Battery models
  • SPR-003 : o3DSXL, n3DSXL.
  • CTR-003 : o3DS, o2DS, n2DSXL, n3DS*
    • * Will fit in n3DS battery compartment. Requires paper wedging. [1]
  • KTR-003 : n3DS

If you buy locally, get a kitchen scale to check against counterfeits. [2]

Open with a small phillips screwdriver and take a look if the battery is swollen. About disposal. [3]

Guess u screwed these days as 3ds user, local stores replaced everything with switch stuff, who would have thought...

2nd hand shops doesn't believe anymore in selling electronic/console stuff, sad times.

Why did I even bother...

Edit: Can't find any reliable product myself... Lol, might need your help guys. Looking for 3ds xl battery/SPR-003 is showing results of batteries with different stats, like 3.7-4.5V or 1700-2500mAh

Unless it's those extended battery with replaceable back cover making your 3DS bulkier, anything stating more than 1800 mAh is bullshitting you.

First pick: Cellonic

Second:
Cameron Sino

* Third: Nintendo

Why is a real Nintendo battery last place? Including shipping nearly doubles the cost versus 3rd party options. Without knowing how old their batch is and whether it's authentic Nintendo, you're better off with the first two (2)in a price trade-off gambit.

Edit - If there are other reputable German/European e-retailers that have better prices and options, don't limit yourself to only Amazon.

While you can't be sure there will be no problems with warranty claim if you get a bad cell (never know how seller/manufacturer react), I would pick the first one because they say:
Celltronic amazon offer said:
★ 3 Jahre Garantie ★
Three years is not bad for a battery.

There are no really good alternatives to Amazon in Germany. *Shame* Nothing that comes even close to having so many different items from all categories. Ebay looks less trustworthy with batteries, but that is my personal opinion.

We have Mediamarkt/Saturn: "3DS battery? No. Sooooo old. Want to buy a Switch? Not? How about an Iphone?" They don't even sort their website. I mean look at this (old) category Wii/WiiU consoles: https://www.mediamarkt.de/de/category/_nintendo-wiiu-wii-konsolen-464553.html *facepalm*

But you can get the first item a little cheaper. The seller on Amazon Marketplace is "subtel". You can buy directly there:
https://www.subtel.de/Akku-fuer-Nintendo-3DS-XL-SPR-003-1800mAh-Ersatzakku-919067.html
9,95€ + 2,95€ shipping.

Edit: I will try this out and ordered both, a SPR-003 and a CTR-003 at subtel.

I ordered a SPR-003 and got a -001 instead, what now?
Edit: seems to be normal, but just want to be sure and on the save site
You mean they sent you the wrong battery? Then you will have to contact them. Mine did not arrive yet, but the GLS website says it should today (soon™).
Explain this a little more. Is it the correct size? ***-001 is always a Nintendo console. SPR-001 would be O3DSXL.

SPR-003 : o3DSXL, n3DSXL

Thats what got me confused a little. It seems to be that SPR-003 is the original batt and the SPR-001 is the replacement. If you click on the amazon link and take a look on the pictures, the battery offered is a -001 but the title says replacement for -003.

Or just a typo of Poo, idk.

The old battery is around 37g (cant guarantee its accuracy). New one is charging right now. Just from having both in hands, Id say the new battery is slightly heavier.
