So I bought an Seagate Backup Plus Portable 5 TB STDR5000200

Just wondering if I might run into issues. Since update 2.21 larger drives should be supported.

Anyone here running 4 or 5 TB SELF POWERED drives connected to switch?

I assume because you say 8TB that you mean an 3.5 inch externally powered drive.
Seems you have the same Seagate drive as me, only in blue!
It works with SX OS?

Any external drive size should work fine within the latest 2 sxos updates. Im using an external 8TB Desktop Seagate expansion for both my Switch and jailbroken PS4

It seems not many care to read carefully.. I understand that Big drive support is added with the last SXOS updates you are right.
But as I have clearly stated every post (eventhough i edited it in after the first couple post)

Please state wether this is an EXTERNAL POWERED or SELF POWERED device.

The point of this topic is. I never use my Switch in docked mode. So I need an HD for portable gaming mode.
And I need to find out the max size that is compatible with that. Technically any size should work, yes.

But realisticly. there may be different power requirements as to having bigger harddrives. This is why I ask if anyone has had experience with 2.5 inch self powered HDD devices with SX OS and the switch. Because while externally powered harddrives may work fine. Self powered devices of high storage capacity are perhaps a whole other story?
Or it may not.. Thats what im trying to find out here.

Self powered as in plugin into the wall outlet? Yes we can read, but it doesn't hurt to actually research on the devices we are telling you that works :) Fact of the matter here is that most 3.0 drives are self powered anyway the capacity size shouldn't have any impact on that. Things get abit more dicey with portable play with a HDD b/c then you need to have it connected directly to the Switch's bottom USB-C port at all times definitely wont be a pleasing experience to say the least might aswell go SD card for better portability

With self powered I mean. powered by the USB port of the switch.
And no it doesn't hurt at all to mention what works. Just feels like, people think they are helping, and other people think im then helped, and then I don't end up getting the info I actually need you see..

I disagree it's not an issue at all to have a HD connected in portable mode.
Sure microSD would be better. But then you'd have to sacrifice space. Which is not want I want.
I find space more important then a drive i will stick to the switch, or lay on a table next to me as I play.

Yes my 8TB Seagate plugs into a wall and runs just fine in dock mode. Before the massive update most ppl were using self powered 2TB drives with Y cables I don't see why a 5TB wouldn't work the same way
