What I *haven't* seen answered in this thread (I read this whole thread just in case), is this scenario:

I'm still on OFW 4.1.0, installed through official means. Can I update to 6.2.0, temporarily, using choidujorNX (or however it's spelled), without burning fuses, access the eShop, then downgrade back to 4.1.0? I realise fuses are burned at every opportunity in 6.2.0, so this might not be possible. But I haven't seen anything that confirms this. I just want to confirm my Nintendo Account is attached to a Switch, so I can purchase some eShop games from my PC's web browser. I'll download them later, when I can "safely" run 6.2.0.

I *do* have a 2nd Switch on 3.0.0, so keeping my 4.1.0 fuses aren't required. But it would be prefered to keep the option available.
Yes, you can. Booting through RCM and hekate (or any other bootloder) and then booting to stock should still work as always. And if it doesn't, you always have your NAND backup.

Thank you for the quick reply. However, due to my paranoia, I'd like additional clarification.

I was planning on using "autoRCM" for 6.2.0 (and not entering sleep mode), but then downgrading/restoring from my backup to 4.1.0. I don't have a jig (I used some wire, and it's working, but considering how reliable it is/isn't...), so I want to be able to boot with out autoRCM when I'm back on 4.1.0.

I do plan to buy an actual jig, but I'm waiting for this one, which is still under development. Hopefully I won't have to wait too much longer. But in the mean time, I'd like to avoid AutoRCM as a permanent installation, until I have a jig, and a payload delivery method.

Sleep mode on higher FW works. Only on lower FW it doesn't (or I am totally wrong).
That's one cool modchip. But if I were you, I'd grab the cheapest dongle for now while waiting. Or if you believe in yourself, just get a modchip and thus "coldboot".

You can't do that. There are no patches for 6.2 that will allow you to run it without burning fuses, if you want to run 6.2 right now then you will never be able to restore 4.1.0 and run it (unless you use RCM and inject a payload that patches out the fuse check on every boot).

If you must run 6.2 then you should buy another switch.

No, you can't. Not with 6.2, you need to wait.

Well nuts. Thank you for clearing that up. That's tremendously disappointing. I finally got my account setup on my Switch (the process was completely unclear on how to link my existing account, with $12 in it, to my Switch), otherwise I would have been online months ago. :(

You don't need patches to not burn fuses. That's all done by skipping the fuse check in bootloader (e.g. hekate).
You can always restore backup and boot to it, as long as you skip fuse check.
Yes you can. Why wouldn't booting to stock work?

Well... I was just thinking about installing ReiNX, abut guess what? I UPDATED TO 6.2.0!!!
Downgrade via choidujour (non-nx). Or restore backup

If I downgrade from 6.2 to 6.1 via choidujour, and then later update back to 6.2, do I get sleep mode back?
Yes, but I suggest you to install Emunand to downgrade it instead of your sysnand.

Warmboot aka sleep mode checks the fuse count when waking up. If they're higher than the firmware, the console will refuse to wake up. But if they match or there are less fuses burnt than the firmware, it will wake up.

I'm going to assume (big assumption here please feel free to fire back on me if you do not agree). This has nothing todo with smash bros being released. This is because it's been fully leaked already and those sources (who are brave/stupid enough) to have ran it apparently are running it under 6.2 since (homebrew is impossible on that version rn).

So the tl;dr to this is: This update sucks, nintendo's becoming apple in it that they are now preventing jailbreaking through exploit patching, not that it's going to help anything since the community already has majority of switches on 5.1.0 with unburnt fuses so... yeah... this isn't even going to help stop people from pirating smash (unless they are looking for online play too).

My opinion on the matter however is I'm a little upset, I'm not saying what they are doing is illegal rather, if this is a active measure against pirating then you should still be able to boot into homebrew, rather this is an attack on all of homebrew. It's like apple with Cydia, people are stealing paid apps, just attack all of jailbreak scene then, close the exploit doors and you close the environment. Im upset that people can't have nice things/they try to prevent nice things.

You are acting like Nintendo has a choice not to fight piracy/homebrew. They have no choice. They are providing a platform for third-party developers to sell their goods. They pay Nintendo a fee for this service. Nintendo is obligated to make that platform as safe as they can to prevent piracy so their developers don't lose money. If they just turn a blind eye to "jailbreaking" then they will have no choice but to abandon the platform and start over with a new console.

Sure we enjoy having an open platform to do what we want with it. But it is expected that Nintendo will do whatever they can to not make it easy.

To the above posts, developers should know by now Nintendo sucks at security. That being said they have stepped up their game this time around but still. Compared to the other consoles this has bigger entry points and more exploits. RIP Nintendo lmao

They may suck at security. But that doesn't mean they should stop trying.

I am all for breaking open all the hardware devices I own to be able to do whatever I want with them. But at the same time, I am not going to be offended if the manufacturer tries to stop me.

The fight is not over yet. They can still push new keygens inside updated TSEC fw blobs with fixes/mitigations for current flaws.

@BigOnYa there were relevant issues before south park was made, that's why i think a south park prequel/spinoff would be great. Randy and his friends in their child hood

Yea, like them running in high school together, getting into stuff, and how they got hitched and had kids. And how the town of South Park was back then compared to now. That would be cool to see.

    yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
@salazarcosplay if they made a prequel, it would still be about current issues, cause it doesn't make sense to make it about stuff that happened 30 years ago that nobody cares about anymore
