Seeing as this thread is still active, I'd like to ask whether this guide is better, or the following: https://sites.google.com/site/completesg/

Over in the Homebrew discord everyone recommends the CompleteSG link I provided. I'm not sure which to use. I'm looking to hack a Wii which plays Gamecube games on the latest firmware. Thanks in advance!

ModMii does it all for you, it downloads everything needed in an easy to understand tutorial, no having to download files from multiple sources like CompleteSG. Hands down ModMii is better!!

Ah, great to hear. I just completed hacking my Wii using CompleteSG though haha. It was honestly very easy, just had to download two things.

EDIT: On second thought, I'm unable to install a WAD that I have on my main Wii, so I'm going to give this guide a go and re-hack my Wii.

EDIT 2: Yep, this guide is by far superior. All the cIOS and WAD stuff were completely skipped in the other guide I linked. Bless this guide!

Hey, I have two Wii Consoles, 1 x PAL and 1 x NTSC (US) version and I built the Abstinence w/ Casper setup with ModMii but I get stuck on the same message on both of the consoles when I'm launching the 'exploit letter' and end up on the 'casper v0.2'-screen.

Path:"sd:/bootmii_ios.bin"
IOS flags 254 v65281

I'm using a virtual machine running Windows XP to do run ModMii and then transfer over the files to my Mac and then Copy over to a SanDisk 4 Gb SDHC SD-card. The SD cards are formatted fat32 via diskutil, but that shouldn't be a problem as far as I know.

What am I doing wrong?

ModMii 6.4.9 Released!

6.4.9 Changelog:
  • Added warning to main menu suggesting users should download files from NUS before Nintendo Wii servers shut down in 2019.
  • Bundled prepared download queues for users to easily grab files from NUS for future use.
  • Changed recommended cIOS249 to base 57 from 56, and cIOS250 to base 56 from 57. Syscheck updater will consider both configurations as up to date.
  • Added USB-Loader GX and made it the default\recommended USB-Loader.
  • Added Nintendont to ModMii Classic's download page 2.
  • Updated MyMenuifyMod to v1.6 to support wiimote plus remotes.
  • Fixed broken links to guide images and gifs.
  • Other minor changes.
  • With 3 kids and counting who's got time for changelog jokes?

I was hoping to replace mmm with an alternate app (i.e. wiimod modmii mod) that supports wiimote plus remotes for this release, but that will have to come in a later beta update as it hasn't been properly tested yet.

I personally think that NUS won't shut down for a while, as the DSi NUS is still up so you can "redownload" stuff. The Nintendo Europe site said there would be a full shutdown to remove redownloading in 2019, but I don't know how true that is?

  • Added USB-Loader GX and made it the default\recommended USB-Loader.

Great! I don't like CFG USB Loader that much.

@XFlak could you try Wii Mod Lite? I've recommended it to countless people as it has both perfect Wii and Wii U support, and some good things. It supports Wii Remote Plus.

P.S. ModMii is great but I maintain https://wii.guide/. It's not perfect but it's ideal for Unix users and it has instructions for setting up Wiimmfi and RC24.

Hello,

@Larsenv :

You say ==> Great! I do not like much CFG USB Loader.

Personal Review ==> For me the best Loader is CONFIGURABLE LOADER v70, easier to setup and manage because it starts me all games, compared to USB LOADER GX who knows saw not always start some games.

This is just an opinion.:D:P:D;)

I would go with wii mod lite but there's just 1 problem, I need a boot.elf for certain variation of guides (I.e to launch directly via an exploit). Also, no source code despite supposedly being open source so I can't even compile it myself (or ask someone).

If you (or anyone) is able to help with the above (perhaps by getting a hold if the wii mod Lite dev) then I'll 100% switch to it.

And cool about wii.guide, do you also maintain the 3ds.guide site? I've actually used the 3ds site and found it super helpful (if a bit tedious with the multiple downloads and manual aspects to setting up the directory structure) but really wouldn't have a use (personally) for the wii.guide site other than setting up RC24, but I think it's cool of you to show some love to the non-windows users that I've neglected since pretty much the beginning of time, lol

Yeah, I don't have the source code, the latest versions of Wii Mod Lite were shared on Chinese forums. Would it work if the DOL was converted to an ELF using a tool? I have a tool that can do that (DolTool3)

No, Plailect manages the 3ds.guide (now 3ds.hacks.guide) site along with Wii U, Switch and PS Vita. I've been waiting for him to hopefully make wii.guide be under Plailect's management so the guide can be enhanced, but he's busy with college and life I believe.

