I am just checking some things as I used Letterbomb to hack my Wii and the used d2x cIOS to update 249 and 250 and my Wii plays games fine on USBLoaderGX from hard drive etc.

but I noticed when playing with this Modmii, that when creating the basic hack from scratch, that it has a lot of WAD files it makes. are those WAD files strictly installed so it wipes out any potential junk from the past that someone may have had on their Wii? ; I also see this 'IOS236-v5-Mod' in the apps folder etc and I see Priiloader is v0.7 where as what I am currently using, is v0.8.2. any reason the Priiloader included with Modmii v6.4.9 is a older version?

but to get to my main point... do I even need to update anything if my system seems fine at the moment?

here is my SysCheckHDE log...

You can load your syscheck using ModMii and it will tell you if anything is out of date. You certainly don't have extra brick protection in place but as long as you aren't downgrading or region changing you shouldn't really need it. Your cios 249 and 250 don't have version numbers so there may be an opportunity for some improvements there but if it ain't broke...

You can load your syscheck using ModMii and it will tell you if anything is out of date.

It took me a little while but I figured it out as to check the csv file you got to go to 'ModMii Classic Mode for more activities' then run the 'SU' command and guide it to the location of your .csv file etc. but here is a screenshot...

SysCheck.jpg

anything of any real importance there I need?

You certainly don't have extra brick protection in place but as long as you aren't downgrading or region changing you shouldn't really need it.

The only real brick protection is boot2, correct? ; which only one of the two Wii's I have has that option and I already backed up the NAND on both of my Wii's with the nand.bin/keys.bin on both Wii's.

so outside of boot2, which most Wii's don't have, Priiloader is about the best you can do as far as brick protection, correct? ; which I heard offers very little brick protection in general but it's better than nothing.

Your cios 249 and 250 don't have version numbers so there may be an opportunity for some improvements

I basically used d2x cIOS v3.1 and flashed the v10 beta52 in offline mod as I had to have a couple of WAD files (i.e. IOS56-64-v5661.wad and IOS57-64-v5918.wad (which I downloaded through NUS Downloader v1.9)) in the root of the SD card for it to flash the 249/250. I assume this would be the newest stuff? ; or are you saying it's possible I could still be using outdated 249/250?

thanks for the info.

Yes it's under ModMii Classic, but you can just open any syscheck csv with ModMii or modmii skin and it will just start doing its thing.

There is extra brick protection built into ModMii above and beyond bootmii and priiloader, but it guards against downgrading a new wii (lu64+) and against upgrading a region changed Korean wii. If you don't do either of these things, or if the console is old and/or was not initially korean then installing this extra protection is not necessary. As good practice modmii just does it in all cases since it doesn't hurt anything to have it installed. That being said I think there's an option to disable it if you don't want ModMii to make these recommendations for whatever reason.

Your syscheck does have version numbers for 249 and 250, so either I just missed it before or you edited your post, either way what you have is fine.

Long story short, you can follow ModMii's syscheck guide if you want, but what you have now is absolutely fine. No need to take further action.

But I wonder why the ModMii guide wants me to install IOS236 etc because I never did any of that as all I did about a month ago now was basically...

the Wii menu is v4.3, on a stock system(at least I am assuming they were(I formatted the system memory etc from Wii menu)), then I used the Letterbomb website to download the needed file and put it on SD card and let it do it's thing which installs The Homebrew Channel and then I did the BootMii install right after that Homebrew Channel install and then basically installed Priiloader v0.8.2 and then used d2x cIOS v3.1 to install 249/250 (like you have already seen with v10 beta52) and then setup some basic apps like USBLoaderGX/Nintendont etc. I did the NAND backup at some point in there to but I can't say at exactly which point I did it (but I imagine it does not matter much since my system is in good running order) and I have it so when I power on the Wii it boots directly into USBLoaderGX and I have the USBLoaderGX channel on the main Wii system menu to which I had to install a WAD file for that using "YAWMM_EN".

but I guess at the end of the day... you said I am fine as is, so I should be good as I am just assuming your more of a expert on these things given you make ModMii etc.

thanks for your time and for the quick replies. everyone seems to be pretty cool around here given the little time I have been here so far.

p.s. in case you missed it I took a screenshot of ModMii with the csv file in my previous post.

With Nintendo shutting down the Wii Database rendering NUS downloaded useless, Is ModMii still going to be supported with some sort of Wii Database backup? or is ModMii going to be rendered useless also?

well if u get new modmii it has downloads for all ios needed by homebrew and etc if this happens
just set up modmii for which prepacked file set you want and bam u have your own database
if they shutdown there are plenty of wads and u can dump a newer game lots of places to get them

If u retry the download does it fix itself?

No, continuing to retry still gave me the same INVALID for USBLoaderGX. In fact I was working on 3 different Wii's last night with 3 different SD cards and the same error was displayed. Each time I setup one of the SD cards I started a new launch of ModMii and each time the same error.

Now USBLoaderGX was located on my SD cards inside the APPS folder with the 3 files inside, but it was late and I didn't have time to run any tests to see if it was working or not, I just got each of the 3 past the NAND Backup and called it a night so I'll pick up at installing the WADs on each next.

