A Japanese Wii I have bought doesn’t allow me to access the settings, instead bringing up an opera error.

The homebrew channel is not installed and obviously I can’t add an internet connection.

What options do I have to fix this if any?

Thanks!

Ok so update. Managed to get mac address from save file. Got the specific letterbomb.zip and clicked the red letter in the message centre.

just freezes and does nothing. Tried out of curiosity the 4.3e option and tried again. Got further this time to the scam screen. But the press 1 option never appears even after 10 minutes.

I don't understand what's going on with this Wii, it's definitley a Japanese model as on the label it says JPN. But maybe someone has tried screwing with the region settings at some point and it's corrupted somehow? Since the 4.3e works further than the 4.3J.

Can I do anything or should I just admit defeat? The SD is 2GB and fat32.

What does the Semi-brick look like?
If you can't access the menu, buy a game that contains system updates.

The semi brick is an opera browser error when trying to access the settings

4.3 is the latest, yes.
In some instances, the Wii just decides to update even though on 4.3. This is probably because of a subbed IOS.
First, check if Priiloader is installed by holding the RESET button on startup.

Looks like it isn't installed sadly.

Ahh, the classic one...
This couldn't be caused by any incorrect update. The Wii must've been modified before.
Again, hold the RESET button and check if a menu comes up.
If that doesn't work, try using MultiModManager https://mega.nz/#!9BQ3QSgK!wTEzbuX52uFJNxA2mzzlrHvQp6z_dMEWWiRM_FOIfqc and use devKitPro's .dol to .elf converter. This will give you access to a WAD manager which allows you to recover 4.3J.

Edit: devKitPro doesn't come with 'doltool', use an old version of Waninkoko's WAD Manager instead, with the risk of breaking your Wii even more. https://mega.nz/#!hRZEUAzZ!0JDvzqGjINNcAVOnUNSdmN-2Ds57nDV5KH3bi9Ap4E4

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Don’t I need the homebrew channel for that?

Thanks

Also holding the reset definitely doesn’t bring up a menu.

Nope. The installer basicly gets replaced with a different homebrew app. You can later install the Homebrew Channel after the Wii is unbricked.

Oh i see what you mean. Ok i'll give that a try and report back. Thanks for your help!

Just to confirm, I need to locate the wad file of system menu 4.3j?

thanks again

Ok managed to get the elf running after downloading the 4.3j wad from nus downloader.

Had to use the 4.3e letterbomb zip as thats the only one that loads the elf. Tried installing the wad and got error ret=-1035

I have no idea what to try next. Hope you can help!

If u are still having any kind of issues with the hackmii installer use Modmii's hackmii solutions guide

Otherwise use Modmii's main wizard to hack your wii and reinstall the system menu in the process

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Yeah I’m still struggling. The wad method didn’t seem to work. I’m interested in what you recommended though, how would I access the modmii wizard?

Thanks

Just download and install ModMii on windows (stickied in this forum, or easy to find with a quick Google). Then run the wizard(s) I mentioned, it will ask u some basic questions and based on your answers create a custom guide for u complete with videos and step by step instructions on what to do, it will also grab all the files u need and help you put it on your sd card.

One of the steps will be to install wads, but it will work because of the other steps in the guide that you would've skipped if you are currently receiving errors
