Very strange.. maybe there is something in paid version of drastic that doesn't like the game.. I was using a free version when I tried.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I'd say look up drastic English could find it on Aptoide it's the version I was using when I tested things.

I'm not certain that's the case, but I'll try look for those modded Drastic and test it on a different mobile device. But odd if it work on my other device, as the one I'm using for the paid version is way more powerful than the other one I'll try on.

Lol the tablet im on is so old and shitty that i was surprised it didn't explode when I tried to run the game, tested out the first 10-15 minutes of it though with the modded drastic from the quote and it ran smoothly before I decided to move over to running it on my 3ds with twilight/nds-bootstrap (which is running smoothly as well)

Should be able to find the "drastic English" version pretty easy, I tested it with version 2.5.0.4a of the modded drastic.

Yup, found that modded version. Will see if it works on that. It'll be a roll eyes moment if it works on that older Drastic on a shitty phone.

Update:

Guess what?. It's really a holy shit moment.... it really works on that modded 2.5.0.4a on a less than powerful older mobile phone.
Goes to show newer phone + paid app don't necessarily means good quality. LOL
In any case, Thank you so much. Now I don't need to rely on the NDSL to play this game.

Haha well glad you got it working and it's not a problem at all :D I didnt test a whole lot with the modded drastic, so I can't say if youll run into any issues at some point, but for what I did test things ran pretty smooth with the modded drastic.

But this is really ridiculous, the same rom still can't load on the v.2.5.1.2a build 98, despite matching the configurations. But it's ok, a glitch or bug should be expected when using rom and emulator.

Who knows why it won't load on that version, possibly the dev messed something up on the paid app, or the modded version has some change in it that's not in the paid version, could be numerous things between the two on why the modded older version runs the game while the more up to date paid version doesn't.

Working good on TWiLight Menu++

Just a question, was this translated from zero or based on the spanish translation?
Translation was from Japanese to English, but the ROM hacker from the Spanish team, and some of the graphics files (esp. scans of the Magic Master, and PSD layouts for all of the pages of the Magic Master) were provided by them, too, which made our job consiserably easier.

I created a shitpile of project management files to keep track of our project progress because when I first started we just had a wall of files and folders and not a good sense of where we were at. I'm a visual person and I like lists and checkboxes and color coded (green for done, yellow for started, red for not yet started) planning spreadsheets. I think that helped motivate me in the early days and definitely made it easier to coordinate the larger team size as we grew the group over time, since people could put their name on tasks and we could see if a file or an area of the game was in neednof or done translation, editing, and graphics work.

The tools @pleonex has created for working with the game are all excellent, and I send people working on other language versions to his GitHub page to check out the tools because they are just so handy! :)

The game does not start even in the Japanese version, unpatched :(. I use the drastic emulator on the android, I click on the start game, for a second it loads and crash, goes to the main menu. Someone had such a case?

Im trying to load it on my old CycloDS. It works, but every time I try to save ingame I get an error: data could not be saved, please reinsert the game card and turn of power.

I can save all other games, including the japanese verion of ni no kuni. I patched the exact same japanese rom version to english and it didnt work.

A .sav file is made on the sd card but somehow it wont save. Any ideas?

Just to let you all know i used the arm7 patch with original Japanese rom and it worked on r4i gold pro 2016 and latest paid drastic. Also some are confused, the arm7 patch includes the translation. Don't use both patches.

It's understandable if people think to use the ARM7 patch and then the translation patch. Because there's little to no info about it containing both. And unless the person have used a tool to unpack an NDS rom before, they won't have a clue how big an ARM7 or ARM9 bin files are - which is a little over 100KB each. In fact I'm one of them who had overlooked the fact that the ARM7 patch file is ridiculously big to realize it actually contains both ARM7 and translation patch, until I was pointed out about it.

In any case, I still can't get it to run on my latest paid Drastic on a much better phone despite using the same rom that was able to run on an older modded Drastic version on a lesser phone spec. But it's ok, as long as 1 phone can play it, I'm good.

I think there's a high chance the (J) rom you got is corrupted. Best you redownload the file from either the same source or other source. The (J) rom should work without even AP patching on Drastic. If even the (J) rom doesn't work, then needless to say the fan-trans patched rom made using that (J) rom won't load either.

maybe it has to do with the version of android. I'm using the first Samsung Tab S with android 6.0

That could very well be the issue he has been facing, though I only have 1 android device so I can't really test that theory, and I don't have the paid version of drastic either as I was using a modded version. But I'm using an off brand tablet (visual land PE8QI) thats on Android 5.1.1 .. so maybe it is more to do with the Android version and less to do with the version of drastic be it modded or not.

I'm using the latest paid Drastic v.2.5.1.2a build 98 on a Samsung Tab S 8.4" LTE - Android v.6.0.1. Which I think should be the same as yours. The rom is patched with that ARM7 provided in the MF link several pages back, and tested working on modded Drastic v.2.5.0.4a with Haier running Android v.6.0.1 also, as well on my NDSL YSMENU and WOOD R4. The difference between the 2 phone would be the processor and ram, the Haier is less powerful. But it refuses to load on the S, kept force closing no matter what config changes I made. Not sure why. I've even made sure no save file present.

Edit:
I've also tried using rom patched with just the translation file, without the ARM7. Same result. I'm mostly curious why it's not running, not really needing to play on it as I've the other means to play it.

Yes, have tried that also. It could be something trivial, such as a config not activated or not deactivated.
btw I do have the same tab s 8.4
I used these instructions to patch the game
1. Get an original Japanese ROM (MD5 checksum is f0e3027b9e97618732b4f2d4298ad0cf) , make a copy into a temp folder
2. Put both .xdelta files from their original posts to the same folder
3. Download XdeltaUI (http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/) & extract it there too
4. Run XdeltaUI, select arm7.xdelta in the first prompt, an original ROM in the second & your desired output file (i.e. 'Ni No Kuni.nds')
5. Click the 'Patch' button & wait till the job is done.
6. Repeat step 4, but now in first promit you should select the English_banner.xdelta & as the output from the step 4 as a source ROM.

Yup. I did exactly all that, and use the tool as linked.
