It's a premium experience. I know you're regretting some life choices when you can't afford $30, and I'm really feeling very sorry for you. But you really do get what you pay for, hun.
Yeah sure, you can convince yourself that. I sure you feel your game run faster, the graphic go up and your family love you more because you pay a little money for "premium" stuff but true is it still the same as regular stuff made in China.

Let me know when you've got EmuNAND, USB HDD support, and XCI loading.

Oh shoot.

You don't?

But what if it's not worth $30? Think about it. Atmosphere is now getting all the important features first (like 6.2.0 support). The majority of SX OS' selling points are invalid except for USB HDD support and MAYBE EmuNAND. And free CFW actually has things that SX OS still doesn't have. Kip Loading and decent homebrew support are two examples.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

This is coming from someone who once had SX OS btw. (Felt like I needed to point that out)

Here's the thing, though: all the atmosphere features are open source and trivial for TX to implement. But the free solutions can't just lift code from TX in reverse; there's still no EmuNAND, still no USB loading, still no XCI loading. The paid, closed source, solution is always going to have an advantage here.

Yeah. EmuNAND is coming soon to Atmosphere (and will likely be a better implementation than SX OS), USB Loading will probably come soon also (although no confirmation when or who's gonna make it) but XCI Loading will never come to free CFW (but that's basically an obsolete format anyway).

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also if it's so "trivial" how come it took almost a week for TX to copy and paste Atmosphere's 6.2.0 support code?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

If SX OS truly had an advantage I'd happily move back. But the fact is that they don't. And they're only going to trail further and further behind in the future.

The 6.2 security changes compromised TX's DRM, so they needed to secure their code from scratch. Which is completely fair. And XCI and NSP are a single byte difference, but XCI can be loaded without needing to install, which is an advantage tbh. And is without XCI mounting, USB Loading would be pointless, tbh.

And in what way would you propose Atmosphere's EmuNAND would be better? TX implemented three different choices for user preferences, all three work great.

Exactly how is TX behind when they've got myriad exclusive features?

Maybe the fact that the EmuNAND in the actual "NAND" isn't a hackjob? I mean they didn't say they've changed anything in the code for the NAND to not make it a hackjob anymore. Also the Emutendo folder is a MASSIVE redflag and Nintendo could start mass banning when they want. I want Atmosphere to make it so you can name your own folder or have it randomly generated.

Why are you playing online though? Are you an idiot?

Which no they don't. They only have like 3 exclusive features at this point. One of them (XCI loading) is completely obsolete at this point (due to it being bigger and taking longer to load than NSPs). So I'll count that out. So you have 2 exclusive features one of which is going to get implemented into Atmosphere soon. Atmosphere also has features that aren't in SX OS. So may I ask you was it worth $30?

What? That's not what I'm talking about. Nintendo can easily scan through SD Cards and see the Emutendo folder and start mass banning.

But why are you connecting to Nintendo's servers?

And XCI's aren't any bigger than NSP's, and they don't require installing.

I'm not sure if you're just... behind, or...? Please educate yourself.

Hahaha let me point out the obvious to you one by one.

1. You don't necessarily need to be connected to Nintendo's servers to get a ban. Emutendo folder (like I explained) is a massive redflag and if Nintendo sees it they can start mass banning at anytime. You likely don't need to be connected to the internet for this to happen.

2. Yes they are. It's proven they are. Want me to actually do comparisons?

For me it‘s not about the money - I love playing around with my consoles and unlocking them to their full potential. Even if it takes hours - sometimes I get the feeling I enjoy more hacking it then playing a game :P

Your argument sounds like playground

"I don't care about your emunand, our emunand is going to be better. nah nah nah"

How can you know that usb loading will probably come when you have no idea who/when/if someone is going to make it?

XCI isn't obsolete, it only feels like that because so much of the TX hating has been targeted at it. Of course all the TX haters now can't implement XCI, because they would have to admit that they were just salty.

The irony is that someone implemented XCI for atmosphere that loads of people would switch to it and it would seriously affect TX profits. People who slag off XCI are helping TX profits.

I enjoy Atmosphere most for its modularity. I'm mainly using my hacked Switch for Retroarch at the moment. Running backups is less of a priority for me, but I can do that anyway with sigpatches when I want to. I think the implementation of this CFW is extremely impressive.

ReiNX exchanges some modularity for ease of use and I was using this before Atmosphere. It worked well for me and required minimal setup.

Something about TX really puts me off supporting their CFW personally (probably the notion that they take open-source code and repackage it for sale. Oh and the brick code debacle), but that doesn't change the fact that end-users seem to really like it. If you want backups, it's a good way to go. I worry that some features have been rushed out of the door but I've never used it so I'm only going by other people's comments, and they do seem to update their CFW often to fix problems and add popular features.

Ok let me go off them one by one:

1. Atmosphere's implementation I said will LIKELY be better. Mainly because more time has been invested into it and he would have developers helping him (as the code is open-source).

2. Because it's a feature that many people do want. Storing NSPs on an external HDD or playing media from a external HDD would be great. It may not happen now or maybe not even early 2019. But it will certainly happen sometime in the near future.

3. If it wasn't for the USB HDD feature it would be. Installing NSPs is easier than ever and once it's installed it's quicker and more convenient to access. XCIs will never get implemented into Atmosphere/Reinx because it's flat out illegal (yes the method TX used to get XCIs is illegal. Honestly not surprised).

4. That would never happen but you'd probably be right. As many people don't want to switch.

Depends really.

People have already posted the features and caveats of each one, just choose the one that fits your needs.

I stick with physical cartridges, so atmosphere is fine for me, but the others are good as well.

There will always be bias on your own personal preference, there is no factual best, only the best suited for your personal needs.
I don't know why there is a need to argue about this. It's like choosing between starter Pokemon.

This is a dumb argument. There are so many homebrew related things they could scan for - literally any nro, xci or nsp file, boot.dat, nand backup stuff, keys.dat, any part of the atmosphere folder structure. They could probably check the partition table of the SD card for a "true" emunand partition too. They've never done this with the 3DS and I doubt they ever will because it would be way too easy to trigger false positives. Random person puts a folder called emutendo on their SD card for whatever reason, banned.

I'm sorry but who in the right mind would put an "Emutendo" folder if they aren't hacking?
