hey guys, can anyone confirm the cleanest point to back up nand and if theres any advantage/disadvantage between SX backup and hetake

For example when in the sx os bootmenu, before running cfw, or autorcm, is this the ideal way to back up nand?

Or should I only inject a hetake payload to boot nand?

Im hoping to have emu on sd to play smash online on ofw and family games offline in emu

Since Hekate was the first tool to dump the NAND as well as the only tool to verify the dump, it stands to reason that Hekate makes the "cleanest" NAND.

That makes sense . I thought SX was similar to apple in that they take whats out there and improve on it so they might be better, but from my lurking around here And knowing you are THE guy for good information hetake it is

Last Question, every now and then i see xci is safer Than nsp, with emunand it doesn’t matter because Nintendo can’t see what we do there right?

And just out of curiosity are xci actually better than nsp? I think I saw one time here they are the same

If you are using EmuNAND, then it doesn't matter whether you use .XCI or .NSP as EmuNAND and SysNAND don't share anything between them that would flag SysNAND for a ban.

And now that .XCI files can be loaded straight from the HDD unlike .NSP files and can be prepackaged with all updates and DLC into a single file, its debatable which one is truly "superior"

This issue hit me as well. Not only does replacing boot0/boot1 not work regardless of where I get it, even creating a completely new emuNAND doesn't work as I detailed here. They really should have updated their release notes to tell people that it's incompatible with 6x at the moment and, of course, a way to move it back to sysNAND since apparently even those who got it to work found it to be buggy.

The good news is that my emuNAND will probably work whenever they fix it. The bad news is that I neglected to make a backup of my NAND right before doing this so the only way for me to play backups is to not only roll back to 2.0.1, but create a new emuNAND on sysNAND and then using Checkpoint to restore them in. Not ideal.

Another issue with their new emuNAND is that you can only create a 32 GB one (no option for smaller or larger), but cannot expand an existing emuNAND to 32 GB. In all likelihood, I will probably end up using a second emuNAND and then will have to use checkpoint to backup my saves and restore to the old emuNAND and then if they don't implement a way to expand the emuNAND I will have to create yet another emuNAND, and use checkpoint to move all the saves over. Ugh. They really made a mess of this.

1. Create emunand
2. Try to boot > this fails
3. Backup boot 0/1 with SXOS launcher (You can click options to only backup boot 0/1)
4. Replace emunand boot 0/1 with the backup.
5. Boot emunand :)

I just tried this and it doesn't work for me. It doesn't matter if I get these files from a new NAND dump, an old NAND dump, or from creating a new emuNAND. It also doesn't matter if these files are placed in my old 15 GB emuNAND created in SX OS 2.0.1 or in the new 32 GB emuNAND created in SX OS 2.3.

OFW and CFW both at 6.0.1

will there be two separate saves from sysnand and the emunand? whats the point then if you cant go online with a modified save? for example. id like to trade shinies to my boy and not havin to rely on local play.

I had your same issue.
I replaced those files many times, and from different backup sources, without succeeding.
Then I tried formatting my SD card (always to exfat) and only at the third try it worked (it means I formatted it three times, moving in and out all the files on it not to lose them).
It took some time of my day and it was a little random, but it worked in the end.

You can have the same game on both sys and emunand. That means two different save files.
You can use your Emunand to play games you don't own and your sysnand to play online with legit games.

Weird! Why would a reformat make any difference!? I doubt I would have any more time to spend on this until after final exams, so hopefully they will have it fixed by then. otherwise I guess I will give that a try.

Since it sounds like you got through, I wonder if everything worked for you. How was the speed compared to the on sysNAND emuNAND they had before?

Also: Is there a simple way to identify which folders in the Nintendo folder are associated with what game? With the folders decoupled into the Emutendo folder, I wonder now how game updates made in the sysNAND could be transferred to emuNAND. I mean, sure, obviously we would just rename Nintendo to Emutendo initially, but afterwards?

I don't know... It's totally random I think. lol
I didn't notice any difference in terms of speed.
And I think there's no way to identify specific files inside the Nintendo folder.

Weird... I also read about someone who got it to work after using a repair utility. huh. Well, I have several microSD cards so I could just try coping the files from one to another to see if it makes a difference.

Good to hear that it's full speed though, but sucks about the Nintendo folder. I was hoping that, with emuNAND moved out of the sysNAND it would be safer to go online and download game updates in the official NAND to the microSD card and then move that content to the emuNAND directory. That way I could download updates officially without taking the CFW online. I was also hoping some tool existed that could package an nsp file from the SD card for later installation in case a Switch ever breaks, so I could backup everything - not just saves.

This is what I did to get emuNAND on my Switch and it has been working fine on 6.1 on both NANDs.

1. Backup saves via Checkpoint
2. Reformat Switch entirely
3. Create emuNAND in SXOS options
4. Boot sysNAND and reformat the Switch again to unlink NANDs
5. Create NAND backup in SXOS options

See if that works for you guys.

It's not necessary to unlink nands like in the 3DS since the emunand uses the emutendo folder and sysnand uses the nintendo folder.

This is the best setup atm. Emunand always in stealth mode or completely offline. Fat32 is also recommended to forget about the exfat corruption problems.

No, old emunand on the nand is not better than sd emunand. New SD emunand is the way to go. Exfat corruption is not frequent but when it happens it's a pain and with emunand on the same card I wouldn't risk it but is up to you. You can do frequent backups and that way still be good on exfat. No biggie.
