Homebrew Discussion Reversing the Pokeball plus for a Mew

AFAIK the only way to get Mew in Pokemon Lets Go is to buy a PokeBall plus, sync it with the device to unlock mew.

This means the final Pokemon needed to complete the Pokedex is behind a paywall, which is stupid considering we buy the full game, so should able to catch all the pokemon within the two titles alone. Essentially Mew is DLC.

From what I can see the Pokeball plus uses Bluetooth to connect to the switch.

Essentially support for the Pokeball plus was added in 5.0.0.

According to Sceiries the switch talks to GameFreak's servers, sending pokeball plus's info, and GameFreak's servers send back a wonder card which unlocks Mew. Very annoying, so homebrew will have to unlock the Mew..

Unfortunately I'm late to the Pokemon Datadump party since I legitimately bought by game and didnt use the leaked pirated Eevee version xD Ow well

Each Poké Ball Plus can give only ONE Mew - even if you have two games you can download Mew only of your copies.
To download Mew you have to connect the Switch to the internet, so I think Game Freak/Nintendo servers store an identification number of the Poké Balls Plus

Yes this seems to be the case since its then unlocked using a Wondercard, well time to buy the pokeball plus

I wonder if you can use checkpoint to save your game, trade Mew from the pokeball plus and restore the checkpoint save. Well that depends on whether or not you can trade Mew

Which surely means us folks that are banned are shit out of luck as my switch probably wont connect to the servers

in my opinion, Mew (as for the other pokemons) are just DATA. Mew already is in the game, that ball just unlocks it. With that said, i think that a LayeredFS mod COULD unlock mew.

To be honest people, all of you users that are already banned should stay 100 meters away from the PokeBall Plus accessory, is nothing but a cheap way to rip people off more money, and besides you can't get a Mew through it if you are already banned.

Avoid it at all costs, simply wait for a homebrew solution, I am sure the first thing to drop by will be a legit Mew import for Let's Go save files.

Unfortunately not, the unlock is tied to that poke all plus so it uses its serial

And so was it in Red/Blue/Yellow. I had to buy additional hardware (Xploder) to get it.

I didnt have to? I did the menu glitched, battled the guy with the slowpoke and then mew showed up

This was only discovered vey recently however

Us kids around when the game launched in 98 had no way to get mew legit except Nintendo events

That glitch isn't a "legit" way either. I had mew back when R/B released just from the missing.no glitch like everyone else. Shit was easy even for a 2nd grader to do. I highly doubt there wasn't a kid in your school spreading all the glitches around. Someone was bound to have Internet around you and all the free time in the world to search pokemon.

You can't get mew from the missingno glitch. Until very recently the only way to get him in RBY was GameShark or Nintendo events

I know one way to get Mew, while transferring it you have to disconnect the wire from both consoles, at the end, the two game boys will have a duplicated Mew.

All it takes is for someone to redeem the Mew and receive the Mystery Gift containing the Mew but NOT claim it at the Poké Center. Dump the save and we can extract the Wondercard with Mew from the save. That Wondercard can then be shared and imported into other games who can then go claim Mew at the Poké Center.

Based on SciresM’s twitter he’s also managed to already get the Wondercard data so it’ll likely be floating around soon enough.

EDIT: This is wrong. Wondercards are no longer stored in save data and are immediately redeemed and discarded (no more soft reseting wonder card events). So if you want Poké Ball Mew you'll need to get the file from someone who already redeemed it and then change the owner info to your own (I also re-roll the PID and Encryption Constant to ensure it's unique but I don't know how necessary that really is).

You can keep duping mew from a backed up save file, send the mew to someone else, restore the save with mew again, and repeat as desired for an army of mews to distribute/play with.

Pkhex new update suports lets go tested by scires sorry if i spelles it wrong but u can add emw and melton, etc that way and update pokedex so that u conplete it

Oh cool. Still 5 years after the game came out in the states. But yeah you're right - not as recent as I thought.
