I... There's local wireless in the option. It's written white on black (or black on blue, if you really want to go there). If it isn't there, then it's coming in a patch.

Edit: How is LAN and Local Wireless different? It's also called "Local Wireless" in MK8 Deluxe.

Apparently in MK8 Deluxe, there's a secret key combo that changes Wireless Play to LAN Play, which enables you to connect to a LAN network.
But as for Smash Ultimate, no one has found the key combo to enable LAN mode.

But apparently, there is this KIP called ldn_mitm.kip that converts Adhoc to Wi-fi and makes it possible to play online in games that don't have LAN mode.
So I guess the best thing we can do is to wait for ldn_mitm.kip to support Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, or wait for someone to find the key combo to enable LAN mode?

Super smash ultimate will be re'ed to check for hidden lan mode code/ buttton press,

Also as stated above there is a kip in development that allows wireless play games to with with switch lan play.
This means that Monster Hunter Generation Ultimate will have the possibility to have Multiplayer LAN?

The kip stuff seems pretty cool, I had no idea that's what they were doing with Diablo. That gives me some hope for smash bros, and all games really. I'll still get the online for my legit switch but it sure would be cool to have another way to play online.

I have an awesome question... will this .kip be ported to other games or can it be used for every game that has wireless play?
I think each kip file has to be individually programmed for each game. There's a switch-lan-play tool that's being worked on to get it to work via WiFi tunneled through a local computer

Poorly and with input lag. Hurray!

This really isn't a game people will enjoy with these hacked together solutions.
Considering it wasn't meant for lan over wan? It's not because it's a "hacked together solution". A game like Smash just isn't meant for online play.

The solutions for online play for Melee have been pretty extensive. Its safe to say with a fiber connection and using the FasterMelee build of dolphin, Netplay is definitely a viable learning tool. I just mention it because it does a lot of impressive things on a technical level :)

They've been tuned over the years and only because Melee was the go-to for competitive Smash. Even then, there's still input lag. :O

Yeah theres still a bit. With my setup, if I play someone within 200km or so, I get around 3 frames of lag (including my monitor). Luckily theres a big local scene for it here with CRTs. Anyways I feel like its getting off topic. It's exciting to see a LAN play solution begin for the Switch :)

No argument from me. :) I wonder if this even invokes any form of netcode or if its just button relays, would certainly explain its volatility.

Dolphin (and some other) devs build their own netcode though, and that took a long ass time. Just loading in a hacked together package to get a connection-like LAN isn't going to be nearly as pleasant.

I am Real and I have started a discord with another member called Seekie.

As you all know, switch-lan-play was released so we came up with an idea.

We are working on a tournament discord where we host them using LAN-play for people with both CFW and none.
We host these often on our private Nintournaments LAN server, easily connected to via Switch LAN Play.
We also offer LFG for other people using Switch LAN Play.

We will provide tournaments and local play for Super Smash Bro Ultimate, Splatoon 2, MK8, ARMS and more!

Thanks, real