I'd be curious to see if we could convert it, but we'd need to test it obviously before including in ModMii. If you can convert it and pm me the file that would be awesome! (I can't seem to easily find the doltool3 program anywhere for download)

A little trouble makes the update with Riiconnect because it´s overwriting my patched IOSes 31 and 80 (needed for working Weather & News Channel and Mail).

All other Apps/Loaders etc. works as before.
(in MMM Manager the Wiimotion Plus has no function but i think thats normal, before i´ve using a Gamecube Controller for the Apps).

Thank you for this great Tool and reading and your help.:grog:

Had an error show while updating. It disappeared kind of fast but was something like "Sub Errors: 1". Showed on the last line after everything installed then the dos window closed. Any one else see this and is there a way to rerun the update?

What version were you updating from? When you open modmii now what's the new version number?

You could just reinstall, but if you prefer just download the latest zip from sourceforge and extract all it's contents to your current modmii install directory, overwriting all duplicates

are you suggesting any additional files to use with USBLoaderGX ?
the forwarder channel (useful to "return to" the loader when exiting a game)
the priiloader's forwarder booter (used to launch the forwarder at console boot from priiloader's install menu)

There's also an additional feature modmii could use : generate a config file with wanted language file. but that's just a bonus :P
the official loader's installer is doing it by checking all the available language files and generate a config file + selected lang file inside the loader's folder.
if you add a config file, I'd suggest you also edit the loader's IOS to 58 (instead of 249) for hdd compatibility. But I'll do that officially on a future release (next or soon).
again, that's just a bonus. Thanks for adding the loader in modmii.

ModMii's generic usb loader forwarder should work the same as the official gx one, but it will load a cfg loader first if detected but I figure most people won't have more than 1 USB loader in their apps folder, or at least not for very long once they figure out which one they like.

Why are you suggesting IOS58 over 249?is that just for the loader or for launching games as well?

What content would you suggest be in the standard config file? Bearing in mind ModMii is only maintained in English and I'm assuming that's the default for GX anyway.

If any of these points are going to be addressed in an upcoming GX update I'd prefer to leave the customizations to the GX team. The more control you have over your app the better, ModMii serves as just a middle man for GX at the end of the day.

newest hdd seems to have initialization issue with cIOS.
IOS 58 contains a different USB module which works better (nintendont and wiiflow don't have issues initializing the newest drives, while USBLoaderGX does).
I always suggest users with that init issue to set 58 in their settings and it fixes it. so I tried to fix the issue by forcing IOS58 by default but users reported it didn't help, so I'm not sure what the problem is (manually doing it is fine, forcing is not ? Probably wrong user's report)

the hdd issue will be addressed in the loader, and the config/language file generation was only a bonus, it's not required. priiloader dol is also a bonus and would require a tutorial section to set some autoboot in priiloader, it's lot of work. so it's fine to keep all these out of modmii.

Though, I think having an option for usbloadergx forwarder would be good (instead of the generic forwarder which loads CFG by default if multiple are found) because the loader relies on the "return to" feature using the forwarder's titleID. that's more for convenience and easier for users as they don't need to edit the titleID in the loader's setting if they use a non official channel.
I don't know if you can make it an option to have either the generic or usbgx, or both. up to you to see what's easier, but if you add it be sure to use the wii version. I'll see if I can make a wad working on both wii and vwii (HBC channel does).

I was updating from 6.4.8 to 6.4.9. Did the same error on both of my Windows 10 laptops. Yes I'll probably grab the .zip file just to make sure nothing was missed.

Sorry could not get a picture to attach in an edit of the above posts. Seeing I was getting the 6.4.9 zip at sourceforge I went ahead and grabbed 6.4.8 and reinstalled it to see if I got the same error when updating. I did & the picture attached shows what it was "Sub items Errors: 1".

EDIT: Not sure if it affects anything seeing I went ahead and installed the zip over the top of it. Only reporting it because over the many years I've never noticed any errors updating before.
