Hacking Question AutoRCM Power management routine

Hello guys!

So I've read several posts over the internet regarding the autoRCM battery drainage and just wanted to compare notes with the forum on what would be the best way to avoid the dreadful autoRCM dead battery scenario!

From what I could gather around in order to proper shut down the device you should:

Select the Power off option from OS, wait for it to enter RCM, and then hold power button for 15 sec
Power off option from OS and leave a dongle/Pc/mobile connected for 12+ secs
Reboot to SX OS/Hekate payload and use the Power Off option from there
Only dock when the device is ON or when in Sleep mode (never when it's Power off state)

And if you ever find yourself with a dead battery you should plug in the charger then hold the power button 12+ secs and wait.

Could you please share your knowledge, habits and maybe confirm the bullet points I've shared in this post ?

1. Correct.
2. That would do nothing (except with dongle, that would push payload).
3. Correct.
4. Correct, because it would boot to RCM.

Force shutting down (12+ sec) should work from horizon too.

I think if you use your mobile and SXTools it would inject payload.bin and maybe work the same way a dongle would? Not sure if Rekado does the same thing.

Maybe, but definitely won't happen with PC (or maybe they implemented it, idk now).

You can also just never turn off your switch. It can be in sleep mode for weeks or months without running out of battery. It loses battery at something like 1-2% a day in sleep mode.

I've only turned off my switch a few times since I got it in in May 2017

3. If only we could fuck with RCM mode to shut down after 4-5 seconds when no command is sent

EDIT: Or perhaps make it so the OS Power off option does the exact same as FORCE Power off (the hold 12 seconds)? How is this not done yet?

It sucks when your Switch battery is totally drained in autorcm mode.I power off using hekate power off function. Althought it works but for some strange reason my nsw turned it self on and battery drained.

All you have to do to make things simple is this:
1. Go to power options, and restart the system. it will enter RCM automatically
2. Hold power button for about 12 seconds, and it will power off entirely

Works for me every time, and ensures that its powered off. You can tell that it's fully powered off when the system stays ice cold on the right side. And if you plug in a dongle, no payload will be sent because the system is off.

Alternatively you can restart, then send the hekate payload and choose "power off" and it will guarantee that it'll be off without needing to check after.

Autorcm has been overcomplicated for the longest time. It's time to put old theories to rest.

Try this... Disable autoHorizonpoweroff (or whatever its called... I forget) so you aren`t cheating...

1) Power up into CFW via autoRCM. Unplug dongle
2) Select shutdown via Horizon
3) After 12 seconds you end up in RCM...

...We know this. I`ve said this 3 million times. However...

Then try this...

1) Power up into CFW via autoRCM. Leave dongle plugged in
2) Select shutdown via Horizon
3) After 12 seconds you end up back at Hekate menu...

...Again, we know this. I`ve said this 3 million times too

Then TRY THIS...

1) In Hekate, set up an autoboot option (anything... CFW, whatever). Save the config in Hekate as normal.
1) Power up into CFW via autoRCM. Leave dongle plugged in
2) Select shutdown via Horizon
3) After 12 seconds you will see Hekate booting... You will think "Mattytrog the idiot... It`s booting to Hekate menu". It isn`t though. Keep watching, instead of menu appearing, you will either see a white flash, OR you will see a "breathing" backlight with Hekate on it.
Then guess what... Your console turns off correctly. No RCM or anything. You may NOW remove your dongle.

...Again, this SHOULD be known by now. I`ve said it loads and loads of times. The bootrom does (or attempts) to do a mini boot, to complete the shutdown procedure.

Thats all.

Not a mystery people. Try it.

Modchip users are naturally immune to this (or should be as long as you don`t plug a USB-C in for 12 seconds after shutdown. Being in the dock is fine though...)

And thats exactly what I meant. By nothing I meant that nothing unusual would have happen, which means that it would boot to rcm.

can you tell us again? i reckon theres atleast 50 people a day who dont read before doing in this forum.

me, i just leave mine in sleep mode, lasts ages, well not 4 weeks as we both know, woopsie lol.

ultimate lazy way, leave it plugged into the dock in sleep mode when your not using it.
