Haven’t modified my switch yet, but if I’m not planning on using any online features (not even on my WiFi network) are there any implications of this 6.2 release for me? It sounds like tinfoil removes the firmware check for NSP’s it installs, so if I just keep it on 6.1 forever will I be fine?

That's rubbish. Did it not ask you to accept the update?

Declined the option many times while playing the new Pokemon on OFW.

Went to download Warframe before leaving, I wasn't prompted to update but when I came home my switch was updated.

NBD imo, I play legit copies and dabble with Homebrew for fun.

According to Scires, it may be a long wait before we get homebrew on 6.2.

If they don't manage to defeat TSEC (and according to him it's a considerable possibility , then they will rely on userland exploits (thus beginning the game of cat and mouse with Nintendo patching exploits every new firmware)

Well that sucks. So if I jailbreak my unpatched 6.1.0 Switch I should do it with the expectation that I will only ever be able to play Pokemon Let's Go and games released before it. What's crazy is if I keep the system legit and just buy the five games I really want I'm already spending $270 since Nintendo games never go down in price unlike say PS4 or Steam. I might as well just jailbreak my 6.1.0 Switch for those games and buy a brand new one for $300 for future games.

Not necessarily, may take awhile before games are on 6.2. Smash offline isn't expected to be. But of course any game you go online with or update will be.

Nintendo physical games do go down in price granted not by as much as the other systems though, especially on the 2nd hand market. We have two OFW Switches and recently bought a 3rd for CFW and did the calculations that even if there backup loading for new games ceased soon there were enough already released to justify the $300. I have several carts we will probably be selling soon as well.

will 90DNS prevent updates?
It *should* but I don’t trust anything but airplane mode. It can’t protect against Nintendo Hotspots which are dangerous with a mobile console. Something I learned all to well a few years ago with my N3DS.

Dang, and there are a number of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals on the eShop. Wondering if I should just go buy another Switch so that I can keep my current one on 6.1.0, because it sounds like 6.2.0 is going to be a pain to crack, if it can be cracked at all in a timely manner.

Black Friday this year has a lot of fairly solid discounts on digital already, and retails gonna get marked down hard in general as retail has been handling older Switch games same as they handled older PS4/X1 games with heavy markdowns.

At this point, its really more of a matter of if "games are too expensive unlike PS4" was actually a real reason, in which case its losing validity, or a BS reason to excuse piracy.

I implore all Americans to report this shady practice to the FTC just because you violate the TOS DOES NOT give them the right to brick consoles, i'm willing to face a DMCA lawsuit than nintendo to kick me while i'm down and not fight back
They're not bricking the console, though. That's the worst part. The console can still be used, but many of it features will become unavailable. The salt on the wound.

Any normal person would understand that a video game device unable to play the games made for it is a useless device. The law sees it as a device unable to access some services but still "usable". What you use it for isn't their concern but they fucking know the device effectively becomes useless much like a brick.

Why would it be a better thing if the console became bricked? (Sorry if I'm making assumptions, it just seemed like you were implying that based off your tone)

Yeah right. Wake me when BOTW, Odyssey, or Octopath Traveler are easily available for $35 much less the $20 that many big PS4 games get their MSRP set to once they have been out around a year. The Switch tax is a very real thing. Nintendo killed off Amazon Prime's 20% off new games and preorders by threatening to withhold stock until the games were a couple of weeks old according to Micheal Pachter. Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze for $42 on the eShop being the Black Friday price is laughable for a game that came out nearly five years ago on the previous gen console. Those kind of remasters typically launch for $30 to $40 on PS4.

Don't listen to random rumors to suit your cognitive bias. The changes to Amazon and BestBuy weren't Nintendo "refusing stock" to the largest retailers in the world. If you believe this, you have zero cognitive understanding of how multi-billion dollar corporations work.

Also if *anyone* was doing this, it was actually Sony who stopped having games available for pre-order/sale on Amazon until the discount was removed, this was actually a major issue for several months: https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-not-allowing-preorders-of-sony-games-2018-5. Conversely, Smash and Pokemon were both always orderable on Amazon with the discount.

But you seem quite entrenched in trying to justify piracy because "costs" so do whatever makes your little dopamine hits go off. Donkey Kong is trying to recoup a massive failure of a launch of the WiiU, context is important, not that you seem to care about it.

It's not random rumors. Pachter is a pretty good source for what's happening on the business side of things. What are you even doing preaching about piracy in a subforum about hacking the system so people can steal games? No one jailbreaks his system to play backups. LOL Wii U sucking being something to justify why a five year old game isn't a bad deal at a $60 MSRP. Okami was a huge commercial failure on PS2 and the PS3 remaster launched at $20.

Pachter is cursory on the video games market, its not his business and his information is frequently wrong or based not on evidence but his own suspicions. Feel free to actually provide a reason for why the thing you said Nintendo threatened to do was... actually what Sony did, and you somehow twisted reality to blame Nintendo. Your claim is so poor it actually falls apart when given a cursory glance, but you don't seem to want to actually admit that the reality you twisted to suit your biases was wrong. If you want to blame someone for nuking retail pre-order discounts its far more logical and evidenced to blame Sony, but that wouldn't fit your narrative, now would it? :D

A Wii game, released many times over, is not a considerably more modern and costly to produce WiiU game. Game dev isn't free, you feeling something should cost something less has no real impact on the reality of how much something did cost and what it needs to make back. The game is now seeing discounts, those discounts will go deeper if they don't on their own at retail.

Also this isn't a subforum to piracy, this is a subforum to exploits. ;)

Come on, even people who claim they only use the exploits for emulation are still pirating the roms. In the end I'll probably still just buy the games. But thinking out loud in this forum, logically I should pirate them since it's easily done and cheaper to steal the games and buy a new system. But something in my brain makes me like and want to play a game more if I pay money for it. Probably since paying actual money forces you to limit your choices. Although games are so cheap on PS4 it doesn't limit my choices much lol.

This is actually a known problem with piracy (or well, general human psychology for "free stuff"), because you can always stop and play/do something else, you don't really have a compulsion to finish anything. Its a cognitive thing when you're limited to savor what you do have, so you're more prone to finish a game you bought.
