I have been reading and reading and I'm having trouble finding a tutorial to mod my Switch. I would like to run Homebrew and transfer my cartridges to my SD card so I don't have to take all my games with me. I have the jig but I need a little help.

Thank you

Reinx is likely the best free cfw for using backups. Atmosphere purposely does not include patches to prevent piracy which is why the distributions like SDFiles and Kosmos use nsp/nca patches that were "borrowed" from reinx.

You might as well just use the original. Its up to your preference though.

Thanks for the help. I'll give Reinx a try. I have one more question. Is it possable to unmod it down the road if I wanna get back on the Nintendo network?

if you hack it, expect a ban no matter what... you will be less disappointed when this actually happens. There are steps that people take to minimise this risk, but its not 100% guarantee you from a ban

First thing you should do is to make a nand backup, minimizes the risk of getting banned, when you want to go back to stock firmware and helps you restore your console in case of a brick

I expect a ban, I was just wondering if there is a way to remove the mod. I know it's still a cat and mouse game with Nintendo. I don't plan on getting it online when it's modded. Should I leave it on the current firmware before moding it or update it first? I'm currently on 5.1.0 and its a pre patched switch

If you make a nand backup and never boot into Original firmware, you can basically go back to the point before you hacked your switch. Just make sure you never boot into original firmware and use something like 90DNS.

No! Especially because Custom Firmwares won't work on 6.2 for now.

1. Make a Nand Backup
2. Run the Custom Firmware of your choice and maybe active Auto RCM to avoid booting into the original firmware.
3. If you want to update, the best way is with ChoiDuJourNX, that way you can avoid burning fuses and downgrade your firmware if needed. But remember, DON'T UPDATE TO 6.2!!

I ment by using ChoiDujourNX to go to 6.1.
I'm on 5.0.1 now.
I haven't used it before, but it should be fine updating through it. You'll need to extract the update file from an XCI or look online for it. You should launch it through a CFW anyway, so install ReiNX (https://reinx.guide/) and launch ChoiDujourNX through it.

That's what I was thi thinking. How big are nand dumps? I have a 32gb sd card. Thank you.
A NAND dump should be done through Hekate (https://github.com/CTCaer/hekate/releases), just launch it as a payload through TegraRCMSmash or something similar. With a 32GB card you can do a partial dump, which will backup your system partition, about 2GB, which is enough to save you from a brick. Any games or saves won't be backed up though, but they can be backed up through checkpoint anyway.
