Joker is a waste of spot.
Sure he may be cool since any character in Super Smash Bros. is cool or whatever but come on... Name a Pesona game that came out on Nintendo consoles and was serious. Maybe I just haven't done my research but seriously... If this is going to be about what's popular and what's selling well despite the platform and developers, etc. then the next DLC characters should be Steve from Minecraft, "Call of Duty dude" and IDK, but you get my point. I honestly feel like Sub-Zero has a bigger chance on being in Super Smash Bros. despite the conflicting content Nintendo doesn't want in their games. But at least Mortal Kombat has it's fair shine on Nintendo. My point is, Sub-Zero has a 0% chance. Persona should have a -100% chance. XD IDC if you like the series but I just feel like if you think this was a good idea, then you think Steve is, too then. I really can not see the difference. Someone please enlighten me.

Now I know it is a similar situation to Snake, Cloud and MAYBE Ryu/Ken and Richter/Simon.
I feel like Snake is really hard to justify. He really never came on out a Nintendo console and seriously... IDK who asked for him anyway. The only justification he has is 1: a personal one in which if the insanely talented designers of Metal Gear Solid were not working under shitty Konami, it actually would probably be on Nintendo as well as the rest and sell just as beautifully. And 2: Just like all of the rest, I guess the innovative Metal Gear Solid series is a landmark/icon in the popular video game series... But it is hard to JUST on this because, again... Steve, Call of Duty dude and some Master chief. :wtf: certainly none in which belong in Super Smash Bros. and none can argue.
For Cloud it is the same. Landmark/icon in popular video game industry. JUST like Steve. XD

But yeah. Back to the point. What do you guys think? He's probably a loved character in Persona but the recent entries in the series weren't on any Nintendo console and I honestly don't see Persona being "LANDMARKED". Not even as what is called a "JRPG". I look at Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy and such being LANDMARKED. EVEN AS a "JRPG" or whatever. Certainly not Persona. Maybe today it is a landmark, maybe yesterday as well... But really? For DECADES AND DECADES it is a landmark? Yeah it was on the PS2 but I feel like the earlier entries were more obscure than the later. Aside from the fans who absolutely HAIL this game from the heavens since the birth of Persona, I think more people had their PS2 to play many other games instead. Maybe not their PS4. And maybe it got a bunch of attention on PS3... But when a game blows up on PS4, I think it does not deserve "Landmark" just yet since it is too new. Similar to Shovel Knight. But at least Nintendo knew not to make him a PLAYABLE CHARACTER. An Assist Trophy is like "Honorable mention+" to me. Kafei would be an Assist Trophy while Link would be a fighter. See my point? But at least Shovel Knight came out on Nintendo consoles, multiple at that. I'm sure you guys would see differently.

If you really love Persona, the hype would probably cloud the points I am making or maybe you see them as not making sense? Either way, what do you guys think? I really want someone to explain how Persona characters being in Super Smash Bros. is very different than Steve from Minecraft being there. But Steve is far more popular even on Nintendo consoles than anyone from Persona. so why not Steve? I think that is obvious why not. But apparently it is not obvious from Nintendo?
I would rather have seen more "Nintendo" faces than Call of Duty dude who profits more on NOT Nintendo consoles and who only had very few entries on Nintendo consoles. And if you want to talk about going down the Metal Gear Solid path, then at least get "Landmarked" characters if it is not going to be owned by Nintendo or exclusive to Nintendo. Look at Ryu and Ken. I don't think anyone can argue they belong their. Except they are both CAPCOM and CAPCOM releases everyone on every console and ports it 400 times. xD What do you guys think? And what could make my points more valid? And what do you think can shoot my points down? Let's discuss it. :]

FUN FACT: I also felt the same about Ridley and Inkling when they launched the first trailer. They SPECIFICALLY said "I hope you did not expect many newcomers, we put more effort into bringing back all of the original characters." When they said that I was like "So we only get 2 new characters? That's cool but Ridley does not belong as a character despite what people want and Splatoon is a good selling Nintendo game.... That will become 99% obsolete when the online services end." ._. 2 very odd choices. If there was only TWO spots they should be picked more reasonably and be a bit more special. But then they announced their were more characters so it was definitely justified.

P.S.: Landmarked means, to me, a very familiar face. I can ask anyone and they know the person or something. And I don't mean Landmarked because it just came out and has so much steam and attention. Landmarked meaning it has really been fresh and kicking for a very long time. I do not feel Persona is that series that, before the PS3, anyone could really say it is landmarked or they heard of it from any corner or block.

EDIT: Just did a tiny bit more research and found out Persona is a spinoff of Shin Megami Tensei which is huge on Nintendo consoles. IF this is true then my argument basically rests... XD I still would love you guys' opinions.

OMG!! DX I skipped it thinking Kojima dudes were just like "Yeahhhh. That was our first... We kind of uh... got a more concrete Metal Gear now." Well thanks for the information. Which Snake exactly is in that game? (Aside from being off topic of course... >_>)

Yeah I know SOME Metal Gears game out on Nintendo, especially I remember the Gamecube. But come on.... All of the games were eventually remastered/remade on non-Nintendo exclusively basically... xD Snake isn't really the focus and I don't think Snake really counts as "Redeemable because it APPEARS on a Nintendo console..."
What's next, Harry Mason from the Silent Hill Series? XD <3 ... NO! Of course not.

