I on firmware 9.9 should I use sound hax method on guide or all verson method wats best? On 3ds guide?

Also I didn’t see a part advising about nand back up? Do we use them on 3ds ? I can’t find that in the 3ds hack guide ?

@Zap2000: Soundhax (followed by some others) is a pure software exploit and does not require anything besides a compatible firmware (3.0<=your device<=11.3). Note that Soundhax may not work if you updated the firmware with a cartridge and not via internet (but everything is explained in the guide). Soundhax is an easy and straightforward method.

Ntrboot with a compatible flashcard is independent from the system software and can’t be patched by Nintendo (hardware flaw allows code execution before the internal NAND is even read).
Read the guide carefully and follow it step by step. No matter what method you choose, the goal and result is always the same: Install B9S and Luma cfw.
NAND-backup is very important and it’s on the finalizing page.

@peacemakerstorm: Hard to say… Could have multiple reasons. Make sure:
  • Your SD-card inside the 3DS is formatted with FAT32, cluster size 32kb.
  • SafeB9SInstaller is on the SD-card inside your 3DS and named “boot.firm” .
  • Your magnet triggers sleep mode reliably even when pushing buttons.
  • The gamecard reader of your 3DS is okay and the flashcard makes good contact.
You can try to upgrade with a cartridge to a higher firmware, but Soundhax may not work. Perhaps other entry points for the Homebrew Menu do. (Read in the guide for more information)
Lastly there is Frogminer. Test if your DS mode is working before upgrading (!!). Open Download Play and and Select "Nintendo DS" not 3DS. If it boots, upgrade to 11.8 via internet and follow the instructions here.

@iohanna29: Have you yet tried to bring up the Rosalina Menu with L+Select+Down(Dpad) while the system is booted normally? If you’re running Luma >=8.0 it should pop up. If FBI starts, you have some kind of cfw running.
But… you have FBI 2.4.2 which was released Aug 16, 2016; this was before B9S was released. If the previous owner did not upgrade, you may still have A9LH. Please do not update the official firmware to 11.8 until we know, what is installed on your device.
The latest Luma that works with AL9H is 7.0.5. Try to put arm9loaderhax.bin from this release to the root of your SD-card and hold “Select” while booting. Hopefully the Luma settings are loaded.

@Kevin_Hawke: Check these:
  • All buttons working?
  • Maybe you've changed to button combination by accident? Rename the file SD:/Luma/config.bin , boot your 3DS, set "Show NAND or user string in System Settings" in the Luma configuartion and proceed with "Start". (Renaming and not deleting the config file in case you want to undo this)
  • You are not trying to bring Rosalina up while in DS-mode or in GBA-mode (this won't work).

Thanks, that was my suspicion :) I knew FBI worked, he has CFW. I was going to see payloads to see if it would reveal what generation hack that was used :)

Is very risk of use custom theme in a 3ds that is connected to internet?

I want to risk it, but I would not like to do it if the ban risk is very accurate.

No it's not risky. Just don't visit the theme shop else it might be deleted.

Stupid follow-up, how is his FBI working without the FBI.3dsx ? I'm asking to learn more too :) Could Nintendo 3ds be used instead of root?
FBI is standalone 3DS title.... Not just an app accessed only through HomeBrew. It exists as a .CIA

So what should I do with my o3ds?
You never said if you were able to boot Godmode or not.... You HAVE to have CFW to have FBI installed as a .CIA on your HomeMenu. YOu just need the correct files for everything to play nice.

y'all aren't allowed to tell me where to get em, right?
Nope

Best advice I can give you is check official sites or installs for the correct file sizes. People upload fake .CIAs all the time for the sake of it. Or trim them, so you get the game but not the features. i.e There is a trimmed version of Luigi's Mansion that removes the instruction manual as well as local co-op and it's about 100mb smaller than the actual game.

Iv got 4 gig in it now I’m happy if it lets me complete the whole process? and store nand and I forget about games till my larger one arrives?
Yep that's completely fine. And you can install small games, like New Super Mario Brothers if you put the NAND backup on your PC and free a little space.

Ok nps it’s a used 3ds I got. Do I need to reset the 3ds before I start the soundhax method how would I do that? Do I need to format the sd card that came with it in case off errors? Do I need to reformat button in the 3ds also as it was used by another person?

No it's not necessary but if it would make you feel better you can do a factory restore before you start. Just don't update the system when asked.

Go to system settings, page 4, system format.

Ok my last question I have a wii u with haxchi on it. I just bought this 3ds and a switch to run CFW should I put them all under the same online account or have them under different ones due to console bans?
