How do you block the move? I swear it's near impossible for me since I'm a casual player. Even basic shielding just doesn't work for me it goes right through it as a grab. Literally struggle against Ridley when it's spammed...

Here is how:
Step one: Git gud .

I would like to think that but some characters literally are crippled because they just don't have the attacks to mitigate it. I'm supposing it needs perfectly timed shielding to be countered, something I've achieved like once after hours of playing, lmao.

It's actually not that hard.

Make sure when you're being approached to spam the Git Gud button.

I'm guessing the git gud button is the power button on the switch
You need to practice using the dodge if you don't have a character who can jump it fast enough, I was terrible at using the shield/dodge to start with but some of the situations in the adventure mode basically require it.

Also git gud.

I figured out dodging downwards is the best way to do it. I always dodge to the side which usually just drags me in anyways and my timing is bad. Guess I'll have to "Git gud"

Btw, if you can't dodge it (the move where he grabs you and drags you all the way across the ground, then launches you at the end) it's possible to break out of it mid-drag. I literally just did it

To answer your question though, block & tilt your thumbstick down. That'll let you sidestep, and he'll run right past you. Your timing has to be immaculate tho

short hop then air dodge into grab range, grab then punish

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also grabs parry grabs (there's a list of smash physics somewjere in the game)

Suppose you mash to break out of it?

If you have decent range, you might be able to hit him and cancel the move. Not sure if he gets super armor.

Yeah, projectile moves really ruin his chances. A lot harder with characters who don't have projectiles though but suppose that's were dodging comes in. Thought watching and doing it against level 9s would give a good answer... Nope you can literally obliterate level 9s spamming that move because they aren't programmed to be intelligent enough to block it. (saying that level 9s also always seem to go for the fake Smash balls way more than they should for their difficulty, so they're very dumb).
