i dont have any dlc or eshop titles, I do however have some cartridges, which are all EU. These will run with installing CFW/Luma on a new motherboard, but updating them will not be possible?
Even if I create a new Nintendo ID on the new motherboard?

cheers

Updates are installed on the SD card. Creating a new NNID will not bypass the eShop region lock on n3DS, n3DSXL, and n2DSXL models.

Only o2DS, o3DS, and o3DSXL are able to change firmware region with access to that specific region Nintendo online services, I think after System Memory Format ← this doesn't work for n3DSXL (I've tried!).

You'll just have to check places like that iso site if they have all the updates you need for your cart games should you replace with USA n3DSXL mobo.

Maybe it'll sound too... dumb. But if you can get a newly 3DS (the model of your desire) for cheap, I think it would be better.
Reflowing doesn't always work (like, 15% chances of not working), and the motherboard replacement isn't easy.
Yeah... it would be to get another one so you would spend money, but for example: here in Latin America gettin' a new motherboard (of course used, I refer with "new" to be new for the system) for the 3DS is hard, and when some get listed on MercadoLibre (our own 3rd World equal to eBay or Amazon), they're expensive as bonkers, and buying a new one is usually cheaper.
I'm just suggestin' if it's viable to buy one that's used, and if it's not then reflowing the GPU/motherboard changin' will be.

Hey,

I was hoping to get some input on how to fix my N3DS on CFW.

I recently got this system, used and updated to 11.8 firmware. Then I followed the Frogminer/seedminer guide to install the newest version of Luma3D.

The issue is that after a while, playing whichever game, will result in an arm11 exception crash. Also, sometimes it will simply freeze on the homescreen. Finally, often before the freeze / crash occurs there will be graphical glitches on both screens which flicker on and off and increase in frequency until the system freezes. The screen glitches are hard to capture but I attached some photos, it happens most often in FBI, while installing or browsing files.
After such freezes the system will not boot for a while (LED flashes on and off), but after 10 mins of waiting it will again boot normally.
Once one of these crashes caused the CTRNAND to become at least partially corrupt (simply looking at the filenames with GM9).

I have tried:
- check SD card health
- try new SD card
- reinstalling FBI
- restore sysnand with gm9 - sysnand backup was from just after completing frogminer guide
- different battery from another N3DS

some pictures: 1) ARM11 error during game 2) CTRNAND contents corrupt (see weird file names) 3) CTRNAND cant boot 4) screen flicker mild 5) screen flicker intense, just before crash

This also happens on the system when it is freshly restored to the earliest sysnand backup I have, without any CIAs installed other than FBI, homebrew, Anemone, checkpoint, rosalina updater.
Is this a hardware problem or is there some other restore option I could try? I realize now I should probably have tested the system for a couple of days before putting CFW on it to rule out a hardware fault on stock firmware..

Id really like to salvage this as it is a Hyrule edition and has a nice screen, so any advice would be great
cheers!

Holy shit. Finally, someone with the same problem as myself.

My 3DS has been like this since like, December 2017

Hopefully it's under warranty... :)

Restore original unhacked NAND back up to unhack it, and send it for repairs, if you aren't too broke to do that.

Could it be faulty RAM? The RAM is shared between the CPU and GPU, right? That could explain why you are seeing both graphical glitches and other issues not related to graphics.

Finally I found someone with the exactly same issue I`m having. I have it freezing in whichever game I run after -10-15 min, It got worse with time and after a while I got the failed to mount CTRNAND message and it wouldn`t boot anymore. I could overcome it and make it boot again using the steps on 3ds. hacks. guide/ctrtransfer. Anyway after I was able to access the games again, the freezing persisted, with some graphic stripes crossing both screens, just alike the ones you sent in your pictures After trying every possible solution I could find in the internet, I stopped here. Still no fix for it? Did you find a solution for the issue? Is it better just to sell it for parts and get a new one?

It's a safe bet that it's caused by hardware failure. If you can find a cheap enough mainboard it might make sense to replace the mainboard rather than getting a new console. Selling the old one for parts is not a bad idea either though.

You can give CTRTransfer (Type D9) - CTRTransfer a try at 3DS firmware repair to rule out softbrick.

However, that "failed to mount CTRNAND" error in the middle of game play sounds like the physically NAND chip is failing. If the hardware issue is 'minor' such as cracked BGA joints separating as the 3DS heats up, it might be possible to salvage that motherboard with a reflow using a work station. Is this a o3DS or o3DSXL model?
