Sony will be skipping E3 2019

kcH4gBa.png

Sony Interactive Entertainment has just confirmed that they will not be making a showing at next year's E3 conference. In an interview with Game Informer, Sony execs claimed that the company is looking for "inventive opportunities to engage the community" as an alternative to a live conference. This marks the second time Sony has skipped out on press conferences in recent time, with PlayStation Experience 2018 being cancelled as well. The reason for skipping PSX 2018 was reportedly due to a lack of footage and information available to be given about upcoming games, but by the time E3 2019 rolls around, PlayStation users will be looking forward to major exclusive titles like Death Stranding, the Last of Us Part 2, Dreams, and Ghosts of Tsushima, all scheduled for a launch in 2019. While Nintendo hosts Nintendo Directs during E3, and EA does EA Play offsite a few days prior, Sony has no plans for a press conference or announcement of upcoming games near that timeframe. This puts an end to the 24 year streak of Sony's attendance at E3, starting all the way back in 1995.

Just because they are not taking part in E3 (which i think is a big mistake but anyway) it does not mean the PS5 is not underway or that it is not going to be announced at all. Perhaps the way games are going (more multiplats than ever and fewer exclusives) it kind of makes sense for companies to have their own event, to avoid bickering on social media of who has a bigger ding dong at the end of the conferences.

This way each company can make a full day or more out of an event that will highlight the new console even more. I do not see any problem with this. Still think missing E3 is dumb but you do not know their plans.
I never said it wasn't going to be announced at all. I simply meant it wasn't going to be announced at that E3.

Are they out of their minds?
I mean, their conference this year was utterly pathetic. Ushering the media into a room to watch a guy play on a banjo for 15 minutes, just for a "cool" transition into TLOU2 gameplay, only to take a 20 minute break to cart the media/crowd off to ANOTHER location for the "real" conference, with only middling games even showcased.

Well, it may be a sign that the thing has declined. And since nowadays you can watch videos online and get demons also online the E3 is losing relevance.

Is not like Sony can't promote themselves.

I'm really excited to see what they're going to announce whenever they go back into presenting new stuff. To be fairly honest, i wouldn't be surprised if this were them preparing for the PS5 release. It just sseems they want to gain time to get everything ready to show to the public, it's fair. Wonder what kind of hardware they pulled off this time, especially having in mind the fact they probably want something more powerful than the XBOX One X. Maybe they're planning native 4K at 60fps + some real good HDR? or something more than that? It seems they've been working on it for a crazy amount of time...

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

But also, they've been neglecting the PS4 way too much imo. Maybe i'm just way too selective, but there has been super few good titles coming to the PS4, and anything Sony has announced officially has been pretty much ZZZZZ, with some exceptions here and there. I just hope they're preparing for something actually worth it.

Disappointing! I was considering going to E3 this year but won't bother now. It seems E3 is going the way of the dodo.

A shame really, E3 is one of my favourite times of the year watching the top dogs battle it out against each other. I'm sure Sony will have other plans like Nintendo's direct but it's just not the same

It's so deep in here, some of you can't even see the floor anymore....

I posted this elsewhere and seems more than appropriate here.

If there was only someplace else for Sony & other companies to showcase their games....:wacko:

Oh right!

PSX
PAX West/East/AUS/South/Mars/Etc
Gamescom
Gamerawards
San Deigo Comic Con
TGS
GDC
SXSW
Paris Games Week

Where oh where will they be able to talk about their games now???:P

Some of you like creating drama just for the sake of it...they're gonna be just fine, E3 will be as boring as it usually is, and no one will have to be declared winner of the conference since one less player will be there to "compete". If you've forgotten it's about the games then it's time to rethink things. Seriously.

C'est la vie.

Things move on and change.
