What is the best controller for Smash Ultimate? We have lots of different options to choose from. Right now I'm using the Switch Pro Controller because it is comfortable and already in my living room. Competitive players will always go with a GameCube controller. I'm tempted to buy one but don't take the game seriously enough to spend the time it takes to find a good one.
Back when Brawl was the latest title I always used the GameCube controller because the Classic Controller sucked while the Wii Remote + Nunchuck and sideways Wii Remote options were downright awful. With Sm4sh I always used the GameCube controller because I didn't like the GameCube controller shaped Classic Controllers and refused to try the Wii U Pro Controller or GamePad.
So for those who do not play this game for love or money what do you think the best controller is assuming there are no budget restrictions?
EDIT:
The Pro Controller does have more input lag than the GameCube controller. Casual players probably wont notice an extra 5-7 milliseconds of lag. If you're playing competitively you should go with a GameCube controller.

You might know they usually go between say 0 (top dead centre) and 256 (fully one direction), however if you have ever touched analogue electronics you will know it is very far from stable. To that end most controllers have a "dead zone" where it is assumed nothing is happening despite what the electronics say. If this dead zone, or the electronics covering it all, is a bit floaty and means something may happen a few frames either side of a better example of the same controller* then your frame precise timings (which some advances smash brothers techniques appear to require) may be thrown off.
*Gamecube controllers apparently being prone to this, hence smash brothers peeps seeking certain controllers, testing large numbers of them to find good ones or having a debate on whether a device to effect a better controller here, though still within parameters seen in the wild, counts as cheating.
