Stardew Valley's online multiplayer patch for the Nintendo Switch lands later this week

If you've been looking to settle in for Winter break and play some co-op games with your friends on the Nintendo Switch, Stardew Valley has you covered. The best-selling indie farming sim will soon get its online co-op patch on December 12th, which will let you start up a farm with up to 3 other players, locally, or online so long as they've all got Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions for the latter option. For the loner farmers, a few extra additions have been made to the single player campaign as well, ranging from a Winter Night Market to putting hats on your horses. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players are still waiting on the co-op patch, which is scheduled to hit sometime next year, while PC players have had this content since earlier this Summer.

what about local multiplayer?
edit: AWESOME

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

This is one of the games I play with my daughters and so far they have to take turns and that slows down progress since they like to play on their own save file. lol Terraria is their previous favorite game.

What the hell is this game's END game?
Two things are considered by the community to be endings for the game:
Fully restoring the Community Centre, and getting Joja kicked out of town, or at the start of Year 3 when Grandpa reviews your farm.
Of course, those are both spoilers for parts of the game, so the real ending is whenever you feel like stopping, since Stardew does repeat forever.

Any idea what system firmware is required to run this game with new upcoming update? I'm thinking it'll be 6.1 or above?
Likely either 6.1 or maybe even 6.2, since it only got out of QA this month. Just guessing though - 6.0 bare minimum, since it uses the Switch Online features.

I don't think so. Requiring 2 consoles can hardly be called local co-op. In any case I have two switches.

Local co-op can sometimes still be defined as needing two consoles. It is using a non-online local connection from two systems communicating directly with each other. PSP games and 3ds games that require two consoles are still local if the game doesn't use online. For instance, Monster Hunter on PSP or Pokemon Trading before online trading was a thing.

Can any other Stardew Valley versions play multiplayer with one copy and console?

"Multiplayer is an optional game mode in which 1–4 players can play in the same world over LAN or the Internet. Each player needs their own copy of the game (split-screen isn't supported), but GOG and Steam players can crossplay with each other. The player who created the world has the save file, can launch it in multiplayer mode, and can switch back to single-player anytime."

I assume it would be the same for the switch
