EA announces two 'Command & Conquer' remasters in 4K

After teasing about bringing the franchise back to PC, EA has announced in a blog post that it will be bringing back not one but two classic Command & Conquer titles. Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert will be remastered in 4K. The company also mentioned that the classic expansion packs - Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath - will also be part of the remaster, bundled with the base games into one remastered collection - without microtransactions.

To bring the RTS series back, EA will be partnering with Petroglyph Games, which includes many of the original developers from Westwood Studios, and "some of the most influential members of the original Command & Conquer development team from 1995".

Lemon Sky Studios has also been added to the mix to give the titles the 4K treatment.

While the news has been made public, EA creative director Jim Vessella mentions in the blog post that development has not yet started.

but will it have mod support?

also, its obvious this is because they saw the money in the starcraft remaster, lets not act like they are doing this out of the goodness of their hearts.

One has to wonder whether this is in response to the backlash surrounding the Command & Conquer mobile game from fans who wanted a brand new C&C. Nothing inherently wrong with companies announcing mobile games of popular series, but if Diablo is anything to go by, it's good to say that there's something fans want ready on the horizon to temper the heat.

They remaster because they killed the command & conquer series with 4. They aint got the talent to make a new old school one. Its not hard to make an old school c&c. The remake will probably remove lan play.

They could never make a command and conquer as good as red alert 2 yuris revenge again. played that game since for over 12 years online. I enjoined cc1 ra1/2, tib sun and cc3.
RA3 sucked cc4 was ASS.

I will never have a love for RTS as deep and as thrurough as RA2/YR. I actually DON'T want to see what they would do with a remaster because I'd just rather play the original. Tiberian anything can eat ducks.

Did you ever play yuris revenge online? If so i was captainn2 on their. i was normally in games with custom maps. I used to piss off players off by chroning my buildings when air attacks were comming lol. and remember the france cannon walkers? i used to make nuke reactors up to their base and explode them lol.

Not a lot but some. I usually only played on a custom map called "land of magic". If you have any way of getting it, try it out. There's an actual tech tree you can build starting with a burned up deralict tank and eventually gives you a 3 legged Eifel tower which grants nuke strikes every 6 minutes. I think money was different too lol

Glad to see they're doing something with the series besides just p2w mobile games.

P.S. Anyone who cares about this should check out Dawn of the Tiberian Age.

I hate so bad that we're at EA's mercy for this. I loved C&C when I was a kid! Lots of fond memories playing Tiberian Sun with my brother. Here's hoping they at least do some justice for this series, considering how bad they've fucked it over.

EA is going to do something to EA this up. There's going to be some catch like paid mods or lootboxes. I know they said there's going to be no microtransactions, but EA will perform some form of mental gymnastics to justify something stupid like lootboxes. This is EA we are talking about.

Jeez, guys...I get it: you all hate EA and you all hate remasters. But can you please hold your pitchforks for a second? These aren't half-assed "remasters" from half a gaming generation ago, done by a summer intern and someone throwing in an extra skin here and there. C&C and red alert were games when windows 98 was standard and the average computer had a 15" 4:3 screen. I can think of hardly any franchise that would deserve a remaster than these.

To bring the RTS series back, EA will be partnering with Petroglyph Games, which includes many of the original developers from Westwood Studios, and "some of the most influential members of the original Command & Conquer development team from 1995".
Yyyyyyyeeeeeaaahhhh. Okay: I admit: I am mildly optimistic about this. On paper, this could be the ideal situation: EA provides the license they bought and let the original creators remake their masterpieces for the current generation. The problem is that I expect the result will be "origin only" (oh, and windows only, because that's what AAA studios do). Which really begs the question: why would we want to play this over OpenRA?

Also...the elephant in the room:
What? Why not remaster Red Alert 2?
This! With much respect to these titles, Red Alert 2 was the pinnacle of the series. In fact, I've played through the campaign again last year. And lemme tell you: it's every bit as fun as it was, but it was clearly a game from a different generation (I really had to suppress the urge to zoom out with my mouse wheel :P ).

Put this baby in Petroglyph's hands and it's an instant-buy for me. Even if I have to install origin to play it.