I don't have a Switch but I wondered how all those Brawl mods work. I know about Project M, but I have seen that Ryu and countless characters showed up in Brawl mods. Can somebody explain to me how that works? Can you choose which characters you want to have in the mod? There is sth called Smash Bros Unleashed and Smash Bros Infinite, but even after reading using search engines, I don't get it.

Let's say I want Ryu. Which mod features him? I even read there is a mod that has Guile and Dhalsim.

Joker is DLC. The butt hurt people who don't think he belongs can just not buy him and that's that.

As far as I'm concerned, the more characters the merrier. They already have plenty of characters I don't care about, never hurts to have more.

Different strokes for different folks, but as someone who likes Persona 5, I'm pretty ecstatic for Joker being the first DLC character.

Not the place to ask and definitely more time to answer than worth it. I recommend you Google more. I also do not even understand what you are trying to do here? Just find out how things work? How far exactly? And are you trying to get mods and how to get mods? Etc.? Either way... Not the place/thread to ask...

The entire post reads as an "I'm not happy about these choices" which is a fine opinion but I would spend more time focused about your thoughts rather than assuming/dismissing the thoughts of others. I think Joker is a cool addition to the game. I do not think Minecraft or Call of Duty would be cool despite your assumptions. From design and game play, I think there is a lot you can do with Joker since they he can effectively use any demon in SMT for attacks. Think similar to how so many of Mega Man's attacks come straight from the Robot Masters he gets his weapons from.

I enjoy these outside-the-box character choices as long as the care and detail continues to be put in on them. On the flipside, I understand wanting more Nintendo characters as well. It's why I got excited when I first saw the "Challenger Approaching" screen going back to Smash 64! What if it had X character will always be a conversation around Smash Bros because of how carefully they handle and introduce characters into the roster.

Yeah it's true. Not the most excited about the choice of Joker. And no, I do NOT think Call of Duty dude or Steve are good characters for Super Smash Bros. BUT I DO KNOW if they were, somehow, in the game they would be just as useful and just as much effort would be put into making them fit and be fun for the game no matter what. I know this already. I do not base the characters off of "Which character has the best attacks and would work the best in the game." It makes sense to base it off of this but come on, at this point? Isabelle and many others? Obviously how well they fit "Fighting-wise" does not improve their decision. So I do not look at how well a character fits. Heck. We can say X character fits in PERFECTLY since X has X attack and could X this and would be a perfect X Final Smash... It really does not change the fact that instead of that X character anyone could name, we got Isabelle and others who we know they just had to get creative to make work instead of other characters who obviously have better chemistry of the game. My point is yeah. "From design and game play" I am sure everyone has noticed by now but so many characters in the game currently wouldn't fit both by "Design" AND "Game play".... Yet Sakurai and his team forced those characters to be just as great gameplay and design wise as the other. So, again, basing which characters should be in Super Smash Bros. by "Design" and "Game Play" doesn't seem to work well very much so I base it on other things such as how long the game/series has been around for, does Nintendo own the franchise or own/partnered with a company that owns it? Is it a land mark game like Sonic the Hedgehog, etc. Finally I am not dismissing others thoughts. I KNOW people like Joker. Why else would he be a loved character of Persona? (I honestly do not know. I am assuming he is loved.) Just like I LOVE Darth Maul and would LOVE to see him in the game and he fits perfectly but "Design" wise AND "Game play" wise... But we both know this will never happen for obvious reasons.

"X is a waste of a spot" yeah because you already know how the character will perform in battle.

How the character "Performs in battle" is absolutely not what would determine if a character is a waste of spot or not. XD Everyone already knows no matter which characters they put it, all characters will perform balanced, tested and well-made in battle. It is their job to make the game fun no matter which decisions were made and, no one can disagree, they are great at their job. It's about the FACE that makes a character a waste...
Example: For the new Super Smash Bros. we have only 2 spots for new characters.
Many people will pick Skull Kid, many people will pick Crash Bandicoot.
But no. Instead Sakurai and team decide to go with Stick Man..... What? XDD Sure no matter what they decide it will be fun and they have my money... But seriously? Imagine that one slot being picked Stick Man because some random team member's random daughter draws stick men for fun in school or something. It's like what? That is absolutely horrible... Despite how fun it will be to play as. That would indeed be a waste of a slot. If we are going to have fun regardless since the developers always make the game and characters fun, then at least give us a nice face to work with whether it's familiar, original or whatever. Do you see my point?

(Probably not...)

I feel like Snake is really hard to justify. He really never came on out a Nintendo console and seriously...

Metal Gear on NES... Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes on GameCube... Metal Gear Solid 3 on 3DS...

Cloud was never on a Nintendo console besides Final Fantasy Theatrhythm but I haven't seen anyone complain about him.

Besides Joker in Smash is most likely a huge hint that Persona 5 is going to be ported to the Switch since the Switch is selling like Hotcakes, Atlus might want in and port it. I mean Joker DID appear as a main character in Persona Q2... which other than the cartoony artstyle still has a "M" rating.
