Okay... My turn to ask a stupid question.

I recently brought a new 3DS and transferred all my stuff (including CFW) to new 2DS XL. Me in my infinite wisdom thought I could be smart and delete all the .SAV files so my better half can enjoy games without any spoilers and such. Now none of games want to load but instead throw an error screen at me.

The old system is a 3DS XL on 11.6 with Luma 9.1. Homebrew and all system apps work fine just not any games, though games did work yesterday before the .SAV wipe. Oh and my infinite wisdom struck again when I didn’t even backup the saves (40+ games)

My question is this, is this salvageable or am I at the point where I should reinstall all the games again from scratch?

@RyuVentus, yah you pretty much have to reinstall all HOME Menu *.cia games that had their *.sav deleted. For those you don't already have backups, you can dump the games in GodMode9 (even if they're missing saves) and then reinstall them.
For Mario Kart 7 this worked:
DD.png

Random data, Mario Kart started and complained about corrupted save. Seems to work.
But you would probably have to know the exact size of each save. Not sure if this is really faster/better.

Edit: Some more commands to create a 512kb file:

In Windows cmd:
fsutil file createnew 00000001.sav 524288
(probably file full of zeros)
Linux equivalent (probably works for OSX):
truncate -s 512k 00000001.sav
dd if=/dev/zero of=./00000001.sav count=1024

In any case, random data or zeros, games started, complained corrupted data an reinitialized. But the file size has to match. You can't simply create a bigger file. Ocarina of time for example crashed with the 512kb trash file, but booted with "corrupted save data" on 128kb trash file.
I did not know this. Why don't the games simply create a new save file if it is missing?

If I remember correctly, you already had B9S and Luma installed. Reading Nintendo's stupid threats before the update starts, really gives a bad feeling. But put these feelings away. The cfw prevents itself from being overwritten and nothing bad will happen.

One addition to this very short answer from the guide:
The last update 11.8 broke Luma compatibility (Nintendo did this probably not on purpose) and lead to the infamous "Failed to apply 1 Firm patch(es)" message. Yesterday there was yet another cry for help (not a big deal, only downloading new Luma). If there's ever a version 11.9 or 12, wait some days before updating and read on GBAtemp. If nobody reports problems, you can safely update. There will be probably a thread about any update.

Updating is safe for you now, because you have the latest version of Luma if you followed the guide just some days ago.

@KleinesSinchen -
Awww, man! It's you again!? You could have shared my shame and embarrassment with someone else, couldn't you!!?

(Ahhhh... Hopefully, my intended jokey sarcasm above was obvious!? But, I've learned the hard way that such nuances very often miss the mark when in text-only format!) ----- Think I'll start again!

@KleinesSinchen -
Thank you again so much!

Maybe unbelievably, I'm a teacher in some other hugely different areas and know how some 'newbie' questions- particularly ones you've heard many times before- can be somewhat annoying if you're not in a great mood. Next time I talk to you, hopefully it's in a different thread! :)

Thank you! Again! Sehr sehr sehr tausend dank!!! (<----- I tried!!) ...
("Entschuldigen sie bitte, wo ist der jungenherberge" is about all I remember from school! :) hehehe)

Peace!

hey guys, how do I create an Emunand? I alreay have B9S on my o3ds xl. I wanna try to access the eshop on my region changed 3ds because I saw this thread https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/5iyrl7/solution_for_making_eshop_work_after_region/. I thought it's easier to create an emunand instead of region changing back and forth :D

Open GodMode9, press Home for options menu and select "More..." followed by "SD format Menu"
Select the desired option and choose to copy SysNand to EmuNand.
:!: ALL DATA ON YOUR SD WILL BE LOST! :!:

You could just use Luma "secure_info C" loading option to make that easier.

  • SecureInfo_C loading: Mostly useful for region changing, Luma will load SecureInfo_C from ctrnand:/rw/sys instead of SecureInfo_B or SecureInfo_A, if available. This is convenient for using your region-changed SecureInfo_A/B without renaming or overwriting the original files.

can you please elaborate? :o

edit: should I stop making emunand and just use the secure_infoC option in luma? orr I still need to make an emunand then use that option? also where in luma can I see that? I can't seem to find it when booting up luma settings :o

Your region changed SecureInfo_A/B can be renamed to SecureInfo_C and copied to ctrnand:/rw/sys. It will automatically load that file if it's detected on boot. No options ticked are necessary. You can just easily go into the same directory and rename the file, to load the original SecureInfo on your region.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Though I would like to add that region changes are completely pointless when using CFW since Luma makes the console itself region free. Rarely a title will require locale emulation, but Luma has that covered too..... Unless you absolutely need that Hiragana HomeMenu or something.

actually I am now currently running on the original NAND which is JPN. So after region changing it to US, I'll use gm9 then make a copy of the secureinfo_A and rename it to secureinfo_C? or copy the secureinfo_A from the Japanese > region change > rename and copy the secureinfo _C from the japanese one? :o

would the secureinfo_C help me in accessing the eshop? :o I wanna region change since I would be selling my 3ds :(

The region changed secure info should be renamed yes.... So the US SecureInfo should be renamed to SecureInfo_C. As for the eShop, There are extra steps in letting a region changed console access the eshop. AFAIK on N3DS/N2DS if the console has accessed the eshop on the original region it can never access the eshop once it's been changed. That's not true for the O3DS/2DS.

it's an old 3ds xl. I've already deleted/disconnected the eshop thingy that requires the serial number, and also unlinked the nnid. I also region changed it once and created a new nnid. What other steps should I do? :o

If it's already changed, then you can restore your original secureinfo and use the Luma feature with the renamed region changed one to access the US changed console. I mean, other than that you should be good. Check out the guide and see if there might be something you missed just in case. If not, just do whatever your end goal was.

uhm....what??? There is frogminer for 11.8 systems to get cfw. Also you need to search down .cia files to install using FBI after.

Okay, what I mean is that I have cfw(sys 11.7.0-40U) but I tried using FBI to install these cia files(meaning Starfox 64 3D and Castlevania Lords of Shadow) and both of them, at almost full completion, gave me an error and I just don't know why it happened. I assume it's because I need some sort of app to filter them through or something, but I'm not sure. Can you let me know what I'm doing wrong?
