Is there an agreed upon way to inject a .sav into the eShop VC version of Pokemon Crystal? I want to transfer my pokes to the pokebank.
  1. Launch the Pokemon Crystal VBC VC. Make a dummy character named DERP and save it.
    • Edit 1 - It doesn't have to be DERP... I just use DERP for every random placeholder name.
  2. Exit the game, backup the save with Checkpoint also as DERP, and turn off the 3DS.
  3. In the sdmc:/3ds/Checkpoint/saves/0x01728 Pokémon Crystal/ folder, make a copy of the DERP subfolder and rename as BORTZ.
You're going to do some hex editing. Use HxD if you don't have a preference.

4. In the BORTZ folder, put your actual 32.0 KB Pokemon Crystal *.sav file in there. Open both the sav.dat and personal *.sav files in HxD.

5. For both files, scroll down all the way to the bottom. Compare their file sizes. On the *.sav file, delete everything in block 8010–802F and save the file.
  • pkmn-crystal-GBC-VC-save-edit.png
  • File size between *.dat and *.sav have to match. It should be 0x8010 in total bytes.
  • If there's a *.sav.bak, delete this backup file.

6. Delete the current sav.dat and rename the edited *.sav file as the new sav.dat.

7. Launch Checkpoint and restore the BORTZ profile.

8. Check if all your pokemans are safe and sound.
As for going from GBC VC back to desktop emulator, I haven't determined if that deleted block makes the process irreversible.

Edit 2 - SooOo, to go back from GBC VC to desktop emulator.

9. Rename the sav.dat<name of pokemon crystal rom>.sav
Edit 3 - To go back from desktop emulator to GBC VC again.

10. Repeat deleting the re-added block from step 5, renaming *.sav → *.dat, and restoring with Checkpoint.

well if you mean this a9lh Uhm... I had it and changed it to something else... B9.. Something when Luma 3ds dropped a9lh. So if that is the cfw then I have it
great that flashcard was originally blocked by nintendo (on release day) so we need another app to boot it . . .
[DS(i)/3DS] TWiLight Menu++/DSiMenu++/SRLoader - DS(i) Menu replacement this app is feature rich and can boot your flashcard (as well as play nds roms directly from your 3ds's sd card)
WoodR4Launcher.rar . . . this is a older (and simpler to setup) app . . . it has (only) 1 function to boot your r4

Thanks, I'll get back to you if I have any questions. Sep 8 seems like the most important step :P

So, i have a N3DSXL with gateway, and got tired of waiting. I'm finally going to install CFW using the 3ds guide.

So i have 2 questions:
1- How do u guys put the games into the N3DS XL? U do open the back everytime u want to put a game into it?
If theres another mode, how?

2- With the CFW installed and updated, will i still be able to use the red gateway card with .3ds games in it?

Sorry bout my english, thanks in advance.

You will be putting data files on the sd from settings and connecting to a pc.

With Cfw in place. you wont be able to use gateway on anything over 11.2. You wont want to as gateway is highly outdated as it is. You can convert the saves and games to cias during the cfw process.

Hmmmm... You mean, like this?

Ohhh, i get it! I completely forgot about the 11.2 FW. Thank you, very much, man! =D

Ok, i have a new question:
1- I have a few retail (physical cartridge) games in here, even with CFW, can i play them online with friends with no worries?

2- I do have a retail smash bros cartridge, but i don't have the DLCs. Can i install (via CIA) the DLCs and play them with friends online? Or do you think this might be too "dangerous"?

Thanks again.

Do any flashcarts for ds games work with the 3ds?I have a 3ds with luma, but want to play ds and gba games too
They pretty much all do. You should feel accomplished if you manage to track down one that doesn't work :-) The only DS flashcart that will play GBA games, though, is the DSTwo, however you can install injected GBA cias to your console since you have CFW.

It should do, yes. As long as you can find working firmware files for it. If buying from a random person rather than a store, try to only get one that says it has a microSD and is currently working for that person (so you know it has the right firmware files). You can make your life even easier by only picking a card that is compatible with Wood firmware, too.

I was not able to install it either, after following the instructions for flashcards step by step I put the r4 in my old 3ds and nothing happened. Its like nothing is inserted at all, can't do anything

You want to get to what option? The only thing I was able to find about 022-2452 are related to setting your device to devmode.
Do you mean Luma options? Did you toggle “Set developer UNITINFO”? If you did, just hold “Select” while booting and remove this.