I figure no biggie, I can just put GX onto the SD card myself if it doesn't work, but I thought you should know of the error being displayed, notification that "something didn't download or was invalid" once the downloads ended, so I scrolled down to the bottom of the on-screen log to find "1 of 69(or so) file did not download or was invalid", then scrolling back up through everything I found it was "USBLoaderGX: INVALID".

Maybe I should test and take the temp folders for ModMii on my computer and rename then and try the download again to see if a complete fresh download of all files still gives the error? Maybe there's a conflict with files already sitting on my computer that it's checking to see if it has to be downloaded or if it's already existing?

Hey XFlak is there a way to contact you outside of gbatemp? I'm not very active around here so i guess i'm not allowed to DM users yet.
I'm working on a website that is supposed to make it really easy for users to install Project M: http://ssbpm.info/
And i'm seeking your advice / recommendations on guide decisions, exploit methods etc. because i know due to ModMii (excellent software) you have a lot of experience with softmodding.
I won't ask you to do a lot of stuff, just a few questions so i can make the guides as idiot-proof as possible.
If you have Discord, you can add me under waffeln#0001, or join the projects Discord: https://discord.gg/yCDQ8Jb

I wanted to update the softmod of my family's old wii that runs 4.2E with an old version of wiiflow without any trouble.
I just wanted to know why staying on 4.2E is recommended, shouldn't I update with ModMii to 4.3E?
Then also why FAT32 is considered the best file system? The dedicated hdd i use is NTFS and works great!
Thanks in advance

4.3 gives u nothing over 4.2 (or 4. 1 for that matter). So no point in changing from 4.2, since each time you change your system menu version there is possibly some (minimal) risk involved which can be avoided by remaining on the same system menu version.

Fat32 works with everything homebrew related (sneek, hbc, etc) whereas ntfs will only work for some applications and not all.

Thanks for clarifying that!

So I understand now why FAT32 is the preferable file system of the HDD (I guess then it also makes it possible to run gamecube games from the hdd?), but I just wondered what kind of specific configuration is taking place, behind the scenes, when you choose NTFS for example?
.. Like does that mean that the chosen USB Loader will only be able to work with HDDs formatted in that filesystem or is it still able to read both NTFS and FAT32?
Which one of the USB Loaders also work for Game Cube ISOs?

Just a question out of curiosity, wouldn't the WBFS file system be the fastest one since it's tailored explicitly for the Wii?

Thanks a lot!

The loaders are able to read the NTFS format as the FAT 32 for wii games, but an external hard drive in NTFS does not play gamecube games.

An external hard drive format in WBFS, with a corrupt game ==> can corrupt all your external hard drive.==> that's why the WBFS format is no longer offered

Hi all,
i am trying to rehack my wii using xflak splendid Modmii.
I follow the created guide and everything goes fine until i reach the section: 5.Install Priiloader.
There after i install the Priiloader 236 Mod and everything goes fine i cannot enter it to enable the recommended hacks.

The instructions says to power off wii and then power it on holding the button reset until i see the priiloader menu.
Well i do this and i kept pressing the power button for 1 minute but the priiloader menu is not showing. Wii just stays in the bootmii screen (the one where you can backup restore nand e.t.c.)
Then i realized that i had not removed or renamed the nand backup files although the excellent guide clearly stated that i should move or rename them (Bootmii folder + nand.bin+keys.bin)

So i backed them in another disk and renamed them on the SD card.
Yet the problem persists but now although i keep the button pressed it stays in the start wii screen (press A to continue) and after a while it enters the menu
.
So i decided to do again all the steps after the nand backup and below.
The problem persists.Priiloader is not showing no matter what.So i stopped there until i find a solution.

What am i doing wrong or what can i do?

If any nice person could give me a heads up i would be much obliged.

Thank you in advance.

Regards.

You answered your own question (see bolded text above).

Tap the power button once, then hold the reset button

Just before entering cinema with my 7 old year daughter which for her i am reviving my wii (well i admit i will play too) i thought that i might was pressing the wrong button.

Two hours of a rather boring movie (although i enjoy most kid movies this was not good for me but my daughter liked it much) "Marry Poppins returns" were not passing and i was full of anxiety to return home to see if the wrong button was the error and correct my post before i become embarrassed to xflak ,other coders and on internet in general only to see it was too late. (hopefully my daughter won't know :) )

Now everything is ok. The xflak's code and tutorial is so superb that only a noob like me can avoid completing it due to silly faults that cannot be covered by the most perfect guides.

Only remains for me to do the "After modding your Wii" section.
I have not much hope that i will not have any other silly question...

Already one but i will have to read tomorrow how to resolve it as i think i am not lazy, but i will post anyway here untill then:
-wiflow ,usbloadergx and configurable usb loader do not exist inside homebrew channel only in the start sceen and when i load them wii resets.I though they would be installed as so i picked in modmii options. But if i have to reinstall them should i put them in the sd/apps folder or in the fat32 disk/apps folder? (this is what i picked in modmii)
Since they exists in the Fat32 disk /apps folder i presume that the disk is not recognized by wii. I will check on that by trying a usb stick which i know my wii sees it to see if the problem persists...

Excuse my lame English.

Thank you xflak.
Happy New Year to you ,your family and the other people in here.

Regards.
