Hi,

As what I have placed on the thread title, I have been somehow out of the loop on the Switch scene on which I was too busy the last few months and have not touched my Switch for a while now.
I was just checking out the latest threads and news and I see that there are some new versions in SX OS as well as some movements by Nintendo to counter CFW with their latest firmware update (6.2).

:switch:Here's a little background on the setup I have now. :switch:
1) Switch Version is still at 5.1.0
2) Not banned yet as far as i remember
3) Has been offline for some time now
4) Currently utilizing SX OS at v1.6

What can you guys advise on the next steps I should take? --
advisable SX OS version? updating firmware? emunand? must have homebrews to take?:unsure:

I hope someone can share and advise. I am ofcourse checking the latest threads at the moment but still wanted to ask the community incase I might have missed some items. Would appreciate any help :)

Thanks :grog::grog:

You might want to update to 6.1 using ChoiduJourNX (+ 6.1 cias files from a trusted source) and update SX OS to 2.3Beta

Personally I do not use a emuNAND.

You might want to download RetroArch if you like to play older systems. Checkpoint is also a nice save manager.

Just do not update to 6.2

Don't update the switch until everything gets sorted out by people not out of the loop.

Update sxos to whatever the latest version is (regular or beta, your choice, probably regular for most users, beta if you want newer features that aren't completely tested yet)

Emunand, homebrew? I don't really mess with that myself, someone else can advise there.

Don't connect online to Nintendo on the switch, risks ban, might wind up updating on you without you asking for it, etc.

Yes, definitely stay far away from 6.2.

Back a backup of your NAND right away before you do anything else.

Thanks for the inputs. Let me check updating to 6.1 using ChoiduJourNX.

Quick question though --- I understand you are not utilizing emunand, but if I do utilize emunand (let's say the new implementation of SX to have it on SD) should I do the update of System version (6.1) in the emunand itself and just leave the sysnand to 5.1.0 (the one I have now)? Or do an update first of sysnand and then create the emunand?

As there are a variety of ways to set up your switch, my advice is going to lean towards stating there's a plethora of information available and pretty easy to find. Your best best is to research the Switch forums or alternate sources for an hour or so and then ask any specific questions to which you cannot find the answer for to better cater to your setup specifically.

Got a backup of my nand actually before I used the SX OS. But will take another one before I play around with the new updates. Thanks for this though :)

Thanks. I was actually looking at all the options on various threads. Just wanted to get some inputs from people here to get a headstart on which I should be looking at first. Appreciate this though :)

Thanks. Curious actually on the emunand. Just not sure if someone actually played around with it. Saw the new implementation on SD card emunand but not sure if i should update my sysnand first to 6.1 or do it at a later part on the emunand.

Sorry to piggy-back on your thread, but I'm curious as to what the benefits of emuNAND are? Is it something that is crucial?

Well this is from my experience with the N3DS scene -- ideally the concept is that if you have an emunand, you tend to use all ur custom stuffs on that part of your console only. Incase you messed something up, you are basically just breaking the emulated nand only which is stored separately from your main system (in this case on your micro sd). It's some kind of safe mechanism so that you won't entirely break your system incases of any mistakes or possible issues. I'm not entirely sure though if this is the same thing on the switch. One other benefit before on the N3DS is that if you get banned on ur emunand, your sysnand would be entirely safe from it (as far as I remember) --- on a sidenote though, i read somewhere on one of the threads here, that this is not entirely applicable for the Switch so you would most likely be still offline despite having emunand :)

I'd say wipe your wireless settings so you can't go online. People here have been complaining about being fed the 6.2.0 update from Nintendo even after DNS blocking of Nintendo's servers.

Not an SX user (yet) but am on 5.1 for my CFW offline Switch and see no reason to update until a game requires it that tinfoil can bypass. This may be Smash but just taking the wait and see approach.

From your posts I think you have a pretty good handle on the current situation. Just use airplane mode and stay offline. Update SX if you want as that won’t hurt anything.
