NEWS UPDATED: Dec. 20th / TX and their [WAIN] friends are back with another update to the cartridge dumper app!
SXD_103.jpg

Another hard-working day at TX headquarters and yet another release, this time around just small update to their SX Dumper app. :)
Another day, another update from your Xecuter team.

This time it is SX Dumper which goes to v1.0.3 with a new function to dump cert only.

1.0.3 Change log:
  • Add option for cert only dumping output:
    Selected folder/certificates/gamename [cert crc32].cert
  • Various stability fixes and lib upgrades
(As usual, please remember all our latest releases & apps, can be found on our sx.xecuter.com portal website)
(What follows below is the last few announcements regarding the SX Dumper from TX, click the 'Spoiler' to see the previous details in full.)
SX Dumper continues to get feedback from our SX OS users!

And [WAIN] continues to return the thanks for all the feedback we received, by releasing another small update.

Enjoy!

1.0.2
  • fixed splitting no longer hang on after 2gb.
SX Dumper was a hit as soon as it was published and thanks to all the feedback we received, [WAIN] was still on fire and updated it right away.

Enjoy! :)

1.0.1
  • Keep console awake no more button presses while dumping!
  • fixed bug with detecting cart too quickly.
  • folder selection ("Root" ,"/sxos/xci/" , "/sxos/games/")
  • UI adjustments for left stick navigation instead of left up down right for options
  • Changed to Titleid.xci for Japanese,Chinese,Korean,Taiwanese
Today, we are back with the help of our friends [WAIN] who developed a very useful app for SX OS: the SX Dumper!

As the name indicates it, this app will allow you to dump an original game to your microSD card or USB HDD and then play directly with your backup without the need of the original game anymore. This version 1.0.0 is already packed with features, and we are already working on the next update(s) to bring you an even smoother experience.

SX Dumper v1.0.0
  • Dump to .XCI
  • Automatically filenaming (full gamename.xci)
  • USB HDD & microSD Card support
  • Trimmed dumping (removed unused space from backup)
  • Certificate wiping
  • Splitting files for FAT32 filesystem
  • CRC checking dumped image

I love TX, I'm glad they are working this hard on the switch scene

TX delivered the great stuff (piracy) first
Free piracy is possible because of SX OS' sigpatches so even if you don't use SX OS you should thank TX
The free CFWs dont use SX’s sigpatches though...

Also I don’t consider piracy to be “a great thing” :P

If you want to go that way, SX OS exists thanks to Atmosphere. Same goes for every other CFW out there. All are to some degree based on Atmo.
And if what @ZachyCatGames says is true, there is still a difference in coming up with own solution, but later and using already working solution.

Yes they do
Rei managed to steal the nsp sigpatches from SX OS, ask her

Since I am no longer using SX OS, I don't have any real oppinion on this, but do you guys really want one giant "bloated" piece of software that does everything instead of a modular approach that allows you to mix and match what you want to do with it/what features it includes?

I don't see what's wrong with keeping this a separate app. If you want to use it, you can launch it from SX OSes homebrew menu. If you don't want to use it, you wont have to put it onto your SD and have it take up space. Or you can use another cart dumper of your choice.

Hi,
In general you are right... but SX OS offers the option to play XCI Backups, then I think a option to create XCI files would be great - as permanent feature. :)
That's all.

well, it is a permanent feature, isn't it? You can run this application from the SX OS menu just like you can every other.
What benefit would it have if it was it's own entry in the rommenu over being an entry in the SX OS app launcher?

Same reason why it's more comfy to have nand dumping/restoring on the menu
Having everything in the same place is good, that's why people buy SX OS, because you have to copy paste a single file and you're done

You have to extract from a single file on any other CFW and you are done.

how does this fit into the chain of argument here? It's not about SX OS vs free CFW, it's about SX Dumper being a hombrew tool that you launch from the "homebrew" tab vs forced into the boot.dat so it can have it's own "dump game" tab.

You can get wain packed in SDFiles, so you need to extract from 1 file to sd.
It is not an argument for their 1 menu has all stuff.

Actually, they outright say its WAIN in the announcement.

Which would make this a copyright violation, since WAIN is a leaked tool from the ReSwitched discord and as a result the copyright still lies with the ReSwitched team or the individual creator of WAIN.

Time to whip out the rules on warez I suppose...

Terms & Rules said:
"Warez" is an internet term used to describe copyrighted software, game, film, music and data piracy.

- Members may NOT ASK and MAY NOT PROVIDE INFORMATION or LINKS for and to places that provide ROM, WAD, ISO and CIA files in absolutely any way on our forum including PM (private message).

These rules also apply to other "warez" too, not just ROM, WAD, ISO & CIA files; this includes (but is NOT limited to) - licensed and copyrighted software, code, movies, music, video games, magazines, comics, e-books, television shows, illegal torrents, etc. These rules also account for "keygens" and "cracks" including how to obtain, apply or install them.

(emphasis in the last paragraph mine)

There's a link to their miniportal in the OP and maxconsole also openly links to TX's website.

Therefore making SX Dumper a rules violation of this site.

You can get wain packed in SDFiles, so you need to extract from 1 file to sd.
It is not an argument for their 1 menu has all stuff.
Again, what do SDfiles have to do with either mine or isoisoiso's discussion?

It's not about sxos vs free, it's about keeping the cart dumper bundled as a separate file vs integrating it into boot.dat

Wait, NAND dumping and restoring is in SX OSes rommenu? That doesn't really make sense, shouldn't that be part of the RCM payload?

Either way: my argument is that ~85% (guestimate by me) of people that use SX OS really wouldn't use this feature and those that do, would do so only on very few ocassions. The majority of people will get their games elswhere. It strikes me as odd to ask for this feature to be added for everone by baking it into the rommenu, possibly causing more clutter (when going about future "features" in the same manner) because a smaller percentage of users might use it on selected ocasions and those users are too "lazy" to copy over a second file to their SD card.

I guess it's just a different mentality. I still fail to see how not having to copy over another file to your device is any real benefit but in the end, it's none of my business. TX has to decide if they want to risk cluttering their rommenu, not me.

I just want to hold my OS clean, I don't like many NPS files. It's just my personal wish to integrate this app into SX OS.

By the way.. at the moment I'm using Gcdumptool - which app is better?
